We bought Our 2011 G37 in 2018 with 110,000kms on it full service records from new from my dads buddy for $11k it was probably worth 18-20 given how good shape it was in, totally mint.
Like 2 years later a guy in some window repair van comes out of the alley and side swipes our parked car in the little snow on the ground, they had to weld in a new pillar and it was like $6200 in damage.
Even though he was 100% at fault Ducking guy basically just took that repair bill and more out of my net worth

What is everyone using for their front doorbell? Don't want to pay monthly subscription fee. Saw a brand called Eufy & Aosu on Amazon with decent reviews, but never heard of them in my life lol
Using the Eufy with homestation. Eufy is a sub-brand of Anker. Solid hardware and no subscription costs.
They did pull some false advertising it as "everything local, no cloud" when the screenshots are pushed to the cloud so there's that. Basically every networked doorbell will push to the cloud though.
I'm using skybell. Sucks, but I think last time I brought it up, couple members said they had no issues with their skybell. No subscriptions. I just checked, and I have 7 days worth of history for motion detection and doorbell presses. No clue where the footage is stored, but I know I didn't add any memory cards inside. In my search for the next doorbell, I've learned skybell runs on 2.4ghz WiFi when there's others out there that run on 5 GHz like Ring. I'm having a little difficulty finding the power requirements to hardwire the doorbell. I'm hoping to do a simple swap that only requires switching the wires into the new one.
I always wondered about this. How does a seat protector affect the car seat in any way? The car seat is locked in by LATCH anchors or the seat belt, I don't see how seat protector could affect anything. Even if the seat protector had 0 friction, the LATCH anchors or the seat belt would keep the car seat in place.
Realistically you're probably right, and in most crashes should not affect it at all. In significant crashes it could compress, allowing more movement for the car seat, but most likely it's car seat manufacturers absolving themselves of liability when something bad happens.
That said, whatever ridges/dents are left in leather seats due to carseats actually go away pretty easily.

I had Ring for years and it sucked monkey balls. I invested in external ringers and had it hard wired for power I paid for subscription, as well. Total waste of time and money. As yray would say, “It’s a lie!” I scrapped it and went with a Eufy with home base. It has yet to fail and I’ve had it for two maybe three years. Like the black dude on Mod Squad would say, “Solid!”
Lag is annoying when watching or answering via your smartphone, but it’s par for the course.

Lag is normal for all video doorbells? That's one of the things I don't like about my skybell. Lag so much to open the footage when someone rings the bell that I can walk to the door faster. Every choppy and laggy that I can barely converse through the device.

Do you have your skybell through Telus? They are garbage, bordering on unusable imo

No, but they probably work the same. A low voltage guy that normally pushes Ring says skybell has been around for a while, but their tech sucks. Said my lag and unreliability could be due to its WiFi bands. That's why I'm window shopping for a different brand.
the telus skybell is garbage. i also used the ring doorbell and it was not bad. I'm currently on the google nest doorbell wired one. quality of the video looks a lot better than the ring.
If you don't want subscription, you can get a unifi doorbell, but you will need a controller to record locally if you want footage.
since i have the full google echo system with their outdoor camera's i just do a subscription since i don't want to bother with more hardware sitting around the house.

Not necessarily. Storage can be local and the cloud service may simply negotiate the handshake to access the local storage/video.
Sending video to the cloud to be stored/recorded takes up storage which they’ll charge for.

Was reading up the Eufy 2K with home-base battery power version seems like good reviews online. Also offers wired option if you wanna wire it up? No sub fees as well. Might pick up one of these.
Good old Rittenhouse Sentinel 267 resonating door chime, circa 1952.
One of the most smooth & rich sounding door chimes I've ever heard. (Lol)
Previous owners of the house were complete morons and painted the thing with white latex, shittily slapped on with a brush.
I took it apart, stripped it all down and polished it all up on the buffing wheel.
One of the things I've realized as a homeowner (especially a homeowner with an old house) is that shitty paint jobs previous people did are bloody more work than if they had just done fucking nothing at all. Like, no your shitty slapped on latex paint on the door hinges looks like ass, and now I have to spend a fuckload of time stripping it all off before I can repaint it properly.
Skybell. No sub. Sucks. Garbage. Unusable.
Eufy. No sub. Needs home base. People are happy
Ring. Sub. It's a lie and waste of time.
Unifi. No sub. Needs extra hardware. $$$
Google nest. Sub. Better image quality than Ring.

Nice restoration. It is so much more appealing to have something making a noise that is actually a "thing" rather than a shitty speaker playing a recording or synthesized sound. In the 90's I probably would have said the opposite. Same with watches; maybe I'm turning into a boomer
Do you use chemical paint stripper, or just scrape it all off?
Does anyone use a battery powered doorbell camera without a subscription?
That’s kind of my criteria as it’s a huge PITA to run a new wire

I use battery powered Ring without a sub and it seems to work okay, but I have nothing to compare to. Adjusting the zone it triggers motion in helped the battery life a lot.

Thanks! Yeah chemical stripper and a wire wheel on the bench grinder did the trick
