i just buy turbo tax and file my self.its pretty easy and layed out on where to plug in numbers for your investment properties

Not a CPA, but I regularly file both personal (T1) and corporate taxes (T2, GST/PST). I second lilaznviper, if your taxes aren't too complicated just buy a software and do it yourself.

WealthSimple, formerly Simple Tax. Easy and free. I found their website so easy, I just donate $50.00 to them each year.

https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca

I should correct myself and say Simple Tax merged with WealthSimple two years ago.

I'm surprised you guys DIY.

I guess next question would be, you guys also use capital cost alliance claims? I had no idea what this was, and still don't understand the calculations. But story cut short, this saved me 4500$ last year on a single property alone.

You either use it today, or you can use it in the future. Money today > money tomorrow.

Not sure if DIY is for me, there's way too much shit going on. On BPforums everyone seems to be on the page of using a CPA without question

Thanks for replies regardless

So ive lost some of my sense of smell long ago but my wife says she can smell gas in our upstairs bedroom whenever a plane flys above us. Is that even possible that she can smell that. She is highly sensitive to car smells while i work on cars daily and cant smell shit

Capital Cost Allowance is simply CRA’s predetermined rate of depreciation for certain asset types.

Outside of the tax purposes, people may depreciate an asset using their own calculations. CRA has set predetermined rates to mitigate abuse of depreciation rates by taxpayers.

Sometimes it's just easier to pay someone to do it for you. At the end of the day, people can learn how to do a lot of things, it's whether you have the time and patience to do it.

I do my taxes every year and I hate it, but i'm too cheap to let someone else do it for me. I have rental income, a couple small businesses, and it's just mundane work that I hate doing. It's relatively easy, but I still dread it every year..

LOL!!! CBC did a great job and needs to do way more of this.

^ Love seeing all the old bills in the flashback clips

That was a really good watch. Theres so many cool little stories in Canadian history like that, that seem so trivial but are really big for a community.

I just wanna say too... the best restaurant / food truck / fast food name in the history of food places hands down has to be that "Jamaican Mi Juicy" one.

I fly planes and that's incredibly unlikely, planes don't just leak fuel for obvious fire safety reasons. Could more likely be a psychological association with engine noises?

That said, my sense of smell is weak as shit too so can't say definitively lol

68style 03-07-2022 09:09 AM

It does smell like kerosene around airports as that’s kind of the smell produces from jet engine exhaust

While walking my dog on our daily route, we came across brand new car parts for a 5th gen Celica, and a torn open box from RockAuto. First a radiator hose was found, then another several metres away, and finally a thermostat another several metres away. I'm guessing FedEx dropped the box off at the door step of the appropriate location, but someone decided to steal the box thinking there could be something of value inside? Then just ditched the items while leaving the area? Must have happen last night as everything was a bit damp from the rain. So, I decided to do a good deed for the day!

I looked up the address stated on the FedEx waybill sticker and while walking to the house, I also found the packing slip. I then returned the package to a female relative of the parts owner who answered the door. I also called the phone number listed on the waybill and notified the rightful owner via voicemail as the owner did not answer my call. Nevertheless, if you are on Revscene, I hope you enjoy your newly found parts!

Sweet car by the way.

Cheers,
Mike

Anyone ever buy something from Alibaba? Looking to purchase a larger item and have it shipped to the local port for pickup.

I'm guessing I'll have to pay the logistics company, fill out a customs form and pay taxes and any applicable duties, then pick it up?

GLOW 03-09-2022 07:32 AM

i've only bought off aliexpress, smaller items, most expensive was probably $120 clothing package. never experienced customs issues. it either gets delivered or doesn't show up and then i request refund within the timeframe :lol

shipping is slow though

Depending on the value, might not even be worth doing all the manual work yourself. I buy from Alibaba, I normally tell the supplier to declare a low value on the shipment so I pay less duties/taxes. Physical size the biggest is a size of printer paper box I've gotten, although in terms of value, I've done over $1K spending.

68style 03-09-2022 08:57 AM

You into have to do up customs paperwork or do anything special if it’s for commercial or business use.

Razor Ramon HG 03-09-2022 10:04 AM

Yeah, I'm still debating if it's worth it.

I think I might have to get a freight forwarder from China that can ship it with other stuff to cut costs on shipping. I guess they'll answer questions about customs.

To rice, or not to rice?

Bronze wheels are stock

Black ones are photoshopped on. debating on picking these up, thoughts?
Dont like any local options from 1010 or tirerack

1500$ + possible duties from USA + mounting locally

I dont mind the wheels but for some reason it doesnt look right on ur car

westopher 03-10-2022 07:03 PM

They would look quite good if you lowered it. Otherwise stay stock.

Can anyone recommend a decent customs broker?

So I'm probably gonna get the Alibaba sender to ship it to Port of Vancouver. I just need someone to handle everything else so I can just show up to the warehouse, present my forms, pay any taxes, and be on my way home.

We use PCB at work, and we ship/receive a lot of stuff cross border. Donno if they do one-off's though.
