My parents home in Calgary has just sold.
They will be moving to Kelowna.
Move is in the next 30 days.
Size of move = a large 4 bedroom home.

I am looking for recommendations re: reputable companies that Revscene members may have positive experiences with in terms of an inter-province move.

It is the first time actually hiring a moving company as when we moved into that house 21 years ago we just DIY'd with U-Haul. No time for that now unfortunately.

Your suggestions are most appreciated.

all moving companies are dodgy. every mover I've known has some sort of substance abuse issue, but they don't even care.

punkwax 12-20-2021 06:15 PM

^ I have a damaged antique China cabinet to back that statement up.

I heard of it a while back, but since I was down there recently, I picked up a few Seahawk decals. Love the logo (the team logo, not the blue flag with maple leaf).

3300 Canadian seasons ticket holders? Wow.

I agree with the above, when my parents moved to Ontario my dads new employer paid for what was apparently a pretty high end/expensive moving company and a bunch of stuff went missing. They'll be tired, but don't rush at either end. Be sure everything is packed well and accounted for at the other end.

Either that or see if you can rent those moving containers for a move that far. I used one when we moved across town and it was awesome.

Thought this was interesting

McDonald's Japan is low on potatoes, so they're limiting fry sales to small sized orders only.

McDonald's Japan gets their potatoes from Vancouver and the flooding fucked em up

I posted this in the what grinds your gears thread, but thought I'd share here also.

Was at a dealership picking up my car from service and returning a loaner, and this young couple is also returning a loaner.

Couple: "oh, by the way, someone stole the catalytic converter - just thought you should know".
Service advisor "??? wtf? Let me get my manager"
Manager: "Oh well, that sucks but it happens. Have you called the police?"
Couple: "No"
Manager: "Oh, ok. You'll need to file a police report, then get ICBC to pay for repair under your comprehensive, you'll just need to pay the deductible"
Couple: "What, why do we have to pay"
Manager: "Well, because the car was in your possession. Don't worry it won't affect your premiums"
Couple: "Yes but we don't want to pay the deductible"
Manager: "What do you mean, you can't just not pay - the car was in your possession"
Couple: "Yes, but it's your car not ours"
Manager: "But you signed the insurance waiver and transfer form"
Couple: "We weren't told this would happen, we don't want to pay"
Manager (now irritated but still professional): "That's not how it works, if we damage your car while it's in our shop, then we would pay to fix it, right?"
Couple: "Yes, but we still don't want to pay"
Manager: "So that means if you were to crash the car into a tree you still wouldn't pay??"
Couple: "That's different, this wasn't our fault. What if you give us the money to pay the deductible"

At this point I'm openly staring in disbelief, like how fucking thick does your face need to be where your entire argument is "I don't want to pay". Like fuck people, come on.

whitev70r 12-22-2021 03:17 PM

Haha ... people don't understand that when they take a loaner or if they forego the extra coverage on their rental car, their ICBC coverage is transferred to that car.

I hate customers.

I was at Lansdowne today and it was pretty dead. Officially you need a reservation but if they have time they will squeeze you in. The girl taking the pics does a really good job of trying to get your little one to look.

I spotted one in Mazatlan. Figured I had to try it.. the reviews suggested otherwise so I passed lol

whitev70r 12-27-2021 07:34 AM

^ Yah ... if this is the Vancouver that they named franchise after ... we are not particularly known for wings.
