Sun Media cutting 360 jobs and closing 11 papers as focus shifts to digital - Winnipeg Free Press

Sun Media is closing a bunch of papers in Central Can and Quebec, including some of its 24 Hours newspapers.

Vancouver/Toronto and Montreal stay with 24 hours because of transit.

Interesting times. I like newspapers, and i think people will lose out for not having a good quality daily in print paper, which seems to be the direction that print media is going.

Blogs, in my opinion, are not the same.

Scrap truck question..

I know for a total car, most scrap guys will give you 200 bucks.
What's a truck's worth?

I know some are going to say, cut the cat out and sell it on Mitchell island, but where?

Just trying to keep my options open. Thanks

$400-600ish.

AABC Recycling takes cars.

I would only scrap a very mechanically unsound truck, an inexpensive work (read:beater) truck still should sell quick on CL.

godwin 07-17-2013 12:33 AM

$200 is the cash price.. however there are other options

BC SCRAP-IT Program

should have been clearer, meant scrap in value.
All cars these days that you are going to bring into the scrap it program, you might as well save the hassle and just scrap it at a yard for metal content.
Both = 200. Heck, you may just get more with the Scrap guy.

Thanks Mindbomber, that's roughly what I thought too. I wonder whats the profit margins these guys pull in.

VANCOUVER -- Language barriers may be putting the sexual health of some new Canadians at risk.
That's the concern raised in a study by University of British Columbia School of Nursing researcher Yuko Homma.
She says the majority of East Asian-Canadian adolescents have not had sex, but among those who are sexually active, one in four admit to using alcohol or drugs before a relationship, while nearly half of girls did not use a condom.

Homma says about half of the study group were new to Canada and spoke a language other than English at home.
She says she wonders if they may be missing key information in sexual health classes because of language barriers.
The study was published recently in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality.

how is this even news? Are they surprised that most Asian adolescents aren't sexually active?

For all the electrical pros out there:

Got a new dashcam that runs on USB 5V and i want to hardwire it into the fusebox. But as everyone knows cars put out 12V from the battery.

What i've done is taken a USB to Mini USB cable and chopped off the USB end.

I attached the add-a-fuse to the power input of a 7805 12v-5v resistor thingy

Got a wire to come out of the middle leg for ground

Then attached the red (positive) end of the usb to the last leg and heatshrinked everything together

Any clue if this is going to work? Everything has come out of google but some people say the resistor is going to heat up and set the car on fire.

Why not use the power cord it came with and chop off the cigarette lighter part. Or better yet, get a plug from Crappy Tire or Lordco and hard wire it from that.

The system will include a network of bicycle stations aimed at encouraging short trips. Users will be able to rent bikes at one location and return to another as part of a 24-hour system. Eventually, the program is slated to include 1,500 bikes at 125 stations, in an area that will include downtown and stretch to 12th Avenue, between Main and Arbutus streets.
....
The proposed fees for using the public bike-share program are $95 for an annual membership, $20 for a weekly membership, and $5 for a daily membership. Under all memberships, the first 30 minutes will be free, and cyclists will pay $1.50 to $2 for between 30 to 60 minutes of use, and $5 to $6 for 60 to 90 minutes.

Why not buy one of these from nightmarket, take it apart and wire it straight to 12V?

How about buying both items and plug them together?

mos_skeeto 07-18-2013 09:08 AM

I ponder this every work day so I have to ask...

At Waterfront station sometimes I catch a ride on the arriving train so I get a seat. It does a u-turn and comes back onto the platform on the other side.

About half the time the arriving train says NOT IN SERVICE but it always goes back to the other platform. Being the rebel I am I always jump on.

Why does it say NOT IN SERVICE when it is and is there a chance it will take itself out of service locking me in?

Razor Ramon HG 07-18-2013 09:16 AM

If it takes itself out of service, I'm pretty sure a transit supervisor will let you know or escort you. I wouldn't care much about it unless you're taking one of the later trains at night.

I'm not sure if this really changes much, but the actual title is "I Am A God", a little different.
