i've been to a few destination weddings, but they were always in the home countries of the bride/groom so i didn't really see it as the same thing as picking some random tropical country for a week, blowing 5k, etc.. the wedding was not for some big dreamt up destination, it was more out of practicality so their families could attend. i went to 3 of them and they were all close friends, and yes i gave a gift every time as well.

Gumby 07-17-2023 10:55 AM

Fuck, I'm flying AC to Barcelona next week via Toronto - hope i don't get screwed by AC...

*Travels during peak season during the first truly pandemic-free summer in 4 years and unprecedented labour unrest in decades*

OMG...why so many delays???

Go in April, May, Sept, Oct. Fuck Summer and FUCK Christmastime. But but I have..Kids! Well, pull them out of school save yourself some headaches and a few grand. None of that shit they learn in Elementary matters anyways.

This time last year everyone's baggage was being lost. Remember that? Shit always happens in the summer.

68style 07-17-2023 11:19 AM

Pulling out of school is no small feat tho... I seen what my sister goes through with that. Missing a week when they're in elementary age is a pretty big deal depending when.

In my Dad's case he goes to an accordion camp and doesn't have a choice when it's put on. He went last year and it wasn't an issue...

Airlines are charging and arm and a leg for tickets now but they don't pay their staff properly, just reaping the profits. There's plenty of people willing to work.

You should be ok as long as your flights are all on AC metal. I know of a few colleagues who just came back from Barcelona on AC from Toronto and all were okay.

whitev70r 07-17-2023 11:32 AM

I'm never flying in July or August if I don't have to.

Never once have I ever heard/seen this type of cancellation/delays

Also it’s very much a Canada/north American thing. I watch numerous AV geeks on YouTube who fly all over the world including Europe, Asia, etc. people who have no interest in the airlines other than to review and would destroy any airline with these types of cancellations and they just aren’t happening to them, this is 4-5 different people I watch, sure maybe a delay here and there all travelling currently and non-stop for the most part.

But 10 different flights between 8 people in a 3 week span? Lol nah man like this shit ain’t normal even for the summer. And not for airlines in general.

CivicBlues 07-17-2023 12:08 PM

There isn't really anywhere to go in July/August anyways that's worthwhile IMO.

East Coast USA/Canada - Hot and Expensive, full of kids out of school.
Rest of BC, California - On FIRE
Europe - Hot AF, crowded and stupidly expensive. Full of annoying American college kids.
E Asia - Hot and Humid AF
SE Asia - Rainy Season, also hot and humid AF. Full of annoying Euro Backpackers.
Australia/NZ/S.America - It's winter time duh
South (Mexico, CentralAm, Hawaii) - Why go now when you can escape when it's our crappy weather season instead). Plus hurricane season starts earlier and earlier you're rolling the dice.

Just sit at home and chill, hope for no smoke and plan your vacations for the Fall. Or not, keep going now and keep my flights cheaper :troll:

Hondaracer 07-17-2023 12:18 PM

Yea would never go over an ocean during peak season for pleasure travel. Even shoulder seasons in a lot of places are crazy now

westopher 07-17-2023 12:48 PM

I'm going to Montreal in august, but it's for a wedding. I'd never leave here from June-September. It's too good here to bother spending the time and money.

bcrdukes 07-17-2023 12:52 PM

Going to Montreal in August as well but company said no to flights and I have to drive from Toronto. I went to Calgary and Vancouver last month and my flights on AC got cancelled a total of 8 times. :D

They are on a looming pilot's strike due to their agreement coming up for renewal hence all the cancellations.

Badhobz 07-17-2023 12:54 PM

i dont understand why their stupid stock is still over 25 bucks though... i thought i was being a genius by selling it at 24.90 something (bought in at 21 bucks).

Whatever, i shouldnt be greedy.

westopher 07-17-2023 01:15 PM

Their stock can only go up because if it goes down they will just add more tax dollars into the company.

CivicBlues 07-17-2023 01:49 PM

Monopoly is a hell of a game.

Badhobz 07-17-2023 02:38 PM

So my moms apartment in east van had a leaky sink in one of the bathroom. I go there and found out that my stupid old man been dumping acid down the drain to clear up the slow running drains for the past few years. Everything is corroded and leaking now.

I called a plumber and he replaced the entire drain assembly for both sinks, two new faucets, new cut off valves, 2x toliet fill valves and gaskets for $1800. Took the guy less than 3 hours to do all this and I’m glad I called a professional. Last time I fucked with plumbing I almost half flooded her suite trying to change a toliet fill valve (her place has a faulty main water shut off valve so it could never be fully shut).

Now that’s a good trade to be in. Plumbers / electricians / anything and everything that people need to use on a day to day basis is guaranteed food in your mouth.

68style 07-17-2023 02:48 PM

Nevermind all the saucy housewifes you get to assist with clearing out their plumbing and laying pipe ruff ruff meow meow

nismodrifter 07-17-2023 03:04 PM

May be purchasing a vehicle from Kelowna. Recommend a company that can transport to my door? Would save me a flight and drive back.

Given the relatively short distance, it’s probably easier to just bus there and drive it back yourself. I’ve heard many horror stories shipping cars unless you spend some big bucks for big names.

donk. 07-17-2023 03:18 PM

As an option, find a friend that has a day off, pay for his flight, pay him 300$ for the day, and cover his meals

In reality your gonna be paying that anyways to a company

underscore 07-17-2023 03:28 PM

If I didn't have kids I'd do it lol.

68style 07-17-2023 03:38 PM

I'll do it for you for a percentage less than whatever it might cost to ship it! I wouldn't mind taking a weekday off from work and doing that for a mind-break.

I have like 3 cars with collector plates, not an abusive driver of other people's cars / respectful even when I rent cars from companies lol

GLOW 07-17-2023 03:47 PM

that's like me when i rent cars :lol

i remember testing driving a new car once i think i annoyed the sales guy b/c he kept telling me to gun it and telling me i'm driving like an old person

i just wanted to be respectful of the vehicle and not hoon it, i think he wanted me to see the capabilities to make the sale :lol

LOL this same thing happened to me in a used Focus RS. The sales person in the dealership told me to hit it, so I did a little tail kick in drift mode LMAO. Scared him so much we immediately went back to the dealer lmao.

Ironically, the sales guy drives a G82 M4.

68style 07-17-2023 03:58 PM

I just test drove 320icar's Focus RS the other day and I think he was a bit sad how delicate I was with it LOL

westopher 07-17-2023 04:07 PM

I'll do it if it's a Porsche for the cost of gas.
