I would go with the 77 inch LG Oled for hundreds less. Oled is a much better technology.

what the heck is this Neo QLED technology? im asking because they also have this one thats like half the price, but when i saw it in the showroom it was less bright. Max nits was only like 1000 vs the 1500/2000 nits the newer one goes up to.

There's some big windows next to the TV so im thinking the brightness will be important.

Cant do 77 cuz it'll have that nasty-looking gap. 85 is both max and minimal dimensions for that particular room. That 5 grand one is NEO QLED, it looks sharper and better than the regular QLED but i dont know if its that just the demo they are playing, or is it actually an improvement over QLED.

Razor Ramon HG 08-03-2023 12:22 PM

Lower end model. That's a Q70. The one you were looking at is the Q90.

Badhobz 08-03-2023 12:26 PM

Razor did your TV ever have any issues? is it worthwhile paying for that warranty? all this newer tech is kinda annoying as even the best buy dude said they'll go within 5-10 years.

Sorry I should've clarified, it wasn't pixel density or anything fancy that was the problem. The screen was just physically too large to be looked at that close because it extended beyond a comfortable field of view.

Hondaracer 08-03-2023 12:40 PM

Both TV’s are now considered “older” technology, you’re paying a premium because it’s an 88”

In order to get current tech in QDOLED you’re gonna be looking at min 10k

Personally I’d side with Manic in buying newer tech VS size. But if this is just a room you won’t be using all the time the original TV you’re looking at will be fine

I don't usually pay for warranty, but I did pay for my LG C9's warranty because it was an open box display model (it had like 3500 hours already and it was an OLED) and it was uber discounted.

I ended up claiming warranty work with Asurion for a bunch of dead pixels. They gave me back all the money I paid (minus the insurance) in a Best Buy gift card, I sold that and used it to buy the QN90A that I have now.

I think with your credit card, two years of warranty is probably good. I think most issues with TVs happen within the first little bit anyways, but if you want peace of mind for like 3-5 years then yeah, you can get it. If you're going to get TV warranty, you gotta get it from Costco. 6 years of warranty for $130? Fuck yea!

If you're going to be using this in a bright room, you should stick with the Samsung. My QN90A is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter than my LG C9 by a long shot, whites look actually white with no annoying ABL when the brightness is higher, and no need to worry about burn-in (newer OLED panels don't really have that much of a risk anymore, but it's still a non-zero change).

If you're going to be using this in a basement/movie room, you should get an LG OLED. Since each pixel can turn on/off, there's absolutely no blooming which is great when watching movies and the infinite contrast is absolutely amazing.

I have the last year model in 75", QA75QN95B. It's been fine. I specifically got the 95B for the breakout box, but they axed it for 23. This is a mature 4k panel that will get minimal development so if you want it then get it. Most of Samsung's resources are going into their 8k panels and QDOLED. There were minimal changes from last year.

MarkyMark 08-03-2023 12:53 PM

It's hard to go too big with a TV unless your room is tiny or you're watching garbage quality content where it's just going to magnify how crappy it looks.

Badhobz 08-03-2023 01:08 PM

I don’t think we need 8k tv as we don’t even have 8k signal. I mean the computer can do it, but I honestly think it’s unnecessary

Hondaracer 08-03-2023 01:30 PM

95% of the content you’re getting probably isn’t even full 1080.

TV’s spit out the resolution they are capable of, a VHS on an 8k screen is still displayed in 8k

Badhobz 08-03-2023 01:48 PM

God that must look like dog shit then. Most of the crap I watch are YouTube videos and historical documentaries. Even 4k is overkill. The only 4k I use is for flight simulator.

Hondaracer 08-03-2023 01:54 PM

TV’s do varrying degrees of upscaling and filling in the lines which are left out from the native content

I’d say if you’re really set on the 88” your first choice is probably the best. I may hit up London drugs and look at the model there if they have it. LD seems to consistently he willing to negotiate on TV’s

If they don’t, I’d probably settle for a comparable model from Costco for the peice of mind warranty wise. Costco also sells different models online than they do in store

donk. 08-03-2023 02:51 PM

Move your couch closer to the TV, and get a smaller TV

65" 600$ good to go

Put the extra 5400$ towards track days and come out you pussy

Badhobz 08-03-2023 03:04 PM

no!!!! im fat and power to weight ratio is fucked on my car because of my fatness.

Also, i suck at driving. Im barely better than stereotypical Chinese woman who crashes headfirst into storefronts.

You boys go racing, i just watch and live vicariously through you guys (im quite decent in gran turismo if that means anything).

yray 08-03-2023 03:09 PM

Wont fit... Otherwise I would. I still gotta find one for the media room later on. ughhh this house wont be ready for months and months.

underscore 08-03-2023 03:43 PM

Hobz here bringing out the racing driver excuses without even going racing :lol Come out to the Okanagan and we can hit up Kartplex, I can't drive for shit either so it'll be a fair race.

Badhobz 08-03-2023 03:51 PM

My list of excuses is as viable as this guy's

radeonboy 08-03-2023 03:54 PM

If you're looking for size for the media room, have you looked into ultra short throw projectors?

https://www.costco.ca/hisense-120%22...100805534.html

And if you want something for your flight simulator, then maybe a super ultrawide monitor like an Odyssey G9 OLED?

https://www.samsung.com/ca/monitors/...s49cg954snxza/

Badhobz 08-03-2023 04:57 PM

I was just gonna buy 3 monitors and put them together all ghetto like. Now that I’ve seen this panel I’ll be ruined forever.

Diablo 3 and StarCraft 1 is gonna be pretty sweet on that thing.

You can make a frame with some nice wood to cover the gap. Oled is better then qled.

Does anyone know where I can pickup a Hong Kong style tea pot for making milk tea?

unit 08-04-2023 08:59 AM

hey tool nerds, i need an air compressor at the house for small tasks. is 1 gallon enough? is 0.5hp fine?

i think the main reasons for having one would be pumping up bike tires, seating tubeless tires, and diy stuff (nailer/stapler). i want it to be light enough to move around and put on a shelf (20-30lbs is ok), and quiet as well. i think this pretty much limits me to 1 gallon unless i want to spend $500+ and even still it will be heavy. if i want to do tire rotations i'll just buy a 1/2" impact wrench since i already have some power tools and batteries.
