Hot tip. I’m a white guy, so if you tell me to go back to anywhere it should be Scotland or Germany or something. | I’m about as pro-meat as you can get. I often have this conversation with friends etc. as to what your “favourite food” would be in terms of a single item for a last meal type thing etc. mine would almost certainly be a slab of meat, a super fatty rib eye etc.
However I’ve long since given up any preconceptions about vegetarian, vegan dishes etc. how can you not eat a simple peice of fruit and be blown away by the flavour. I’ve had some pineapple and peaches that were so fucking amazing I had to find people to give them to share the experience lol. A basic peach is like bordering on orgasmic so how can you ever poo poo any sort of dish where an excellent chef has currated amazing, fresh, ingredients into something mind blowing regardless of the contents.
I think so many people have a simpletons pallete and would rather take pictures of some foo foo presentation that tastes like a Big Mac over relatively simple presentation where the ingredients were the main focus
Edit* imo the definition of this form over function dining are Chinese wedding banquets. Shark fin soup and all the other shit. Those meals are fucking trashhhh lol but people think because they spent money on it it’s good? I’ve been to 4-5 for kids birthdays, weddings, etc. the meals are fucking embarrassing lol

Man, perfect example with the peach. Ever pick the perfect blackberry? It’s fucking astonishing. The issue with so many of these people is they grew up eating those bagged thumb carrots and strawberries that came on a truck from Tijuana that took 3 weeks to get here and are covered in pesticides, so they really don’t know what real produce tastes like.

We just went there again a few weeks ago, had that Zucchini dish that Honda posted, it was honestly amazing. A mix of sweetness and salty butter in the bread, mixed with the heartiness of the vegetables. Amazing combination. They also had a beet dish which was great. If you try lunch there, get the burger, all locally sourced and delicious.
Stop by Bromley Rock too for some cliff jumping.

I've got a bunch of family members that are vegetarian/vegan and what I've found is that the things with something subbed in as fake meat usually aren't very good, but the stuff designed as its own thing are good.

Fake anything is usually horrible as it's trying to pretend to be something it's not. Building from the ground up where the flavours work together is always going to be better.

Indian food is the OG vegetarian cuisine and it's delicious most of the time they've been at it since time immemorial.
I'm sorry but the vast majority of White people can't make vegetarian and especially vegan food taste good. Maybe give it a few hundred more years of practice. Doesn't help that so many of you guys are averse to any kind of spice.

I'm just speaking in generalities of course - it's not your fault your people had the benefit of cold weather and refrigeration. Us Equatorials had to spice everything up so our food wouldn't go rotten the next day. But these days it's usually white guys that order atomic spicy hot-destroy-your-butthole-the-next-morning wings that I can't compete with. I take it your palette is more refined?

youre right, indian veggie cuisine is the only one i can tolerate. I tried going veggy for a few weeks (nearly died) but i ended up basically only eating indian food for the entire duration.
Chinese vegetarian is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DISGUSTING.
made my dick shrivel up just thinking about it.

Lebanese/Syrian food is also excellent for Veg. But hard to say how strict they are with cross-contamination since they love their kebabs too.
Anyone know of any good South Indian restaurants that are not Dosa restaurants? Used to go the Chutney Villa but they seem to have changed hands a few times and gone downhill and now renamed to something else. The authentic stuff is delicious and completely different from other (north) Indian food you'd normally get here in Vancouver.

Tangentially related but I've recently been going to Yasma in Coal Harbour for Lebanese and Zarak in Mt. Pleasant for Afghan food. Both are new and quite trendy/fusion-y but have excellent food.
Also Ethiopian Food is another excellent option for Vegetarians. Lots of options in Vancouver

Heirloom, Meet on Main, Chickpeas, Chao Viet are all pretty good vegetarian restaurants. Very creative and bursting with flavour. Lots of vegetarian bowls on menus are pretty damn good as well.

The lady there was always so nice, albiet service was slow on occasion. Sad to hear them gone now.

I recently watched a foodie show on Netflix that introduced me to pikliz. Made Haitian griot with pikliz this week and the spice level was super addictive.
Don’t judge the plating lol. I had to wait 5 days for the pikliz to hang out and get to know each other so I just went for it with no f’s given on how it looked
