got a weird question. Every morning driving over the Second Narrows towards Bby/Van, as about when i'm going over the crest of the bridge, i smell something like burning oil, like as if you have an oil leak and it's burning off the exhaust, not burning oil as in combusting. (I know it's not my car cuz i've already fixed my oil leaks lol)and the smell occurs in other vehicles i drive, but only in the morning. Anyone know what the cause is? The railroad tracks under the bridge? Just curious

Is anyone having issues with Shaw cable where described video is on? I can't turn it off entirely and have to do it for each channel. Once I leave that channel and come back to it, described video is back on. I tried resetting everything to default settings and it still does it.

Good news!!!!! The new Bosa Foods on Victoria Drive is now open. Totally new building. I think underground parking, too. I just drove by, but had no time to go in.

Anyone buy a Japanese spec appliance to use in North America? Any problems long term with them? I know you have to use a converter but was wondering if running it through the transformer (and subsequently into the wall) affects the unit's performance?

Thanks

underscore 10-11-2017 09:23 PM

With a transformer you should be fine, I built a kotatsu 2 years ago and we've been running it without one without any problems. The main thing to watch is the wattage, since the voltage is lower the current will go up by 20% (1.2x) to produce the same output. To be safer I got a higher wattage heater but keep it on the lower setting to keep the current below the maximum the components are rated for.

New Parq casino ducking suckssssss

Edgewater was a dump but I liked the layout and vibe of edgewater way more.

MG1 10-12-2017 08:42 PM

I've been there twice now and I like it....... free EV charging (8 stations) and free parking (bring ticket to guest services). I'm the opposite. I thought Edgewater was a little ghetto. It's probably because Parq's new.

TOS'd 10-12-2017 08:54 PM

Edgewater was super ghetto, haven't checked out Parq yet.

MG1 10-14-2017 11:45 AM

Just left the new Bosa Foods on Victoria Drive. Underground parking is small, but had two EV charging stations. Win! Lots of freebies today. The place was jam packed. Got my weekly supply of capocollo and other sliced deli meats.

Is 45 min enough time to get to Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown by 8:05 AM tomorrow morning, from Richmond Costco?

Google Maps says anywhere between 30-45 min.

I'm just really worried about rush hour, and I'm not sure how much time I should allocate to be on the safe side.

murd0c 10-18-2017 10:21 AM

give an hour to an hour and a half to be safe it its that important.

Presto 10-18-2017 10:22 AM

Leave earlier if being on-time is critical. It's better to be stupid early than to even be 1 min late.

MG1 10-18-2017 11:03 AM

Like everybody else has said, leave as early as possible. If you get there early, go somewhere for coffee and thank your lucky stars there wasn't a huge accident that delayed you.

With weather like this and the endless parade of shitty drivers in the GVRD, you know an accident or three is going to happen. Stay safe, drive relaxed..................

fliptuner 10-18-2017 11:05 AM

I don't understand how people can't comprehend that.

Presto 10-18-2017 11:22 AM

Time management is a skill that needs to be practiced. My wife's side of the family is full of people that are late to things all the frickin' time. They believe in bending space/time because they think that they can get across town in 30 min, and leave 25 min before their scheduled appointment.

google map is great and all but it sucks donkey dick at predicting traffic and travel times

it either assumes everyone drives 50 over the limit or it underestimates just how bad the actual traffic is

case in point, it always tells me that PoCo to Burnaby via hwy 1 is 39 minutes with heavy traffic, the reality is that it takes close to 60 minutes

So yeah, if google tells you something during rush hour, add 30-60 minutes on top of that

Maybe taking the Canada Line out there would be better. Less unpredictability due to traffic and you don't need to worry about finding parking.

Didn't google buy Waze?

Plus Google maps is better than before, showing congested routes and such. You used g maps lately?

yah, it's always on since i permitted assistant to basically own my life

like i said, it's great that it gives you head's up on routes and delays, but it sucks donkey dick at estimating trip time during rush hour

the problem is that it estimates the time of arrival if you leave at that exact moment, not factoring in the increased volumes by the time you actually do get to the highway and other unforeseen factors. In a vacuum it's probably on the spot. But I've seen it say 20 minutes to destination and 20 minutes later, still say 20 minutes to destination more times than I can count so I can decisively say that if you want to use Maps to trip plan during the rush hour, add that extra buffer time, because for all their fancy algorithms and data collection, they still can't get that shit right.

Waze is the reason (or at least one of the reasons) that Google Maps has gotten so better at traffic routing in the last couple of years. Definitely a slam dunk acquisition by Alphabet

trd2343 10-18-2017 04:45 PM

Hey thanks everyone for their response. I ended up going with transit instead, like someone mentioned less variability. Reason why I didn't go transit first is because I'm actually arranging this for out of town guests. But at this point, I think transit may be the safer bet.
