I moved to an older building and realized there's no handicap accessible doors to the parking. Isn't there some kind of code for buildings? What can I do?

Which city? The bc building code removed parking accessibility rules so as to match the national building code
There may however be municipal accessibility rules

That's according to this anyway

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/fa...essibility.pdf

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/i.../accessibility

Here's the city of vancouver building bylaw which adds onto the bc building code

Which u can currently read for free @ http://free.bcpublications.ca/civix/...tes/browse.xsl

i assume he's hoping to have at least 36" clear, possibly with automatic door openers as well for accessibility.

when he said older building, i assume much older than current Codes.

You need to reference code to the same year the building permit was pulled and the building was designed to.

if your building was in the 60's for example, i'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that accessibility and universal access was not even on their minds back then.

i don't think there's much you can do. if it was in fact a 'miss' by the city during that year of Code, you could narc on yourself (or your building) and see if an inspector writes the building up and demand it to be fixed. won't be a cheap fix for the building/strata though.

Why are ads for vaping products allowed to be aired on tv? It was so refreshing to see cigarette ads purged from media long ago, but vaping is getting a pass? I have my 5 yr old amazed at all the lights and colours and asking me what they are. All for 99 cents, which said he could buy because he has 100 cents (he earned a loonie the other day helping in the yard).

I bet it was a U.S. channel. That is why you see ads for restless leg syndrome. For some reason, they can block U.S. ads when it's for the SuperBowl but it's too hard for them the rest of the year.

the old Chinese guy is a heartless gangster for sure....that back hand to the female was really unnecessary, she was just trying to prevent the mentally ill guy from getting smacked around some more....something is off...soon as they acted the mental guy totally curled up in ball with no self defense, something a sick person would do you think? or were they kicking his ass for awhile..he couldn't stand up.

anyways...just goes to show don't get involved in others people drama if we don't know the full story, the guy filming is smart is keep calm and don't be a super hero, the truck guy is lucky he didn't get a 2x4 in the front window if the guy was pissed off enough to see him honking up a storm,i mean he already slapped a bitch no problem,so why wouldn't he?. also we don't know if the guy on the ground is an extortionist either, you really gonna vouch you're life for a stranger?

kinda tough to see,but you gotta remember there is a beast in all of us,and Don't back-up anyone who isn't family.

I think it's time to purchase the McBarge, load it up, and tow it to the middle of one of the many remote inlets on the coast.Who's in? We need a person with first aid/medical training, a mechanic, an electrician, a cook, a mariner, a hunter/fisherman, and we will NOT invite happysilp, gulololololol. Did I miss something? All invited people to be tested and quarantined for a minimum 14 days prior to launch date, of course. Do we need an accountant or a lawyer? j/k

Oh, forgot............ hot women. Okay, a DJ. It's party time!!!!

Okay, after watching the video above, maybe some security............ berz?

Electrical question.

I have two outlets in my kitchen. My toaster oven is plugged into outlet one, my hot water kettle is plugged into outlet two. (Nothing else is generally plugged into these outlets)

When both toaster and kettle is on, it trips my breaker.

My question is, if I simply replace my breaker, will that solve my issue or is a more advanced technique needed?

I ask because I've changed a breaker before and it's relatively easy, but I don't know if this is as simple as changing a breaker?

Thanks!

How old is the house and electrical panel?

What is the breaker rated at 10 or 15 amps?

It could be faulty outlet(s).

One of the appliances is shorting - drawing too much.

Switch breakers of similar rating to see if it is a faulty breaker.

What is the rated current draw on them? Does the cumulative sum exceed the breaker rating?

Looking at my toaster and electric kettle, the toaster is rated at 8A and the kettle is rated at 9A. It would probably trip my 15A breaker if both were operating simultaneously.

Don’t replace the breaker with a larger breaker to avoid the trip. It’s sized to prevent an electrical fire.

Just run them independently. Avoid headaches (and fire risk). Kettles are pretty quick anyway.

if your house is newer and has 20A counter receptacles then may be possible you have a breaker fault if you're only running the two things (as long as the two appliances current draw do not exceed 20A when added together)

if it's older (like 1970s-1990s) and you have 15A counter receptacles, it should be equipped with two split 15A circuits on a double pole breaker. Try moving one of the appliances to the other (upper or lower) outlet.

if it's even older, probably just a single 15A circuit, just keep in mind to run them separately

like JMAC said, do NOT upsize the breaker. that's a really good way to cause a house electrical fire. Same theory with car fuses

don't look at the amps of your toaster and kettle, look at the watts. add watts together to determine the max load.

i don't know about a 10a breaker in a home but chances are it's rated at 15Amps. In theory you exceed 1800 watts, breaker will trip, but it can trip earlier, it's all dependant on heat/real life conditions. In practice you shouldn't be plugging in more than 80% of that load 1440 watts, so if both appliances are within/over that, you're overloading it and use them separately or use a different plug on a different circuit.

you don't upsize your breaker b/c the wiring would have been rated only for 15A, if you throw in a 20A in there with 15A sized wiring, your breaker won't trip, wiring overheats, and you'll cause a fire.

PB, please don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't know basic theory, don't mess with it.

Thanks for the tips, everyone.

I don't know how to check how many amps there are?

My kettle is 1500 watts and my toaster is 1800 watts.

I guess it's easier to just not touch anything. It's not a huge deal, but if it were an easy fix I wouldn't mind doing it.

The house was built in 2004 and I'm not sure how old the electrical panel is?

I tried to upload pictures but RS said, "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing." Regardless, it's probably best to just not do anything.

Amp = Watts / Voltage
So your kettle 1500 W / 120 V = 12.5 A
Your toaster 1800 W / 120 V = 15 A

Regardless, it will exceed both 15 or 20 Amp when you run them concurrently on the same circuit, so it doesn’t seem like there’s a problem with your house or appliances. Just keep in mind to run them separately and stay safe

yeh that's well over the amperage regardless if you're on a 15A or 20A circuit, either use them separately or find another plug on a different circuit (not the same circuit)
