So annoying, BC should grow a backbone and just quit these time changes instead of waiting on the US

Because it would be super annoying for BC companies that deal with the US.

Badhobz 03-12-2023 09:46 AM

Yeh but for half the year it’ll make travelling to the states a huge chore if we don’t sync with the states. It won’t fly, too many idiots on both sides of the border

MG1 03-12-2023 01:26 PM

Yup, build and they will come...............

Take the initiative for once. Everybody........... well most people, want it. All waiting for second coming of the lord or something. Like my Born again Christian friend would say, "DO IT, then ask for forgiveness."

This is where the god bless idea originated from. Fuck someone over, then say, god bless............

A christian fuck you. It works, man. If you piss someone off who is christian and you say, god bless, they will forgive you. Unspoken rule, gulolol.

"Oh, he's one of us............................."

Don't wait for californicators, start it here in BC, then promote it. Kind of like Roger Neilson and Towel Power.

N.V.M. 03-12-2023 04:46 PM

"its easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission."

I'm not an Oscars watcher but this was just epic. I loved "The Whale" but haven't watched "everything everywhere all at once" yet but it's definitely on my list as well as "the banshees of inisherin"

I love raw human emotion that comes through genuine human interaction. These 2 deserved their wins.

mikemhg 03-13-2023 11:33 AM

The Whale was 9/10.

All shot within one room. What a film, Fraser absolutely killed that performance. At times I thought I was watching a documentary as opposed to a theatrical film.

The way they were able to use the mechanism of eating food as a method to make you cringe in his self-destruction was unbelievable.

A24 are KILLING the game. Every film from this studio is a must watch, they're the new Miramax.

CivicBlues 03-13-2023 11:54 AM

Of all the nominees I only saw The Whale, EEAAO, and All Quiet on the Western Front.

The Whale was based on a play, which is probably why it "felt" so different. Took place entirely in his apartment, only 4 or 5 characters, etc.

EEAAO - I can see why this win can be controversial. Asian cast aside, I think a lot of boomers (like my dad) who never watch sci-fi can't really wrap their head around what a "multiverse" is and kept thinking things were happening chronologically or thru flashbacks/past lives. I also didn't think it was that great but entertaining nonetheless.

AQOTWF - One of the most depressing movies I've watched but absolutely deserving of it's Best Foreign Film award.

Badhobz 03-13-2023 04:14 PM

As a Chinese guy seeing these two win best actress and support is nice… but really not all that deserving. I don’t think Michele’s performance was that great and neither was quans.

Brendan with the whale is well deserved. But I feel they gave Oscars to yeoh and Quan just to encourage diversity and inclusivity

Not the first time. Remember when Crash won best picture? What a trash movie.

Hondaracer 03-13-2023 04:29 PM

They had some highlights on the news just now

The global announcer referred to Yeoh as a “person of Color?” Lol

Never heard an Asian person referred to a person of Color?

Well, who d'ya think should have won then? I think hardly anyone saw the other nominees in before the oscars announced them, myself included. So if you have tell me who's performance was clearly better. You can't really say it was a diversity hire without saying there was a better candidate.

Also, Michelle and Ke Huy didn't just win Oscars they also won on the Golden Globes, BAFTA, SAG, et al. They cleaned house.

I couldn't disagree more

N.V.M. 03-13-2023 05:51 PM

everyone gets an Oscar.

StylinRed 03-13-2023 06:17 PM

I thought Ke Huy and Yeohs wins were well deserved, the nominees were great too, except for Ana de Armes as Marilyn ugh that movie was awful

100%. The movie let Michelle show her range - range that most actors simply don't have and range that went from action star to harried store owner to loving mom.

I don't know that the movie itself was the movie of the year (I liked it a lot though) but Michelle and Quan were fantastic.

Badhobz 03-13-2023 06:49 PM

she "acted" like any asian parent would. come on, what range... maybe its not so rosy because to me, but that hardly seems like acting. Any and every chinese mom has about the same kind of bs. FeelsBadMan

id take Kate in Tar over her. but i guess she already has an oscar.

whitev70r 03-13-2023 09:15 PM

OMG, so high expectations, was really hoping that Everything, Everywhere, All at Once would be a great movie but it was a waste of 2+ hrs of my life. I would give it like a 1/10. Honestly, I could have fallen asleep after 15-20 mins but forced myself to stay awake. When I saw the third subtitle, 'All at Once' ... I thought to myself, oh gawd, please not another act to this torture.

I'm with Babhobz ... what range?! Yeoh was the same in every verse if you ask me. 95% of it was satirical humour, 5% good dialogue. I have watched classical kung fu movies so not a stranger to that genre. Hot dog finger verse ... holy shit! K, can someone explain that to me??!! I don't know how white people would sit through that and read the subtitles for 80% of the movie. The daughter was prob the best actor/ress in this movie. Jamie Lee Curtis, are you kidding me? I actually didn't see any of the other best actress nominated movies other than the clip at the oscars but the 5 sec clips showed more range of other nominees than Yeoh.

If you can't tell, hugely hugely disappointed.

SkinnyPupp 03-13-2023 09:18 PM

When a White person wins an Oscar, which is 99% of the time, it's based on merit. When an Asian or Black person wins, it's to encourage diversity.

yyyyyyyyyyup

Hobs is just being a Chinese parent. When some one else wins, look at them why can't you be like that. When your own wins, nah he got lucky.

CivicBlues 03-13-2023 10:49 PM

Yeoh doesn't have any children nor are any of her previous roles similar, so acting like a "typical Chinese mom" is out of range for her.

Still waiting on a rationale on why Quan didn't deserve it. Or the fact they won practically every other award out there but somehow #Oscars DiVeRsiTy WiN

In this case. I would say so. Although Jamie Lee for supporting instead of Hong Chau in the whale is a total snub.

Look I’m glad we got some Asian representation at the Oscar’s. Hopefully this will encourage a new breed of Asian actors not limited to some nerd / kung fu / trope. With all this anti Chinese hate that’s going around, we need this.

But hot dog finger universe ? A ah mo playing an ah mo ? Big deal… I like quan too but dude played your stereotypical Chinese dad / Chinese uncle. I really don’t see how that’s a stretch for acting abilities.

N.V.M. 03-14-2023 05:30 AM

Asian and great acting in the same sentence, lmao.

whitev70r 03-14-2023 06:06 AM

Civicblues - Stretch is like Brendan Fraser playing the Whale or Frances McDorman playing a homeless person living in a van, or Jamie Foxx playing a blind Ray Charles ... how is Quan's role a stretch in EEAO? I just watched a clip of Brian Tyree Henry in Causeway - he plays an amputee war vet .. that's a range. Quan - Alpha Waymond, Laudramat Raymond, and Suave Raymond ... none of which were convincing. And he did it exactly how I imagined he would ... safe. Boring as hell.

Badhobz 03-14-2023 06:24 AM

i dont like waymond too, why not just raymond, why you gotta add the W and be like WABBIT - bugs bunny/ Elmer Fuddddd thing. huhuhuhuhu im catching supporting wabbits.
