Has anyone at any point used this Ikea desk known as the Frederik?
I just bought one used and I'm trying to figure out how much weight it can support. I have to assume the base alone could support 100lbs?
Thanks

Totally forgot it's this time of year............ Eastside Culture Crawl | A visual arts, design and crafts festival.
I was on my way to Fujiya this afternoon when I noticed way more traffic than usual around the area. Every year this event gets bigger and bigger. It's on for four days.
Also, while I was at JN & Z Deli, I saw this petition on the table with lots of signatures. It was one I'd sign ASAP and 1001 times, if I could. It's to stop the fucking bike lanes the city wants to put in on Commercial Drive!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck, you, Moonbeam! I can't even vote your sorry ass out of office, 'cause I live in Burnaby. Again, a big FUCK YOU!!!!

If you buy a used car, does the luxury car tax apply if it's over 55K? Private or Dealer does it matter?
Thank you

goodbye, Aurora Quote:
It’s with immense sadness that we share the passing of beluga whale Aurora. As detailed last week and through daily updates on her condition, Aurora had been sick for the past two weeks, showing symptoms of abdominal cramping, loss of appetite and lethargy. Our marine mammal care team, under the guidance of head veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena, and a host of veterinary specialists, pathologists, marine biologists and other experts from around-the-world, had been working relentlessly to provide treatment, investigate her symptoms, adjust her medication, and ensure she had therapeutic care.
After a determined around-the-clock effort by animal care staff and the veterinary team, she slipped away this evening surrounded by the people who loved her, some whom have cared for her since she first arrived in 1990. To our team, Aurora was a part of our family and her loss is absolutely heartbreaking. The marine mammal care team working night and day to care for her are our true heroes, even if we lost the battle.
We will continue to explore the cause or causes of Qila and Aurora’s sudden illness — a necropsy will be conducted by Dr. Haulena and he will continue to consult with other specialists across the globe as we continue the investigation.
Named after the aurora borealis, or northern lights, Aurora immediately won hearts and inspired generations of visitors, employees and volunteers with her curious nature and gentle personality. Along with the other belugas at the Aquarium, including her daughter Qila, Aurora taught millions about her incredible species and its rapidly changing ecosystem in the wild. The whales have contributed to studies on their physiology, hearing and acoustic abilities; provided baseline data for studies in the wild; and helped scientists discover unique vocalizations between beluga whale mothers and calves, called contact calls. This groundbreaking research began at Vancouver Aquarium in 2002; beluga whales Aurora and Qila contributed to those early studies.
The past two weeks have been extremely difficult and today’s loss has left a hole in our hearts. On behalf of our team of 1,500 staff and volunteers, we’d like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with warm messages of support and offers of help. You’ve shared countless stories of how Aurora and Qila have impacted you and your family and we’re grateful to everyone who has shared those connections with us. Please continue doing so.

Poor Aurora, may she finally, finally rest in peace. Also, RIP to her daughter Qila and her calf, Tiqa.
Too many tragedies. Born in captivity, studied and probed. Put out to amuse................. IMHO, it's about time it ended. These magnificent creatures do not deserve this fate. Yes, they die in the wild, but at least they die in freedom.
The story goes on to say, "We learned so much about their species." How they communicate and all that............ one day, we will be the ones captured and put on display for some other species' amusement and curiosity.
Earlier story about Qila's passing............. Vancouver Aquarium?s resident beluga whale Qila dies - BC | Globalnews.ca Quote:
“Qila’s death is extremely sad, but the fact she spent 21 years in a concrete pool instead of being free in the open ocean is tragic,” said Vancouver Humane Society spokesperson Peter Fricker in a release.
Fricker said whales and dolphins suffer in captivity, as they are highly intelligent and social animals, which have evolved to thrive in a specific environment that cannot be replicated in captivity.

Imo it's easy for people like us to say ban animals like this in captivity when we are so privileged to basically step out our door and see them in their natural habitat
However, imo Zoo's and places like sea world, have a place in this world. Without them animals would likely never get the exposure required for people to actually care enough about them to make a difference. It's one thing to see them on TV and in pictures, it's somthing entirely different to see them in person.
I've made this case before but the amount of orcas in captivity throughout the world is somthing like 60, if having those 60 on for display for the human race enables one person, or a small hand full of people to care enough to do somthing to save 5/10/20/100 was it not worth it?
I think people in general will care a lot less about animals and especially endangered ones when they can no longer see them or at the very least, hear about them in the news and media

I was under the impression the larger animals kept in the Vancouver Aquarium were only ones that had been rescued and were unable to be returned to the wild. "Dying in freedom" sounds great and all, but if they would die within a short time of being released it's not so wonderful.

If they weren't there in the first place, there would be no issue.
Not here to argue the point, because it's well, pointless.
BTW, I'm no tree hugger or activist of any kind, but I do find myself becoming one.........need to work more on cars like I used to or have a Snickers, lol.

If planned properly the abductor (in this case the mother) could have been over the border and at the south end of Oregon state by the time the Amber Alert went out.

I think it's because they weren't too sure if they should proceed or not. It was the mother who abducted the child. Usually they don't issue an Amber Alert unless it is deemed important enough - as in immediate danger. They eventually issued it because the mother was a bit unstable and had no coping skills or something like that. Plus, they probably believed they could be found in a timely matter. If all abductions were placed on Amber Alert, we would be hearing that eerie sound way too often.

If they were rescuing injured animals and caring for animals that couldn't survive in the wild any longer, sure, charge people admission to pay for costs. But Seaworld is a listed company on the stock exchange out to make a profit purely through the exploitation of these animals... that's wrong.
watch the documentary BlackFish, it'll likely change your views on Seaworld
also, RIP Fidel

Was looking for a TV, specifically had my eye on the Samsung 65" 4K UHD HDR LED Smart TV (UN65KS9000FXZC) which was on sale for $3499.99 at Best Buy yesterday... Now its at $3999.99 and its also sold out. Anyone know anywhere else I can find this for a good price and/or recommend something similiar or even better?

Last year, Black Friday had WAAAAAAAYYY better deals on electronics than Boxing Day. Was actually quite sad.
I know because I chose to wait until boxing day and paid around $400 more for my electronics. (Totalling around 2.5k)
