Sad to see this guy go ... he was well liked and did UBC well! But University of Michigan is hard to pass up.

But, there are always the usual suspects that don't seem to contribute with either booze or some form of snack/appy/dessert. It really irks me that every time they go to an event they don't contribute.

I had a buddy who would always bring cash to dinner outings at restaurants. Say he’d order a $7 drink and an $18 plate he’d toss in $25 like tax and tips don’t exist. I let it slide the first handful of times I noticed but one day after he pulled his stunt I had enough and called him out in front of the whole table.

I was not invited to his wedding two weeks ago :lol

As a youngster, I had the opportunity to be out in the waters around Uculet, Tofino, and Spring Cove, where my father moored his little commercial fishing boat. Back then, Tofino was a lesser known community with pristine waters with little to no tourists.

Can't keep beautiful places a secret for too long.

GLOW 07-13-2022 05:13 PM

i'll be checking it out next week for the 1st time! well...uculet and maybe tofino, i don't know what spring cove is :lol

Great68 07-13-2022 05:27 PM

Meh I much prefer Bamfield to Tofino/Ucleulet, but it's going to get fucked by tourists too once they pave the road in the next couple years...

I'm heading out there on Friday!

Yeah, sad to see him go. But I think his term at UBC was coming to an end.

Ono and his wife will be closer to their aging parents, who live on the east coast. Also, Michigan will pay Ono around US$900k, whereas he was only getting around $600k from UBC.

Try to get out on the water. The view of water from land is great, but the view from the water looking back at land is downright gorgeous.

I can just imagine how amazing it must have been for the sailors in a tall ship sailing those waters for the first time back when the white man explored the West Coast. That didn’t come out right. Anyway, you get the idea………..

Flying domestic tomorrow morning. How are wait times at security? They say arrive 2hrs early.. Is that a must?

punkwax 07-13-2022 09:14 PM

Right now I wouldn’t risk it and say yes.

Yvr - Regina, a month ago

Yvr - Long security line, but through in 30 mins. Checked bag line looked thick, didn't use it
Regina - no line

bcrdukes 07-14-2022 05:48 AM

This was yesterday.

YYZ - YVR
When I got to YVR at 9:30am, lines looked pretty long but I also overheard a couple saying it took them 30 mins. The checked bag line looked chaotic but about 15 minutes is how long it took people to get through. Definitely show up 2 hours in advance. You never know what will happen.

Same experience last weekend going to Regina. If you have a nexus card you can skip a lot of the line at YVR, I had mine but my son has been waiting to reknew his for over a year so he didn't have his, wasn't able to use that line.

You think there would be more people trying to get out of Regina which would lead to a longer line than 1 or 2 people, hate that shit hole so much. :)

I thought for security you can bring your co-travellers along with your Nexus. At least this was the case pre-covid.

Customs is where you have to go separately.

Michigan is pretty high pressure position. Their NCAA football and basketball program alone ... I'm sure $1M for the Prez of that University is covered by like one or two Wolverine game.

68style 07-14-2022 08:18 AM

Schools should probably go back to teaching instead of being giant billion $ corporations :)

whitev70r 07-14-2022 08:21 AM

^ true but teaching/academics is a non-profit and you gotta generate $$ somehow if you want to do research, hire excellent faculty, attract bright students, etc. It's a deal with the devil, I suppose.

Hmmm, maybe? I never asked TBH I assumed he needed it. That would have been good to know although it was only probably 40 min wait.

He's basically the CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation the way universities are run now. In which case, his salary is insanely low.

Gerbs 07-14-2022 11:59 AM

Car got keyed, does anyone know if the cops would ask the building / businesses I was parked outside of for camera footage? Or people just take the L?

donk. 07-14-2022 07:40 PM

@gerbs
Report it to the police regardless, they track crime, might be able to line it up with someone else's report, if you are very lucky.

In other news, I pulled into a gas station 30 mins ago, buddy guy starts reversing waiting in line, I start honking, he keeps backing until he bumps my car
Completely oblivious, did not even realize it....

I park, check the car, clear coat damage only, woman asks if I need a witness, I say no and thank her, drive off

:seriously::rukidding:

Now that I think about it, what if buddy guy claims I drove into him :derp:

punkwax 07-14-2022 07:47 PM

Gerbs, if you saw a business with a camera facing where your car was parked I’d ask them if they could search by time and date.

I’m not sure the cops would request footage for this type of crime and even if they did, it could be overwritten by the time they do.

Same for you, donk. See if you can get the evidence to prove that you’re not at fault just in case.
