Just random thoughts for those whom love Vancouver...
I moved (back) to Edmonton Feb of this year to help a friend with his company, he was struggling to find the "right" people and I decided to help him out for a year.
Now having been here for nearly 7 months, I can honestly say that Vancouvers reputation as one of the best cities in the world is certainly well deserved. - Not that I didn't already feel that way before I moved :s
Edmonton is a cultural shithole, there is nothing here, traffic is bad on the weekends because there is nothing to do except drive and shop... people here are, for the most part, driven entirely be materialistic desires.
The weather sucks, sure the statistics tell you that Edmonton would get a lot more sun and a lot less rain then Van... and that is true for the winter, the summer here is much worse, not a single day has passed where the sky was completely free of clouds. Every weekend my plans to enjoy a sunny weekend at Sylvan Lake fall apart due to the weather, this weekend will be second one of the "summer" where I might actually be able to enjoy the water... and the water is filthy and full of silt btw, thank god we have access to a boat as the beach is completely packed with douchebags.
Douchebags, for every hipster in Van there is like 50 douchebags in Edmonton, that's what you get when you have a labor pool that pays unskilled morons an abnormally high wage... all the douchebags from all over Canada moved to Edmonton so they could buy the complete Ed Hardy collection.
Cost of living, sure there is no PST, but housing does not seem any cheaper to me, utilities are worse, and it even seems as though auto insurance is about the same :s Probably because the drivers here are absolutely terrible, I see at least one accident every single day, and I live like 5km from the office!
Thank god for the friends I had in Edmonton from when I lived there before, I can't imagine how much this city sucks for people that are completely new to the city. Lots of really good people here... sadly they are outnumbered by the assholes.
Van is beautiful, clean, the people care about the city, people seem to be more educated, being a douchebag actually means something (it means you're a douchebag), you don't need to drive everywhere, the food is amazing, services are better in all industries, the beach is great, the mountains are money in the winter, the air smells delicious, everybody drives 20-30km/h over the speed limit all the time, nature is everywhere, potholes are virtually non existent, and a million other little random reasons why Van is epic.
So ^$&# you Edmonto!, And Van, I will see you again early 2014. I will move DT and hug every single gay person I can get my hands on, compliment hipsters on their "super original" taste in clothing and music, and always yield for C-lai drivers with the sun shades.
5 Months to go...

I had to help out the company and work in Edmonton for a couple weeks.
Flew the wife out for the 2nd week so she could check out West Edmonton Mall, enjoy free accommodations in a nice room... She flew Monday and had return scheduled for Friday.
She barely made it to Wednesday and we changed her flight.
Edmonton SUCKS. Calgary isn't so bad..

I've seen many people with Irish plates under their BC plates
I presume they are not imported as they usually are not exotics.. so why? Is it just Irish pride or what?
Couldn't find an example but this is the Irish plate distinguished by the IRL on the left:

Holy crap, if I could thank you a thousand times I would.
While I don't actually live in Alberta, apparently I've moved to the Albertan's favourite holiday spot in the Interior. I literally see more vehicles with Alberta plates while driving around now than I do BC plates. Without any type of hyperbole, I'd say 95% of the Albertan vehicles are jacked up pickup trucks with some douchebag behind the wheel. These guys will do nothing buy sit on your ass, tailgating you even when you yourself is stuck behind a large lineup of traffic. The other 5% are either seniors or families and, bloody hell, it's like they're afraid of the mountain roads around here. Speed limit is 100? Okay, let's do 70 on the straights and then drop down to 40 as soon as you spot a corner that has any sort of drop off on the side. Oh, but then as soon as a passing lane opens up, they stay in the left lane and speed up as fast as they can until it drops back into single lane... where they proceed to slow the fuck down again.
I usually enjoy driving the Coquihalla and don't have an issue with Hwy97, but these idiots are all ruining the zen state I've been in since I moved up here.
Oh, three days running, I've driven from my place to Vernon and back (which is about a 20 minute drive) and every day I've seen a pretty bad accident usually involving at least one vehicle missing the entire front end of its car. Anyone care to wager what province the plate on the back reads? lol
so i have 171 empty cans of coors light and the "Return-It" depot here won't take a single one because i bought them all from the states. i even asked if they would just recycle it for me for free and they said no, they would just garbage it all so i just took it all back home.
what do i do with em?

Regional Recycling locations will purchase scrap metal, as well as the ordinary Return-It services. The US origin of the cans may prevent them from being refunded as bottle returns, but not from being sold as scrap. They have locations in Burnaby, Richmond, and Vancouver, as well as other areas.
