The older I get the more I honestly don’t give a fuck. I haven’t been inside harry rosen since 2008.

I think the main difference between when I was younger vs. now is that I appreciate more material than materialism. Fuck logos... just give me the good stuff and I'm willing to pay.

I am not ashamed to say I have spent some serious dough (well, nothing compared to high-end brand names, but expensive for what they are) on some very high-quality cloth and shoes. But they keep me warm in the winter, looks great and I can beat the shit out of them, throw into the washer and comes out pretty much the same as the day I got it.

I've worn the same pair of leather boots for almost 10yrs now. It's from a little brand out of Chile that do their shoes/boots to measure. Sure it cost me like $500 back then, but that shit is crazy. Other than some nice-looking patina that it developed over the years, it's still in incredible condition with 0 tear or cracks on the leather.

As far as maintenance goes, other than wiping it clean, add some oil it came with (same can from 10yrs ago) for weather resistance at the beginning of every fall, and I replaced the outsole twice due to wear, that shit is indestructible and it has gone through places I wouldn't want to go twice. Even the shoe shop dude that replaced the outsole for me asked me where I got them because the build quality and attention to detail was the best he had ever seen.

If any cloth/shoes can be worn for 10yrs+, looks pretty much the same but it's at 5x the price... count me in any time.

so i buy majority of my clothing from JC Penny (american sizes fit me better than the euro trash shit that makes me look like a riceroll over bbq pork) and they've all lasted more than 10 years.

It'll be a really sad day when that place goes under cuz the materials and prices of their clothing is top notch. Kind of reminds me of when i was a CN conductor and bought all those Army and Navy work clothes. Served me quite well.

What are some durable t-shirt brands available this side of border?

I tried out a few brands from SportChek just to get a feel (Helly Hansen, north face, vans). Vans t-shirt seems really nice. Washing it today to see how much it shrinks etc. Any others to look at that can last 10 years?

Hondaracer 06-19-2023 10:49 AM

Imo Lululemon makes the best t-shirts going.

They aren’t cheap but got damn they are comfortable. They also never smell unless you wear them everyday for a week. It’s my go-to by far, probably have like $1500 in T shirts alone lol

nismodrifter 06-19-2023 11:23 AM

Thats what I hear re : Lululemon. Best shirts ever. Dat price though.

I got some VW Branded Uniqlo stuff many years ago, they are holding strong, price was reasonable too. Unsure if their quality has changed or not.

Any other suggestions?

punkwax 06-19-2023 11:39 AM

I just buy $17 shirts from winners.. hit and miss of course but if you get lucky, I’ve walked out of there with 5-6 nice shirts before. Volcom, DC, Hurley, Element etc usually stocked there.

Good enough for me.

bcrdukes 06-19-2023 11:39 AM

I find Uniqlo's t-shirts, no matter which model you buy, don't last very long as long as you are wearing and washing regularly. Good bang for buck, but that's about it.

yray 06-19-2023 12:23 PM

I just wear coveralls with ATF and gear oil all over it.

MarkyMark 06-19-2023 12:39 PM

These days I spend more money on quality clothes my number one thing I look for is if it's pre shrunk or not. Being 6'2 I've wasted so much money on clothes that fit great and then after the wash its shrunk so much that it's unwearable.

Brands like Lululemon and Reigning Champ are great for basics/sweats, they are pricey though I usually wait for the sales a couple times a year.

Ah yea reigning champ is also great, high quality materials

I find it kinda hard to buy their clothes over Lulu but I’ve got a handful of stuff from them. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy more

I like RCs sweatshirts and sweatpants moreso then their t-shirts, I have had some for years and probably over a hundred washes at this point and they are showing no signs of having to be replaced the quality is incredible

i get discounts on basically all outdoor clothing so im just spoiled rotten when it comes to buying new clothes from just about any outdoor brand or mec.. once those discounts go away, idk what im gonna do.

winson604 06-19-2023 01:40 PM

I'm your typical basics guy who basically just wears plain black t-shirts with lulu athletic pants. I was sold on Lulu early on I still remember the first thing I ever bought were shorts with a liner and it took 15 years give or take of washing and throwing in the dryer to finally give way. Even then the outside was good as the day I bought them but the inner lining finally started breaking. ABC pants, dry fit t-shirts for the gym and shorts are my go to. For t-shirts I'll cheap out and get a mix of uniqlo, fresh clean threads, and true classic t-shirts all in around the $25-$30 range not cheap not baller.

westopher 06-19-2023 01:56 PM

My car was in an ad for reigning champ. The guys who run the company were super nice guys.
I pretty much just wear band shirts and whatever slim fit black jeans I happen to find that fit the best at the time. Vans, obey, jack and Jones, etc button ups so basically anything that fits that isn't total shit but isn't particularly nice either.
I really hate Logoey clothes so it cuts out a lot of options. I've got no problem advertising for musicians, but I'm not advertising your clothing brand, and paying to do it.

Anyone come back from Nanaimo or Victoria on Sunday recently?

Usually I think if you show up 45 mins early it's 50/50 chance of getting on the ferry, worst case your waiting 1hr45 for the next one.
Sunny days it's busy, rainy not so much from what I remember

Anyone care to comment?

68style 06-19-2023 05:09 PM

Just do the reservation, it’s not worth your time or stress not to especially on weekends

Badhobz 06-19-2023 05:10 PM

Yeh. Take the vette too, dem old white guys in Victoria will come up to you potentially giving you their daughters hands in marriage.

donk. 06-19-2023 05:17 PM

No reservations left on way back that work for us

It's either reserve 7am return, or roll the dice during rush hour
And I know you can just roll on at 7am without Rez year round

Hondaracer 06-19-2023 05:27 PM

Tried to make a reso for horseshoe bay / Sunshine Coast a month early and they were all sold out ffs.. there are Facebook groups of people flipping the prime resos

So now gonna have to get up and get there for like 5am
