Can anyone here suggest a rental property that isn't dirty and sketch?

He's looking at Vancouver / Burnaby / New West / Coquitlam / Port Moody. He wants to be close to the Skytrain. He's leaning more toward Coquitlam / Pomo

His budget is $1200 / month. He's overwhelmed by the amount of listings and conflicting reviews.

Thanks

I was part of the horde of people looking recently.

60 year old apartments with windows as thick as some cardboard, with a 3 foot refrigerator with a fucking solid-wood door handle is going for $1100 in new-west. And there are 30 applicants, and they are all decent people.

It's an absolute shitshow.

I got my place through word of mouth and asking pretty much all my acquaintances.

Either that or scour craigslist every spare minute and show up with a deposit cheque in hand.

Yeah, I thought I'd give the classifieds a peruse while at work right now and holy shit, I can't even see straight after only 5 minutes of browsing. Some places LOOK good in photos but then I read reviews and they're like 'avoid if you don't want to get friendly with bed bugs' etc.

He's sent out some requests for viewing but I never realized how many applicants there can already be.

Just....no

So much win!!!

Children's Hospital - Anything to do with them, I'm all for it. Saved my daughter's life when she was a baby. I will never forget the care they gave her. It truly was a miracle she survived. It did help that I drove like a freaking maniac to get her to that hospital in record time. No ambulance could have arrived and taken her there that quickly.

I just moved after a 3 month search. I haven't moved in a few years and that left me completely unprepared for the chaos that's become of the market. I offered $1500 a month and a full months deposit though it was posted for $1400 a month; and I was prepared to sign for Aug. 1 on July 28, which means I'm paying rent for two apartments this month. Other prospective tenants made offers comparable to mine but they felt i would be the best tenant. It's a decent place but not a show stopper and under 500 sq/ft. Fucking nuts.

Made a post to rent my parents basement for $1200 890sq a few months back. I do not think it was worth that much as the place needs reno (I was thinking along the lines or $900). My god I would get like 10+ emails everyday looking to rent and want to come for viewing.

Some people were very decent that I though would never rent a basement suite. Things change and my parents are no longer rent yet I still get 2 to 5 e-mails a day asking to view the place even though the ad was posted in mid-July. I guess there isn't much rental property out there......

Good ones are snatched up by now.
New listings come up last week/first week of the months, since tenants give move out notice before month end.
If must move on sept 1st, lower expectations
Old low rise aprtment short bus ride to skytrain should be available in that price range. Forget about condos

If any of you are in the Seattle, Bellevue or Beaverton, Washington area August 16th - 22nd, Uwajimaya is having their Hawaiian Week. I go as often as I can. Being of Hawaiian/Polynesian descent with a mix of Japanese/Okinawan, I really enjoy the event. The dancing, the music, and especially, the spam musubi, lol. The bonus this year, is the Total Eclipse Event in Oregon, which happens on the same weekend(ish).

BTW, if you are thinking of staying in a hotel anywhere near the path of the total eclipse, good luck, as they are at an all time high - from 300 USD upwards to $1,000.00 a night. Actually, most reputable hotels are unavailable and have been booked a year or more in advance.

Seattle area is fine. Anyway, happy trails.............

Is there a place I can donate old textbooks to? They are multiple-editions old, so its too late to recoup any significant amount at this point. Looking to donate them somewhere they could be used or else I'd just have to recycle them. Like 25+ in total.

DragonChi 08-12-2017 09:20 AM

If they are for university courses, you could post them up on post secondary buy and sell groups on Facebook.

You can drop them off at a book bin. That's what I did with my old text books. I go to the Still Creek Recycling Depot near the Costco Willingdon location. On the east end of the property are bins for used clothing and books. Right next to the used cooking oil and engine oil section. The place is very clean and is paved now, plus very easy to access.

^ Is it called the Burnaby Eco-Centre?

Yes they are for university courses, I took a quick sample of the textbooks and most are 2 editions old. And I don't think it will be worth my time to sell them.

MG1 08-12-2017 10:06 AM

Yes.

DragonChi 08-12-2017 10:09 AM

To a starving student, even a older edition book is better than spending 100-200 dollars on a new one. I remember it would be like 500-800 dollars on a new textbook every semester.

UBC bookstore might buy your book back.

UBC Bookstore - http://www.bookstore.ubc.ca/

I tried looking up some of my old books, they didn't have them listed.

Recycling would be the easiest option.

Thanks, I checked a handful of books that were the most recent year and none are listed. Most are at least 5 years old as well.

I will check out the place MG1 suggested. Other than that, is there another place to donate it to?

DragonChi 08-12-2017 10:50 AM

Maybe a club or student association within the books field or major. I'd imagine they'd appreciate the donation.

MG1 08-12-2017 06:20 PM

This is why I'm leaving well ahead of the event..............

Corona and the diamond ring. Wasn't on my bucket list, but is now.

If and when it rains tonight, the roads may become very slick. It's been quite a while since crap on roads have been washed away. With the fallout from the forest fires, who knows what effect it will have. I don't give a shit about some people on RS, but everyone has family and friends out there who care, so drive with extra care and attention-some fatherly advice, Gulolol. Pass it along to others.

Does any one know of good deals for a ps4 right now? Perhaps employee discount and we can throw in some beer money for your help?

Nope, since it's tied to your gamertag, it'll just swap over when you sign in.

Anyone here bank with Vancity?

I woke up this morning and wanted to check something but my account has been locked out. My boss is in front of me and his account has been locked out as well. We tried calling customer support but the best it said was they can give me a call back tomorrow at 10:00am..... Is it just us having this problem or does anyone else have it?
