OH SHIT there’s a spider out there that builds bigger spiders

Quote:
A spider that builds elaborate, fake spiders and hangs them in its web has been discovered in the Peruvian Amazon.

Believed to be a new species in the genus Cyclosa, the arachnid crafts the larger spider from leaves, debris and dead insects. Though Cyclosa includes other sculpting arachnids, this is the first one observed to build a replica with multiple, spidery legs.

Scientists suspect the fake spiders serve as decoys, part of a defense mechanism meant to confuse or distract predators. “It seems like a really well evolved and very specialized behavior,” said Phil Torres, who described the find in a blog entry written for Rainforest Expeditions. Torres, a biologist and science educator, divides his time between Southern California and Peru, where he’s involved in research and education projects.

“Considering that spiders can already make really impressive geometric designs with their webs, it’s no surprise that they can take that leap to make an impressive design with debris and other things,” he said.

Snowed in today so I made a montage/compilation on some of the inspirational stories that have happened in the past year. It's not the best of quality -- go easy on the flaming

Does anyone know if the Five Guys Burger in Port Coquitlam is open yet?

I saw it on the way home last night - had to go home via Lougheed Hwy because Port Mann was closed.

I heard they are opening one up in downtown Vancouver soon.

So, I already have a Roam Mobility phone for use on those short trips south of the border. I would like to get a "Pay As You Go" phone in the US. Which one should I go for? And, is it easy to get one, like right there and then - sign up and use without wait. Would be nice if it also had roam free.

Any help would be great. I just want to be able to communicate with other family members while in a mall, for example.

Tomorrow, the shortest day of the year. After that, the days get longer........ thank god! I'm looking out the window right now and it's almost 8 am and it's freaking dark!

Go to work in the dark and go home in the dark, damn it!

Anyone been to the states on Dec 26th? Thinking of going down there with friends on that date. I know they don't have boxing day but I don't know if the line up at the border will be particularly long on that day for some random reason.

U didn't read my post. I asked how the line up is. I know there's no boxing day and we aren't going there for shopping. I'm simply asking if anyone had experience going there on 26th.

Hmm, if you don't mind Richmond, they have E-Spot which is just off No.3 road. Theres plenty of tables and rates are $10/hr iirc.

For anyone with Telus optik tv (i have no idea if this for any other Telus tv service)

Oasis 643 HD, HIFI 644 HD, Radx 645 HD and EQhd 646 HD are on a free trial right now through December I think. They are pretty decent, after watching a bit of the Oasis channel I will probably sign up for it when the trials over.

just a warning for anyone who isn't into or ok with this stuff the Oasis channel had some pretty graphic stuff on it when they had to surgeries on animals and when they feed and watch the animals hunt
