I’ve been tempted by the big single montitor but I feel like my work is better with multiple monitors when I can snap things to each monitor

When you have a big single monitor like this can you snap things to quadrants if the screen?

yeah it goes to half'ies so it'll be effectively split-screened. But you can do more if youre using windows 11. you can snap to 1/4 screen if you like

I'd argue that a single widescreen is great for gaming, but for work, it's better/easier to have two screens - you have the option of switching them between portrait & landscape.

You can also check out PowerToys. It has has a function called FancyZones that allows you to set fixed-areas for windows. Drag and drop windows to those areas with a hotkey.

not sure if its possible but you'd need a 4k monitor and when its in 4 quadrants each quadrant would be 1080p. i use two 20" monitors at work @ 1080p. if you had 4 quadrants you'd probably need a 40" monitor to see everything clearly without straining your eyes. "large" monitors are usually like 31", and i think it would make each quadrant way too small. i'd rather just get a 2 or 3 monitor setup with 20-24" monitors, then i wouldnt have to look up to see the upper quadrants.

Yea currently using two 27” at home

They aren’t the greatest monitors but I was able to scoop up the second one of the matching monitor off marketplace for nothing.

I’d like to use the large single monitor before buying it

I use this monitor for work with FancyZones - keeps all my windows organized and I can switch between different custom layouts depending on what I'm doing. Without Fancyzones I'd be resizing windows all the time with my mouse trying to line everything up.

I’ll try fancy zone tonight. I upgraded to windows 11 last night just to try out its new snap features and it’s pretty good.

The only downside to this 49” monitor is that you need a big friggin desk. Even on my huge ass desk it feels kinda small. Also for such an expensive monitor, it doesn’t have speaker built in. Kind of a bummer.

Speakers that are built into monitors don't tend to be all that good though. For simplicity, a soundbar is probably what you'd want. Or if you have expectations when it comes to audio quality, you'd want to pick some fancy 2.1 system.

I think the rationale for not having built-in speakers is that the buyer of a $2,000+ monitor probably has a decent set of speakers and/or headset he/she is using already. Plus like Traum said - the built-in ones usually aren't that good.

Logic is sound. I got a 2.1 setup already but it’s just adding more clutter to my desk (all the SpongeBoob toys don’t help either). Was hoping it’s like apples Pro Display monitor and have built in speakers

There's many apps out there for split screen snapping.
My work uses DisplayFusion. I'm personally using RTX Desktop Manager.

It really depends how you want your setup to be, and if it's for work, it depends what kind of work you do. Some people make use of the option to have a secondary monitor in portrait. Some other type of work may have no benefit from that.

Then there's the resolution, 1080p, 2k, 4k, etc.

At work I have a 2k (5120X1440) 32:9 monitor. IMO, it's too wide to effectively use as a side by side monitor. It feels like I have to make an effort to turn my head to see edge to edge. My head has to be turned more when I focus on the primary screen, unless you want to reposition your monitor off centered so your primary screen is more directly in front. But that's an aesthetic thing you may not like. I like to center my content dead center at 3440x1440. And use the remaining sides for stuff like teams or files, etc. I have a laptop that I use as a secondary "monitor".

Games are awesome for the immersion in a 32:9, but also keep in mind HUDs will be far off into the corners, out of your peripheral vision. I think some games can reposition them closer as if you're on a 16:9 monitor, but not sure if that is a common feature in games.

Definitely go to Best Buy, Canada Computers, Memory Express, etc. and try using one if they're available before you buy. You can also try looking at 21:9 ultrawide monitors.

Are they 2k or 1080p? Changing to 2k monitors is a great way to get way more working area without physically getting a bigger monitor.

TL;DR Work was great until his department was outsourced. Got a shit manager on his next position, got sick, Telus owns their own short term disability provider that pushed him to go back to work causing more issues. Got a package where his end date was Oct, union got it moved up to Aug and he's glad to be out.

But telus has great friggin internet though..... like when i was with shaw, i paid for a gigbit line and barely got 250-300mbps down and like a shitty 50-80mbps up. The only time it was ever close to 1000mbps was at 3am and torrenting lesbian scat porn

But with Telus its always a consistent 500 and its usually over 500 for both up and down. So now im paying less money and getting faster overall internet.

I remember coming home one day at my old place, and there was Telus people at the front door trying to sell plans to everyone that walked in.

Almost no one needs over 150mb, the slowest Telus now offers on fiber is 300 I think so even when you’re paying for a slower tier you get 300

Hate Telus as a company but given I had unlimited access to all the hardware when I worked there, my home setup is pretty much perfect. So I’m very hesitant to switch even though Shaw worked perfectly fine before

No way a speed of 150 Mbps is enough if you have more than 1 person actively using Internet.

I downgraded my 500 connection to a 300 connection 1.5 yrs ago to save a few bucks, and I have been regretting it ever since. When both me and my wife are WFH, the response time in my remote window is less responsive just enough to the point where it is noticeable. It was never an issue before when I was on the 500 connection.

also if youre running any IP cameras or security crap that's internet based it'll slow down quite a bit.

There is no slowdown on fiber.

You can be downloading a game at 120mb/s and you run a speed test and you’ll hit 150.

The issue isn’t that back bone, it’s more likely the way you’re connected. If everything you have is hardwired there shouldn’t be any slowdown

I will agree however that if you have everything on Wifi, the more wifi that’s being pumped out through your home, in theory, the bigger the pool of data you can pull from
