Porsche tax is real. Honestly I don’t get that the big deal is. For that kinda money I rather buy a slightly used mclaren or Lambo or Ferrari. Or a used Bentley to cover the luxury GTing and a CTR for the sporty fun driving.

Dime a dozen in Vancouver with these Porsches.

whitev70r 05-09-2023 05:34 AM

^ Or buy a slightly used one and say the hell with the Porsche tax?

This. A lot of Porsche converts to Lotus, Lambo, Ferrari, McLaren and other marques.

This might not be possible because used ones cost as much, if not, more than a brand new one, even with the additional markups.

$40k of it is taxes - the luxury car tax really starts taking a bite once the car passes $125k. The GTS just slips over so that adds $10k more taxes on top.

Badhobz 05-09-2023 06:32 AM

^ just like my stinking ratrolla. I tried everything to negotiate with the dealer. im like DISCOUNT THE DAMN CAR!!! ill just give you money on the side. nope nope nope. nothing we can do, government needs its pound of meat.

Hondaracer 05-09-2023 06:48 AM

You’re a real knob if you’re spending 175k on a boxster lol ffs

yray 05-09-2023 08:24 AM

install packages after the sale:troll:

EvoFire 05-09-2023 09:02 AM

It's 175k with taxes. The luxury levy is a real bitch because it's tax on tax. For example at 130k price you have a 6k levy right away and that puts you at 136k. Then its 20% sales tax at that price and you tack on another 27200 in taxes and now you are like 163k and change.

Yep, here's my "demand order" and the breakdown of the costs. This is from October before prices went up by a few grand - this one is a bit loaded up as the adviser told me it'd be better if I added more on it in my initial request and then I could drop stuff later.

I'm sorry, but that's a stupid amount of $ for this type of car.........

I mean it's literally 2x a Supra (for example) and worse performance.

Your Luxury tax line seems a bit off. How did they get $8714 when it's really around $7000?

Manic! 05-09-2023 10:42 AM

Price seems high but it's around the same price for a used one. 120K to 140K USD before tax.

I would go with the manual. It's going to be worth more down the road vs the PDK.

68style 05-09-2023 11:24 AM

Speaking of ridiculous prices, I saw a Spektrum Golf R in southern US with low mileage selling for $44,000 USD hahaha... I mean, that's overpriced even in CAD nevermind the 30% exchange fuck

One of my contacts locally said the GTS Cayman and Boxster is < 6 months now everyone's cancelling lol.

Wow $173K after taxes, that's wild. Would trading in a $43- 50K car help with the taxes? Aka drop the total price of the car to sub $100K

Yeah, no idea how all that is calculated.

Maybe? I'm not sure how that all works yet - hadn't thought that far in advance since this was always going to be a 2024 type of goal.

I've drank the kool aid and I've got the itch man. Other than a 911 (I would take pretty much any version of a 911) my requirements are for a soft top manual (good looking) sports cars which is an awfully short list of cars - it's really the Miata or Boxster for me. Supras, Z4s, and Corvettes don't do it for me. Definitely no to a Fiat.

I'm probably gonna end up like Trollface - dreaming of a car that I'll never buy with everyone making fun of me.

Hondaracer 05-09-2023 12:27 PM

For 175 you’re probably touching used Ferrari Californias no?

I'd be terrified of owning a used Ferrari. I'm not gonna be THAT kind of rich.

The fact you can drop $170k on a new car... My man. Keep doing what you're doing. If it brings you joy, fuck the police, and get it.

It's definitely not the most rational decision, but do you. At that level of purchase, I will assume your finances are in order, so if the numbers work out, then go get it and make sure you post a picture when you do.

I am happy for you!

Aren't McLaren / Lambo / Ferrari in the $250k+ range? (and that's before tax)

For Supafamous' situation, I'd recommend looking into leasing the car for now because it'll work to your favour in a number of ways:

1) Your lump sum bonus isn't here yet; lease payments are much cheaper than buying it outright

2) As it stands now, you're getting raped by 2 taxes:

a) the BC luxury car tax
b) the federal luxury car tax

Your purchase price is $129,550, which just puts it into the 15% PST category. As soon as you bring the sale price down below $125k, you'd only be paying 10% PST. That's a $6.5k savings right there.

I am not 100% certain how the federal luxury tax works, but if your lease payments can bring the buyout price to below $100k, then maybe you can avoid taking the full brunt of the federal luxury tax? (I'm sure our lovely federal gov would still make you pay some of the luxury tax with your lease payments.)

Talk to their finance person and see how you can play around with the numbers.

I’m not the one spending the money and I think the California is kind of a wack car In general but I’d probably rather have a California that runs once in a while over a 175k boxster lol

I know you said you’re not into corvettes but you’re getting into Z06 territory, a car that performs like a car triple it’s value or more.

As a previous maserati guy. If you can afford the 170k price tag you’ll be okay to pay for the maintenance. It’s not that that bad. Worst I ever got soaked for was 18k at the dealership but I doubt a California is that bad. F430s are 150-170 all day long. Maybe you can even find a manual f430. Also if you take it to a 3rd party it’s significantly less.

If you’re looking at gorgeous Aston Martin’s they are easily under 200k.

Porsche tax is outrageous. The same “boxster” and “cayman” badge are on used cars with the same names for 20-30k. The general public won’t believe you spent 170k+ on just a boxster or cayman. Plus I just don’t think Porsches look all that exciting. It’s the same lame duck VW beetle design just fatter and uglier with every year and a subaru soundtrack.

Get the new aston vantage. That thing is drop dead gorgeous. Too bad the interior is whacked and totally plasticky.

Or lotus emira. Get the last proper handling, light weight, dream machine sports car.

Thanks, I'm gonna see if my sales guy is in tomorrow and drop in on him. Still gonna pass on this allocation but maybe I can get my ducks in a row for the next one - concocting a plan that passes the wife test is worthwhile.

Don't let the teasing stop you from getting the car if you want one and have the means. It's your money at the end of the day and purchases of this caliber are never rational to begin with, so just go through it..
