Anyone know if car loans from banks are cheaper from the dealer? I heard about it being so from car group chats but it was only one person.

Yes, dealer rates are typically better for used and much better for new vehicles.

Wow, the RCMP are on all four corners for cell phone check at Kingsway and Willingdon and west bound at Nelson. Plus there is a guy taking pictures for them

Good. They should be doing something worthwhile on the roads.

vpd traffic dept should do the same instead of giving out VI's

Anyone with iOS device get slammed with updates? I update regularly. This morning, 27 updates. If that weren't enough, 14 more just now. Must be huge security breach or major OS glitch discovery.

Do you guys find it annoying when couriers just leave things in front of the house and leave? I would assume a signature or notice slip be issued when you buy an item that's like a few hundred bucks. It's like someone can walk by and take it...

Im amazed at this too.
If its people buying 5$ garbage off amazon, whatever.
But when its a couple hunneds, or even thousands, you would figure signature is mandatory.

I had a laptop dropped off, no call, no nothing, just chillin at my door. 2300$.

I wonder if its cheaper for the companies to pay for 1 of 100 stolen items. Vs than it is to pay 100 of 100 extra shipping costs for signature, etc.

Hondaracer 09-01-2021 12:59 PM

I had a custom suit dropped off snd the guy from DHL called me asking if he could just leave it at the door. I was gonna be home in 7-8 hours or so so I said sure, please tuck it under one of the cushions on the front porch.

Guy leaves it sitting on top of the one chair in view from the street..

i also don't like how the status says: hand delivered to owner when clearly wasn't.

i have 2 columns at my front door, most hide stuff behind it, but some lean it against my front door for all to see. :seriously:

underscore 09-01-2021 01:43 PM

I'll take dropping it and running vs trying once at a weird time, leaving no notice, and never coming back.

It seems only Amazon does some due diligence by at least making some effort to conceal it under the carpet or behind the bush, and they take a picture they actually delivered it.

UPS/Canada Post etc, they would literally leave it right at the front door in plain sight, no fucks given.

I actually looked into that before.

The problem is delivery rate and cost.

If they "require signature". The cost for every delivery will increase and the amount of packages that can be delivered on a daily basis will take a hit.

Because you don't always have someone to be home to sign, and cost for couriers to go back to the same place is rather high when consider no new revenue is created.

So, Amazon and many major e-tailers mostly see it as a cost of doing business. They'd rather risk losing 1 packages for every 100 packages (which they could insure it), rather than paying $1 more for every delivery.

Not sure when you had this, but in the last year DHL has really upped their game. Unfortunately they're the only real option from Japan right now so I'm forced to receive shipments through them (I say unfortunately because you ALWAYS end up paying duties, but regular post it's like 1/5th of the time only) but nowadays they send you regular e-mail or text updates and they ask you if you want to forego signature confirmation or let them leave it and it allows you instructions. I always write in to walk around the back of my parent's house and leave it on a table under their patio at the back door... they do it every time.

I used to not like DHL at all, but they seem pretty good now despite the fact I have to pay taxes every time I found them to be quite pleasant and upstanding.

Not like UPS, anyone wants to read about my experience with them you can google the UPS store in Richmond at Garden City & Blundell to see my review or ask me for pics of how the model I sent arrived.

I will give them credit in that regard as I did receive an email and the delivery driver called me when I wasn’t home

As opposed to a few years ago I remember I got somthing through DHL and they didn’t even contact me period, I had to call into the wharehouse and have them tell me my package was sitting there

punkwax 09-02-2021 02:15 PM

I sell things and stuff for a living and when I started for my current employer, I came home one day to roughly $20-25K worth of demo gear sitting on my front steps.

Sure glad I don’t live in Whalley..would’ve been a horrible start to my career here :lol

When the traffic light changed, I gave the guy behind me a thumbs-up because I noticed that he left a big gap to wait on the sensor to activate the advanced left. Good to see another person that knows their random exploits.

I do that too! only if there's no car behind me. Tho I find sometimes it doesn't work.

Speaking of roadside manners, is it 4 ways flash once for thank you?

I used to do that, but realized that under certain circumstances, you're not doing the flow of traffic any favours. Preventing thru traffic from going, for two cars to turn left. There's a reason for the second sensor. Late at night when traffic's light, sure. Nobody would care. I knew a guy who would purposely reverse to trip the sensor. Until he got caught by the cops, lol.

Long before Turo (car share), AirBnB, pool share ... these Chinese ladies who live around PNE perfected the art of making $$ off your things. It's their busiest 2 weeks of the year!

For double doors like this, in regards to the door handles. Can I just buy two full sets, then to make 1 a dummy handle, by removing the middle mechanism that moves left and right?

There was an old lady that must have been 80+ basically straddling a walker trying to dat parking money. Wife and I came and went to the PNE and she was still outside in somewhat chilly weather. Fuck was gonna give her the $20 just to go back inside

I usually give it 2 flashes but I don't think it's very common either way.
