I'm using a 3 gallon pancake for nailing trim and I get like 6-10 nails before the compressor kicks on. Using it to blow dusty things and it kicks on within 10 seconds. It's certainly not quiet. Not too bad in terms of portability.

i think the main reasons for having one would be pumping up bike tires, seating tubeless tires, and diy stuff (nailer/stapler). i want it to be light enough to move around and put on a shelf (20-30lbs is ok), and quiet as well. i think this pretty much limits me to 1 gallon unless i want to spend $500+ and even still it will be heavy. if i want to do tire rotations i'll just buy a 1/2" impact wrench since i already have some power tools and batteries.

Yeah for intermittent tools like nailer and inflating it will work great, but that's pretty much all it will be able to do. Forget about anything that uses constant air, ie: die grinders, paint guns, sanders, etc

I have a 240v 3hp 30 gallon and it can even struggle with those things.

headhunt3r 08-04-2023 02:37 PM

For the tasks you've listed, I think you can still get away with just buying cordless electric tools.

For bike tires I use this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/rid...ly-/1001547823
They also make nailers like this: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/rid...ler/1000828866

Other brands have similar offerings.

I do have an oiless compressor (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/por...sor/1000657974) but it's pretty loud. If quiet is a top priority you should see if the tech for oiless has gotten any better in terms of noise. I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would.

Hondaracer 08-04-2023 03:27 PM

Cordless brad nailers drive me fucking crazy with all the mis fires

Maybe they’ve fixed it now but even the better models from paslode etc. we’re super fucking annoying even for small jobs

underscore 08-04-2023 03:29 PM

If you're buying new I'd go electric as well. I have a 2 gal and it does okay with nailers and quick bursts of bigger tools but that's about it, and it's really loud. The only things I bother to drag it out for are seating the bead on SUV tires and my headless pin nailer for trim. But I bought one of these for airing up after offroading and it flows enough to seat a bead so now all the compressor is only used for the pin nailer. I don't think there are many electric ones for whatever reason so if you're planning a lot of that air might still be a better deal.

If you are set on air iirc it's cfm @ psi you need to worry about. Look up the requirements for the tools you want to use and work backwards from there.

I think when it comes to compressors, you either go big or go home. This is from a person who went through 3 different compressors.

The idea is to get a large compressor and all the potential attachments that can be used for a whole variety of situations.

But from what's listed, and if you have no plan to expand your tool arsenal later on, just skip the compressor. It's not worth the trouble.

MG1 08-05-2023 02:11 PM

I have a couple of compressors. Nothing huge, but my Makita is pretty good. CFM @ 90 PSI is not great. I have it in a deck box. Holes with computer desk thingys for electrical and air hose. Retractible hose reel. Can't hear much at all. The last time I've used it? Can't remember. Milwaukee M12 M18 tools, ftmfw! I even check tire pressure with the M12 inflator Set the PSI and it does the rest. A little noisy, but what a joy to use. It comes with storage for accessories to pump up balls, inflatables, etc. I keep it in the car. Have two of them. They go on sale for $99.00. I got one for $90 from Home Depot. Price match/beat.

Dahua and Hikvision are 2 of the biggest camera manufactures in the world. Many companies buy from them and re brand them.

EmpireTech Andy is a guy based out of China who sells re branded Dahau camera's to people in the west. They come with English firmware. His prices are really good shipping is very fast and I have not been charged duty the 2 times I ordered.

Many brands have moved away from OEM’ing from those companies and for very good reason.

Banned by the US gov’t https://techcrunch.com/2022/11/28/fc...dahua-ban/amp/

I also know of Canadian gov’t entities who won’t allow those products on their networks and that list is growing.

Cot Dam.............. went to Brentwood London Drugs. They didn't have any Avocato (cute play on the word). Manager told me it was very very popular. Sold out immediately. She looked up the item to see if any other locations had any left. I had thoughts of risking my life by going to the land where C-Lai's jump the curb and smash into stores............ Thankfully, Lougheed location had some left. I raced down there to get a couple. They are so cute. Anyway, forgot about the Fast & Furious Lego. They were supposed to have two. Well, they were MIA, like in, stolen. Same thoughts of C-Lai drivers came to mind. Then, the customer service guy there goes, "Hey, it looks like Brentwood has 20 of them in stock." Anyway, went back to Brentwood and got it there, gulolol. Most things like bobbleheads and Funko Pop never get it right. Nowhere near what the real thing looks like. Not with this Lego set. The character looks pretty much like whatever his name is.

Badhobz 08-06-2023 04:42 PM

It’s a good tribute to Paul. And reasonably priced. Most average lego sets are like 80-100 bucks and totally overpriced. Then you got the batshit crazy ones that are 500-1000 bucks. I think for 30 bucks this is the best set ever.

I’m surprised you’re so dedicated to buy avocato. It’s cute and totally worth it with the 60% off sale.

Im not sure how London drugs is surviving this retail apocalypse. I guess by stocking up on these Nick nack weirdo crap. Retail spaces like theirs can’t be cheap to rent and considering the low dollar amount of the average transaction there, they can’t be doing that well financially.

MG1 08-06-2023 06:18 PM

They scour the world for stuff at ridiculously low prices. Then they sell it at just above cost. They've survived by being smart. With 60% off, that stuff is what it should have been priced at in the first place.

London Drugs had its start in the DTES. I remember going to the then flagship store........... well, the only one. The One Hour Photo Finishing put them on the map.

A friend (caucasian) asked me why asian stores were so successful and why prices were so low compared to everyone else. $50.00 item Caucasian stores sell the shit for 100 bucks making lots of profit, but only selling ten items. Asian stores sell the same item for 75 bucks, but sell hundreds of them, because everybody loves a bargain.

donk. 08-06-2023 08:08 PM

Who's to say the Asian stores make more money, show me the data

Coming down pretty good. Forecast said rain Tuesday. Possibility of rain overnight no more than 1 mm.

At least no need to water the plants for a couple of days.

Is it just me or has the difference in gas prices between stations rather large recently? At any given time of day prices range between different companies and locations, maybe 3-5 cents sometimes slightly more. However, in the past couple weeks I've noticed a difference of 15 cents being very common. I ain't talking Super Save either but between the big companies. 2 weeks ago when I filled up at Chevon located at E 1st ave and Nanaimo it was x amount, within 10 mins as I drove South I passed by a 2 Petros and 2 Chevrons and they were 15 cents more. Tonight again I drove by a 2 Chevrons and 2 Petros both at 205.9 and ended up passing by Chevron at Marine and Main which was 189.9 all within basically the same timeframe. I'm not one to shop for gas, I usually just gas wherever but at a 15 cent difference that'll make me think twice.

unit 08-08-2023 07:02 AM

the super save on 12th and clark always manages to be the cheapest in the LM.

2 weeks ago i got gas there for $1.77, elsewhere we saw anywhere from $1.89 to even $2.03 in the same night. i'm not one to drive around looking for cheaper gas, but $0.30 difference is pretty staggering, that's a difference of $16.50 when filling 55L.

Traum 08-08-2023 08:27 AM

I passed by the Marine & Main Chevron last night and I saw the 189.9 sign too. Sucks that I just filled up 2 days ago at 204.9, so I was kicking myself hard when I saw the sign... FailFish

Is there any studies on super save vs shell

Badhobz 08-08-2023 10:45 AM

yeah super save, saves you money*

*Warning, usage of super save gasoline might potentially cause irreparable engine damage and / or spontaneous combustion of humans. The term saving money might not actually yield any savings as mysterious ethanol mix ensures that you receive less gasoline than competitors.

Vs Shell

Which is FERRARI FUEL and Top Tier Gasoline#

#Warning, Shell paid endorsement to Ferrari and Top Tier ranking based on a study of gasoline manufactures to drum up hype by circle jerking around their own products.
