So this was the story that nearly gave me a heart attack last night when my phone suddenly went blaring off due to the AMBER alert.
Sounds like the mom just took her son and fled cause the doctors wanted to do tests on her son without her consent.

The kid was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis apparently. Without immediate treatment, it can definitely be deadly. Lots more to the story I'm sure.

If your phone is on DND, the alert just pops up a message on screen, no vibration no ringtone.

My iPhone is set to automatically go on DND at 11pm and I still got the blaring klaxon ringtone at 11:20p,. Luckily I was just getting into bed but I'd have been royally pissed if I was fast asleep.

I go to bed at 8:30, up sometime between 2am and 5am most mornings due to my asshole dog and not beingable to fall back asleep. I was in deep sleep. Anoying for sure but I try and remember what if it was my kid and it's a real emergency?

A parent's biggest nightmare. I lost my daughter (she was three, at the time) in a crowd at Willowbrook mall in the middle of Christmas shopping rush. There's no words that can describe the emotions and thoughts that you experience/go through.

Having a child go missing from your house. I just can't imagine.............

I hate it when they test the system out. No emergency. Just, "Oh yeah, we need to know it works." Even with plenty of warning, lol. Whoever came up with that sound did their homework. Sleeping with the phone next to your ear........... nuff said.

I dunno maybe have two systems:

A "The end is nigh" blaringly-loud klaxon alarm for when the Big One hits or when Nuclear Holocaust is upon us.

And a less jarring but still loud "beep beep" for Amber Alerts, severe weather phenomenon that doesn't shut off for like a minute or so.

I was still awake and I heard the alarm going off from my living room while I watching TV (I leave my phone in my computer room/office when I'm at hom).

I was contemplating not even bothering to look at it, thinking "It's probably just another amber alert nowhere near me".

Enough alarms like this and people will tune it out, they better be careful.

My phone doesn't make a sound either, I think it's cuz I usually have it set to DND but I was awake n gaming on my phone and the alert blocked my game

What was bad tho is I forgot I had the TV on (it went blank from inactivity) and the TV was blaring the alert too! and that was annoying af, had to switch to a different input or turn it off
