do any of you guys use a car cover while storing your car in the garage? i never used one, but im thinking of getting a half decent one this year to cover the corolla while its not going anywhere. Saves me having to wash the fucker when i do want to use it.

Good "fitted" satin one or Ali Express one for 40 bucks?

No, cover can cause scratches if dirt gets under it. Might be better to just ensure seals on the garage is in good shape. You could always get those inflatable garage things, they look like bouncy castles, but for your car.

Ended up buying one from Amazon for $60 for our car, using it outside however

For $60 the quality was pretty good. It’s the one with a zipper for the driver door and it’s got some fluorescent stripes on it if you’re looking

me and the wife were bored so we found this place called 4 cats where you can make stuff with clay. for 20 bucks an hour, it was a lot of fun and i totally recommend it. I havent done anything with clay since high school and it forgot how enjoyable it is

inside was literally all women, so for you single bro's out there... HU HU HU

Suppose to look like this

forgot to add that they'll fire it in a kiln for you, and then you paint it, and they'll fire it again to put on the finishing glaze. afterwards the item is shiny and food safe/dishwasher safe. EXCELLENT !!!

good for kids bday parties as well.
i ended up doing a thing with my family there, as simple as making a mug from a slab of clay. 1hr was pushing it though, it felt like a bake off reality show where you are on a time and had to beat the clock.

How long are you planning to store the car? I don't think a cover is really necessary if the car is stored in a garage.

Agreed. I store my “fancy” car over the winter months in the garage with no cover. Over ~5 months, it gets a bit dusty but that’s all.

I throw on the factory indoor cover that came with my Boxster while it's in storage. I moved to Mississauga in 2020 so I decided to rent a space over the winter as we were in between fall and winter. At risk of losing the storage space, I drove the car over to the storage facility and forgot the cover as it was still packed in God knows which box. Low and behold in the spring, it was dirty AF.

Try to get a good one with a good fabric as you still need the car's paint and the material to breath over the winter and while stored in the garage. I would not recommend a non-breathable material as it could trap moisture and cause long term problems in the end.

It’s just for a few weeks that the rain is here. I never used the cover for the maz before so I wasn’t going to use it for this Corolla either but I’m getting lazy and don’t want to wash the car.

It gets a bit dusty sitting in the garage for a few weeks. But I’d be worried about moisture/mold/bugs as you guys pointed out. Thanks for the tips.

ICBC discounts if you drive less than 10,000km/yr coming in 2023. Nice.

Quote:
You may be eligible for the discount if you:
Drive less than 10,000 kilometers per year
Provide two odometer readings a year apart, as proof of your driving distance
Have a 12-month Autoplan policy with ICBC optional coverage
Have a vehicle within an eligible rate class. Although most vehicles are eligible for this discount, some are not, such as motorcycles, motorhomes and collector vehicles. Talk to an Autoplan broker to find out if your vehicle is eligible.

This is a new tier - the original tier was up to 5,000km/yr and this one goes up to 10,000km/yr. I do about about 8,000km/yr so I'll qualify now - probably just 5% I'd guess but I'll take it.

When you say a few weeks, are you planning to take it back out in the winter?
Rain is probably going to last longer than just a few weeks, if not snow from the winter.

But as someone mentioned earlier, you should wash the car before putting on a cover, cause the cover can end up scratching the car. Washing the car is kind of inevitable. Don't take this the wrong way... but for a guy that cares enough to cover a corolla from dust, it also seems contrary you also don't care enough to wash the car, lol.

I usually just wash my car and keep it parked in the garage uncovered. It accumulates a fine layer of dust after a while, but it's also a car and it's not going to harm it?

@badhobz, have you used waterless/rinseless wash products like Optimum No Rinse (https://optimumcarcare.com/product/o...se-wash-shine1) before? This might be the easiest way during the winter to wash your car. I can bang out a wash in 20 mins with it and I do it in my garage. If you fill a 5 gallon bucket with it you could use it for 3-4 washes easy especially if it's just dust/light dirt on the car (I use a Big Red Sponge).

Sometimes it's hard to tell if Badhobz is referring to his Corolla as his LC500 or not. Or if he legitimately has another Corolla. Come to think of it how many cars do you have? Like 15? No wonder your wife gets so mad at you lol

I really gotta try this stuff. Im a bit worried i might be rubbing dust and dirt onto the paint... or in this case the wrap... but ill give it a shot this winter.

Optimum No Rinse (ONR) was pretty good when I lived in a condo and couldn't go out in the winter to do a serious car wash.
