Hong Kong: US bomb from World War Two defused by police

Hong Kong police have successfully defused a 2,000 pound (900kg) bomb from World War Two, described as the biggest wartime bomb to be found in the city.

More than 2,200 people were evacuated when the bomb was found in a construction site in the city's Happy Valley district on Thursday afternoon.

The AN-M66 bomb contained 1,000 pounds (450kg) of explosives.

The device is believed to have been dropped by the US Navy during WW2, when Japan occupied the then British colony.

Senior bomb disposal officer Jimmy Yuen said the disposal had taken a long time because of "technical problems when drilling holes into the bomb and because of the large amount of explosives inside it".

"Because the explosive inside was very sensitive, we had to cut the shell in a low-temperature environment, so the process took longer than expected," he added.

Where can I go to get art appraised and possibly sold, locally?

Specifically, watercolour paintings of Westcoast First Nations images.

Thanks.

I would suggest contacting a gallery specializing in the genre.

Do you know who is the artist?

The description sounds similar to Sue Coleman's work.

fliptuner 02-08-2014 01:44 PM

It is, yes. Limited edition and numbered.

Damn.....you're good.

It's on this list (Orca) but I doubt it's sell for anything close:
SUE COLEMAN

Coleman's value estimates are definitely not realistic. The size and number of the editions she runs and her strictly aesthetic style leaves her outside the realm of fine art. This essentially negates the possibility of her work appreciating in value. I hesitate to say it, but a professional appraisal could very likely cost more than the prints value. You could look into which galleries she has a relationship and ask for an opinion, though.

Take a look on Craigslist and Ebay, I would suggest scale (ie. 5"x7") may be more important than year of printing for her work.

I looked up the same ones and yes, the discrepancy in her valuation and actual selling prices is huge.

Although, mine is a bit larger at 16"x21" not including the mat/frame.

MindBomber 02-08-2014 03:26 PM

That will definitely raise the value. Best of luck with selling it, Flip! :)
