Is the Vancouver bouillon exchange still the best place exchange currency?
The banks rates for Euros are trash compared to the actual exchange rate. Looking to change about $1000 USD into euros

Not sure if it's the absolute best, but I'm unsure you are going to be able to get a much better deal. If it's for a large amount I might shop around, but for 1000USD, any potential difference is not worth the gas money.

I actually took in a fair sum of USD recently (about $5,000) and VCBE gave me a worse rate than even my home TD branch to buy it AND they refused to take all of it at once because it was small bills... ended up selling it all at TD instead and they didn't care about the number of bills, etc.
I always assumed VCBE was the best, but surprise surprise the big bad bank beat them out. Amounted to like $90 difference, but still $90???

Prepaid debit that you can use to withdraw cash at local atms with no fees from the card. I've used it for cash in Japan and Tanzania wuth great success. Added bonus of not having to carry a wad of cash. I can send a referral if you're interested.

Sometimes the preferred rate at the bank can either match or beat VBCE. However, VBCE also has a preferred rate for their larger clients, and from what I understand, it's the best anywhere in the lower mainland including other preferred rates. A USD to CAD rate, say when it's 1:1.275 at XE (which is the spot exchange rate for large transactions), they usually go around 1.271... within fractions of large transaction rates.

Yah I had a friend do a few hundred thousand from Australia to Canada a couple years ago... and nobody could touch VCBE
But for day to day stuff they aren't as good as they used to be if my experience was accurate recently. I used to never question them at all... in fact I would have exchanged it there if they hadn't rejected me for the number of bills, that's the only reason I walked.
Always good to shop around I suppose.

Always good to shop around I suppose. | VBCE definitely isn't the best rate overall - but I have to admit, they're a lot more convenient. I used to use Everforex many years ago - their rates were slightly better than VBCE, but they'd frequently be sold out and you had to literally call in and "reserve USD" to make sure they had enough to fulfil your order.
I still use VBCE now just because they have lots of locations and the Metrotown location is open "late".
I also use their online service which lets me buy USD online, and have it deposited to my US account so I don't have to physically go down to the US to deposit money. (you can also deposit to a USD account at your Canadian bank too)
I'm interested in finding out though where everyone else gets the FX done - always down to save a few bucks on exchange where possible.

Try getting in touch with Mark at https://www.skylinesmobile.com/
If he doesn't have the dance floor equipment himself (which is unlikely) he will point you in the right direction.

I got some OEM side skirts for my Mazda. It includes jack nuts that I need to install so I can mount the skirts before screwing in the bolts. Is there a way to fasten the nut with some household tools?
EDIT: Ended up getting this and it works well other than the shit knob to unscrew the bolt once the rivet is set - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08X4DZBXS

Got a call from an 800 number. I thought it was a prank call, but a message was left behind. Then, I get a text message from the same number. It was from Costco US. Jif Peanut Butter has been recalled. It sounded serious. I bought two large size jars from Bellingham Costco about two weeks ago. They were on sale and I love Jif............. long story short, the recall has expanded now to Canada. I ate a fifth of one jar........... https://vancouversun.com/life/food/j...ble-salmonella
Just checked the production code, and sure enough, my jars are in that range. First baby formula and now peanut butter.............

You know it's a slow day when nobody whines about the weather..........
Well, I'm complaining. Four days, maybe longer with no rain, like WTF? I have to go and water the plants in my garden, ffs.
Almost double digits overnight temperatures are good for plants.......... and weeds, damn it.

I’ll jump on board the whine train.
I spent several hours dealing with weeds yesterday. Added soil and over-seeded all of the patches I had made hoping the forecast would help me out. Rained a little earlier this morning but now I’m on sprinkler duty and my back is sore af.
Oh and my dishwasher contact is seemingly fucked so I’m literally sitting down leaning against the door of it as I type this so it doesn’t turn off every 2 mins

If anyone has a similar dishwasher issue to what I had described above in future, I noticed the door was a little out of alignment after comparing one side to the next under the counter. Must’ve moved it slightly while loading it. Squared it up and she’s running fine now.
Bosch 300 series for the record.

I was going to suggest that (levelling), but isn't your dishwasher screwed into the cabinet? Or is it one of those slide it in, type.

I didn’t watch the installer do the whole job so will assume it’s a slide in since it moved and I squared it up. Or it was poorly/loosely screwed in..

Quietest dishwasher I ever owned was an Asko. Moved and didn't take it with me. So many horrible dishwashers out there these days. I currently have a Blomberg and it seems fine. Affordable and quiet enough. I abuse the hell out of it and like Timex slogan, it keeps tickin'
I could have gone with a really expensive one, but I like doing dishes by hand. Anyway, just my two bits

I will say it’ll also quickly ruin any cheap plastic items you put in (kids plates, cheap knife handles etc) so overall, a good choice as I’ve replaced those items with better quality/healthier options such as stainless water bottles, glass food storage containers etc. as a result.

Maybe I’m privileged enough to not have to sit within earshot of my dishwasher, but I think how quiet they are is highly overrated and a huge cost factor VS gain
I’d say we run our DW ALOT for 2 people, basically a full load every night. If you could manage to just run it during the night noise is a non-factor

It's a big deal in a 1BR condo... I know I have to plan when mine is on that I'm not going to watch anything I need to listen to on TV... and mine is actually not that bad I think.

I definitely appreciate a quiet one. The last time we were house shopping a place had theirs running and it was so obnoxiously loud we couldn’t hold a conversation. I know they can be replaced easily but it was such a turn off we bounced. Hopefully that’ll be good info for future sellers.
Plus you don’t have kids, Honda. Quiet streets, areas, dishwashers etc are a major factor for parents lol
