Last week I had a 3PM reso and missed the 2PM by 15-20 cars. They’ll try to get you on. If you don’t make the earlier one, you’ll make the next sailing you’ve booked.
They scan your barcode like normal and tell you to line up in the normal line and that's it? Since you missed the earlier sailing, you just left your car in line and killed some time for an hour?
BC Ferries is fucking stupid, and I hate how they have their lanes system.
Stupidity 1: At the gates, there are 2 open kiosks with huge lines. Then suddenly they open 4 more randomly, and everyone who lined up behind me is now suddenly in front of me. This is even more annoying when you have reservation tickets but are juust about to make the cutoff.
Stupidity 2: They usually have dedicated lanes for reservations, and then the 'general queue' lines, two for upper deck and two for lower deck. But these aren't organized in any way. I've had cars that I know 100% paid after me, get on the boat before me.
Stupidity 3: How they load the boats is so inconsistent. Sometimes there's like 2 feet between cars and they say nothing. Last time I went some F150 parked so close to the back of my car I couldn't open the trunk.
Well the CEO got fired, so hopefully the new own institutes all the watchdog changes that were suggested unlike the outgoing one who stood pat on everything.

You know what would be sweet? If us common scum did such a shitty job, got our contract terminated with 2 years left and got paid 2 years salary as a severance. They might as well kept this fuckhead on the payroll and found a way to at least make him clean the shitter.

Maybe they just keep their mouths shut though, which for now is friendly enough I guess

It's a small complaint, but I hate how they run the ferry from Saltspring Island to Swartz Bay. They have the stupid thing scheduled to arrive just a bit too close to the next departure to Tsawwassen so you have to scramble off as quick as you can, drive way down the road to turn around because for some stupid fucking reason they can't just let you loop around at the terminal, and then have the person at the booth tell me I'm late and I really need to get there earlier next time. It's not their fault so I'm always polite but in my head I'm thinking motherfucker I got here as quickly as your stupid company would let me without having to take the earlier ferry and sit at this stupid terminal for an hour for no reason.
/rant
All they need to do is make the sailing like 5 minutes earlier and it wouldn't be a problem.

Anyone have experience renting a disposal bin? Recall there was an RS member that operated some kind of junk removal company but not sure who and what the company name was.
Look at bagster it's a large bag that can hold 3300 pounds. You buy it from Lowe's or home Depot fill it up and then call the number and a waste company will pick it up. It's $40 for the bag and $280 to take it away.
Another option is to find someone on Facebook market place.

Preemptively planning for now, but the family home of 30 years needs to be cleared out over the next few months. Will sell/donate/recycle what we can, but at a certain point it's much easier to just dump it into a big ass bin and call it a day, lol.

Moved out to tri cities to a house last winter from Richmond, one of the few things I was REALLY missing was Daddy's Grill kebab wrap, even though tri cities has way more Persian kebab places, nobody did what Daddy's did.
And so I recently bought a cheap Weber charcoal grill and decided to do my own. It was legit one of the best things I've ever made, I had to share. Chinese boy cooking Persian food:

That looks amazing! Did you follow a recipe? I'd like to try making my own sometime.
I haven't been to Daddy's since COVID and seeing those photos just gave me a craving...
I think the fresh pita is what really sets Daddy's apart. The rest of the ingredients is pretty straightforward.

This has driven me nuts for years. I just about lost it one Christmas Eve morning when I missed the reservation cutoff by 2 minutes because they didn't open up any booths dedicated to reservations. I was in booth lineup at 9:58 and got through the booth at 10:32 (for the 11:00am sailing) and the woman was like "Sorry, you missed the cutoff" so they put me in general standby. There was an RCMP car in the terminal, and I said to my wife "If we don't make it on this ferry, I'm probably going to leave in that thing"

They know how many lanes are assured to get on, so in general standby they don't load in order of "arrival" or order of "payment", until they get down to the last lane. This one's not a big deal to me, you're getting on either way, this way just lets them load faster.

I notice that they'll only have loading staff helping people and checking parking distances when the sailings are crazy busy. And when they do, they'll really pack them in like sardines.
Lol man hearing this just reinforces my unwillingness of going on ferries. I haven't gone on a ferry in over 20 years. Wife bugs me every year to go to the Island and I hesitate at the idea. It doesn't help she's always asking to go on some long weekend too. We never end up going and often but not always I'll see a thing on the news that weekend saying what a fucking shit show it was even for people who reserved. Now we have kids (8 and 3) and I finally caved and said fine. Prey for me.

The ferries are fine, all of you got them first world problems
Go on a long weekend? Expect delays
Go on a Friday or return Sunday? Expect delays
Show up for a noon sailing or 6pm sailing when everyone is also going? Expect delays
Take a day off, go Saturday, return Monday, non holiday, good to go

I havent been to Victoria since 2010 and i dont recall this new "fare saver" program they've implemented. how does this work? you book an off time "fare saver" rate, you pay in full, and then you show up to the ferry at your set time with a reservation? or is it not reserved?
Seems to be quite a bit cheaper with the fare saver. Like almost 50% off.
It's essentially reduced fare plus free reservation on certain off-peak sailings, on the condition that you pay in full up front.
You get no refunds on day of sailing if you miss your sailing. Useful if you are 100% sure of your travel plans. Risky if you're travelling from elsewhere and reliant on getting through traffic etc.
Miss your ferry and not only are you out your pre-paid fees for that sailing, but you're also on the hook for the full fees of the next ferry you end up catching.
So when you go to the terminal, do you go the reservation line? should i arrive like 1h early and sit there?
You have to arrive between 60-30minutes prior to your sailing.
I've been too early before on reservation (somewhere around 1.5-2 hours early) and they said I could either sit in standby for the next sailing (which no guarantee I'd get on) or come back in an hour. I took the latter, just chilled out over in the arrivals lot, had a Japadog, and then got back in line.
I used to do a lot of work over on Vancouver Island extensively where I planned my schedule by arriving 30 - 60 minutes prior to my preferred sailing. If in the event it was too early (usually due to my own volition) they told me to get lost so I often took a nap in the car or did some work, or went into the terminal to grab a quick bite or washroom break and head back.
You sometimes have to make a judgement call especially on the more popular sailing times as to buck up and simply wait or leave and come back. I often stayed as opposed to leave and come back so I could make it back in time for Stock and Noob meets (no joke.) Get off the ferry, take the highway back in to Richmond and host the meet. Good times.
