Imo the “Sony tax” is justified in that every Sony set I’ve ever owned has worked flawlessly until it’s retired due to age/tech not failure
With my prior nightmare experience with geek squad warantee I will -never- buy a warantee from bestbuy again, nor have I purchased one thing in the 3+ years after my warantee fiasco from them.
The issue becomes, if I am forced to buy a $3000-$4000 TV from best buy and I forgo the warranty, with my luck this is when somthing ends up happening. Especially with new tech like QD OLED..
My dad has had very good success in hounding manufacturers to repair TV’s after warranty lol so I’d think it take that side as opposed to dealing with BB. I would hope Sony would repair or at least assist in repairing their top tier TV if somthing was to go wrong outside of factory warranty but who knows

My Sharp Aquos still runs fantastic after 14 years. I'd definately get another one. My parents have gone through 2 samsungs in that same time period.

Alternative I guess if you don't want to deal with BB. The second alternative would be to just buy from Samsung direct.

Sunny Electronics is awesome. I have never purchased from them but their support is excellent.

It's probably out of date info now, but back in the day all Sony TV's just ran Samsung panels... so there was literally no diff.
I do not know how true that is today though... is Sony actually making their own panels now?

I do not know how true that is today though... is Sony actually making their own panels now? | Sony is doing a bit of a hybrid now with their new panels, but they are still buying from LG
The panel is one thing, and I think it’s pretty much consensus that LG makes the best panels. Imo the difference is in the internal components.
Also these days the OS is also a consideration. I’ve always found Samsung and LG OS to feel very bloated and not intuitive. Sony had a bad spell when they went to their new android system which was complete trash but they’ve since gone back to a simpler style one that most people seem to like. I haven’t tried it yet though

samsung does feel a little bloated but you don't have to really deal with most of the 'bad stuff'.
assuming you just watch netflix or your subscription services or cast to it, then to me it works great.
my dads old sony was the worst! he changed it after about 7-8 years and got a samsung last year and he's way happier. the old one would lag so much and the layout was just awful.

But when I bought our current TV, Sony XBR830B it was like $2400 for a 55” which I probably had no business spending at the time
But it’s been a fantastic TV for almost 9 years now? Still looks fantastic relative to most other entry level TV’s for sale today. So in hindsight and given how much we use the TV, $2400 over 9 years is a pretty minimal investment

For those that are looking at longevity, rtings is doing a really interesting test. It by no means properly emulates real life usage, but it's got some interesting data nonetheless. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/longevity-test
@unit We had a Samsung from 2016 and it was slow as well. It's just that over the years the hardware has improved significantly. Our new 2022 model Samsung is so damn fast. We also learned that we've had issues with Netflix across 3 different smart TVs and it might be a Netflix thing rather than a TV thing.

Practically every OLED TV in existence until 2022 uses an LG OLED panel. Doesn't matter if it's from LG, Sony, Vizio, etc.
Starting last year, Samsung started manufacturing their own QD-OLED panels. It's used in the Samsung S95B and the Sony A95K. Samsung also manufactures pretty much all the OLED (AMOLED) screens used in laptops AFAIK.
My LG C9 started having a bunch of dead pixels last year. I ended up cashing in the cheque from Asurion and then buying an open box Samsung QN90A 65" for $999.
The QN90A gets much brighter for SDR/HDR content since it's LED, but the local dimming and contrast is close enough to an OLED panel. I also don't need to worry about burn in anymore, although I didn't see any on my C9 after 5000 hours.

Sooooooooooooo....anyone want to spot me $175k? Pinkie swear I'll pay it back.
Good News: My Porsche salesman let me know there's an allocation for a BGTS available for Sept (delivery end of year).
Bad News: My money hasn't come in yet and I don't expect it to for another 12 months.

If it means anything, a lot of guys here in Ontario are dumping their allocations due to the wait times.

What are the requirements for an allocation nowadays? Does one still have to go through hoops like buying a used Porsche on the lot first plus accessories as pre-requisites?

I suppose the good news is that if my money comes in early that I'm near the top of the list for one (if they're still in production).

Joke's aside, you have to play ball like everyone else and join the waitlist in exactly the way you described it.
With luxury tax and the recent bump in prices ranging from 4% to 8% formally announced by Porsche, plus the drawn out wait times, a lot of would-be owners are giving up their allocations, getting their deposits back, and going elsewhere.
@supafamous - I'd like to know how one simply waits for money to come in early.

In the US you sometimes can an ADM (Additional Dealer Markup) which can be $30-50k on a car. Coincidentally, I was at a kids birthday party with the sister of the GM of Porsche Vancouver on Saturday who happens to be a good friend of a friend of mine. I don't think she put a good word for me - probably very much a coincidence. Quote:

I'm waiting for a payout (IPO or similar) of a company I used to work for, gotta wait for the tech investor world to pick back up first. I'm not willing to spend any of my salary on the car cause this is a totally frivolous, excessive, and once in a lifetime purchase that can only be justified by "bonus" money.
