The million dollar fountain at Aberdeen is gone ...what has this world come to ??!?

whitev70r 08-09-2023 05:05 PM

Damn ... huge & fast forest fire in Maui , Hawaii. Six people died and main street incinerated businesses and houses!

I'm sure it was just (temporarily) covered up for the VR event.

But it also seems to me that Aberdeen has been going hard at hosting different events in that open area lately. I'd say it's better usage of the space.

Asking for a friend, how much should it cost to install lowering springs + wheel alignment on a 2023 BRZ? A few shops have quoted anywhere from $600-1000+

Is this the going rate these days?

LOL, I feel pretty stupid right now. Opened the 4 record set, Red, by Taylor Swift. Started up the player and I was like, boy this record is quiet. Wait...... how come a man is singing? Moved the stylus over to the next track. Same thing. Then I realized her Red album is a 45 RPM, 12 inch record. Nice! The sound is pretty impressive for something from Target. The album is Made in France, BTW. The songs are all described as "Taylor's Version," whatever that means.............. I'm so not a Swiftie. Also did not know every song is written by her.

That's a horrible space for events though, the echo chamber effect is so strong, you can't hear shit if they decide to use any kind of loud speakers, you just hear it echoing.

There was some drama I think where her old record label "owned" her songs so she couldn't play them or anything. She re-recorded and re-released them once whatever timeline ran out, hence "Taylor's version".

I'd have a hard time paying much over $600 to be honest... an alignment alone is $140+ at any decent shop, but $450+ for the spring install itself is getting up there... how many hours are they quoting? I would think a 2023 BRZ would be all minty and have no rusty or stuck bolts, so 5hrs+ seems like a lot. Should consider doing the job themselves and just getting the alignment after.

68style 08-10-2023 08:49 AM

So, my 2004 Lexus IS300 sat for a couple of years before I started driving it more often in the last year or so... and since it was parked, I notice a light smell possibly like a moldy smell when I turn it on and the vents first start blowing. It goes away (or I can't notice it?) after a minute but the initial experience is obviously less than appealing.

Anyone with a similar issue had experience with a shop or process to clean up or sanitize their ventilation system?

Yeah... we're kind of sus on those rates. One shop just quoted the total, another shop quoted 6 hrs. These are well known shops.

I paid about $280 for my install back in 2016. Different car and different era, but I wasn't sure did inflation really hit that hard.

whitev70r 08-10-2023 09:30 AM

I've had it done at local shop like Garage5 and they quoted x number of hour which was close to $450-$500, I'd say 3-4 yrs ago now. I've often wondered if they go by book hours ... I just can't believe a shop with lift/hoist, right tools it would take 6 hrs for 4 corners.

I know there's a cleaner you can blast on the condenser to get rid of all the mildew and gunk that builds up on them, maybe start with that? Or get an ozone machine and run it with the fan on high (and you not in the car).

Gerbs 08-10-2023 09:59 AM

I'm surprised alignment is $140+tax now. The $80 - 100 days are gonezo.

G5 is like 4 hours @ $125 = $500 + tax?

whitev70r 08-10-2023 10:04 AM

^ man, it's like corn. I see some at $2 piece at Farmer's market and even some grocery store. WTH happened to like 3 for $1 ??

Inflation is for real.

Liquid_o2 08-10-2023 10:07 AM

Fruiticana has corn 4 for $1 and Richmond Country Farms is always affordable for corn as well. Just have to know where to look for it!

unit 08-10-2023 10:22 AM

yeah i bought corn for like 50c the other day, it's still cheap just not all the time and everywhere

Toyota sells an official condenser refresher kit but I think you can get the same result using Lysol spray and spraying the cabin air intake and all the vents. I did that and it cleaned it all up

I've done the lysol thing and it worked once (out of two times) for me. I have an ozone machine that I got off Amazon that I'm going to use on my RDX this weekend as it has a bit of a musty smell to it that I can't seem to get rid of. You're welcome to borrow it - just hit me up on DM - much cheaper than taking it to a detail shop especially as you only need to run it for an hour.

I tried to install coilovers myself and couldn't work through the rusty components since I bought a 10-year-old used Alberta car so I ended up going to one of the forum sponsors for it last month. I was quoted 5 hours for installation × $140/hr plus additional for alignment over the phone.

They ended up taking 6 hours for the install and 2.5 hours for the alignment.
8.5 hours × $140. Since it's a brand new BRZ, it should be easy for DIY though.

I felt like it was worth it despite the high labour cost because my shocks were very aged and there was no way I could have worked past the rustiness in a reasonable amount of time. The ride now is definitely a lot better over bumps.

bcrdukes 08-10-2023 03:29 PM

donk will do it for $200

Every Thursday, I go to Burnaby Now office on Brighton Avenue to pick up the local papers that come out on Thursdays. Burnaby Now, New Westminster Record, and Tri-City News. I love thumbing through the ads. Well, there were signs up on each of the newspaper bins stating, "This will be the last copy of xxx." Damn, sign o' the times, I guess. Where the hell am I going to get newsprint to wrap my compostables, like fish guts and whatnot. What am I going to clean glass with?

There's something about thumbing through ads. Digital.......... go blind, I will. It's like vinyl. Digital is better in many ways, but.......... People would much rather read a real book than digital copy. /rant.

A waffle weave microfibre cloth and some Invisible Glass? I just demo'd this combo on a friends' stairway just this weekend and they were super impressed.
