Esims are fucking awesome.

Have been using one from Orange for over a month now, incredibly simple to use and almost limitless roaming. 20GB Of data with talk and text for $30 CAD, lasts a month. Can switch back to my physical sim at any time to check voice mail etc.

Ugh. Then you might try the SIM cards they sell in those gas stations. Eruhhh I can’t recall which one but I think their equivalent 7/11 or something carries local SIM cards that’s prepaid. Give one of those shops a call and they can direct you

T mobile has some prepaid things and sprint does as well if I remember.

+1 on ESIMs. Before my trip to Asia last month I got a local-market eSIM loaded onto my phone for use right away once I landed. It's a lot more convenient than before when I had to find a place that sold local sim cards, plus I no longer have to swap out my Canadian sim and risk losing it physically.

+1 for Airalo. Just got back from France and it worked pretty well for $10USD 3GB. Sometimes lost data signal so had to restart but otherwise worked like a charm.

This is the first place I look before I travel anywhere now.

Some local solutions should still be cheaper, but unless you are staying for a long while, nothing beats esim.

What's the difference between an eSIM card and a SIM card?

Edit nm it's just a sim card built into your phone that can jump from plan to plan. Neat but not super necessary when you have dual sim.

He mentioned earlier in a post where his phone was too old and not compatible with eSIM. He needs a physical SIM card.

@SkinnyPupp - eSIM is the same as a regular SIm except it's an electronic type of SIM card that gets downloaded onto your phone over the Internet without a physical card. A good example of this are Apple Watches and similar wearable smart watches that use eSIM. The latest iPhone released last month in the US is eSIM only.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/11/...e-iphone-xr-xs

I have an iPhone XR with Freedom Mobile plan that covers Canada and US, so no need for a second sim or esim. Good to know I have options when traveling abroad.

I drove around with the top down today. Big mistake. The interior was covered in a fine layer of ash. Pissing me off cuz when I wiped down the seats and dash it was all black soot.

Well the big plus is you don’t have to deal with all the scammers and BS of haggling or finding a physical sim.

With orange all I did was scan a QR code and setup an account and I had a second sim and phone number working in about 15 minutes without leaving my house

+1 for airalo

used it on my last trip, for my wifes phone and was easy to connect using their esim. just scan qr code and update the APN. i think most of the time it was on the t-mobile network.

My telus plan includes us and canada data, was using all 3 carriers network depending on where i was, which was great. always a strong signal.

How did you find the pricing of airalo vs. buying a physical sim card at the airport?

Anyone else have any recommendations that services the Vancouver area? If not, I'll just go with whoever pops up first on the googs

Awwwwww............ the sweet smell of rain. This is what Vancouver is supposed to be............ Pacific Northwest Rainforest.

Soon the grasses and plants will be green again and the fricken smoke in the air will be eliminated.

Just drive carefully. No rain for a long time means the crap on the roads will be lifted and flowing. Slippery as fuck.

Not bad, got the 5gb for 30 days for about 11 bucks usd. was easy to setup on the phone and i didn't need to carry around the pokey thingy to take the sim tray in and out.
