I downgraded my 500 connection to a 300 connection 1.5 yrs ago to save a few bucks, and I have been regretting it ever since. When both me and my wife are WFH, the response time in my remote window is less responsive just enough to the point where it is noticeable. It was never an issue before when I was on the 500 connection.

Something has to be fucked if you're needing that much bandwidth to run a basic RDP connection.

those telus wifi add-on pods (mesh system?) are also really really strong. For the new place we added in 4 pods and i get super insanely strong wifi signal everywhere. Seems to work even better than my google mesh router system.

+1, when I moved into an older place in Coquitlam, the only option they had was Telus Copper that topped out at 30mbps. Even then I was able to run Zoom calls simultaneously with my partner with no issue, even with 2+ dozen IoT devices on my network (including wifi cameras, etc).

When they installed fibre, the lowest speed available was 75mbps, but I was grandfathered with my pricing plan on the 30mbps but with the higher fibre speed.

Experience no issues with video conferencing and work calls.

I have heard this before, mostly from phone users

Why is it so important that you get an instantaneous response? Not shitting on you, just curious

People sit in traffic for 2hrs each day, wait in line for a big Mac for 8 minutes, spend 35 minutes scrolling on Netflix before they find the show they want to watch.
But for some reason can't handle a 1 second or greater wait time for an internet page to open up, or next cringetok video to load.
120$/mo for internet, 95$/mo for cheapest phone plan at telus.....Jesus

I'm on a 40mbps plan at home, and a 10gb phone plan?Gf can stream the tv, I can game, and be on my phone wifi in the same time without issues at home.
Yeah sometimes it lags for a few seconds to be honest, but nothing that makes me want to call in and complain. Especially when the Telus option is an extra 105$/mo more

If your downloading/uploading porn, or large "work files" on the regular I would understand. But it seems as most people have a stroke if their internet/phone is a second slow

PS, those of you on massive plans. Run a Speedtest from Google. Make sure you are actually getting what you pay for. If you are not, like underscore said, there is something wrong.
40mbps is more than enough to run 3 devices without issues for the most part

It is not an issue if I were just browsing the web or even watching YouTube or streaming videos. What makes it awkward is when I am logged into work remotely, and I am interacting with stuff at work, and there is just this tiny little delay in everything you do that throws you off, and the amount of delay could be slightly different too.

With this being RS, the best example I can think of right now is the difference between driving a good NA car vs driving a good turbo car. The throttle response between the two is just different, and if you are expecting the instantaneous NA response, but you ended up getting a tiny amount of turbo lag, it's gonna throw you off. The difference is not important if you are just rolling around on the street, but if you are doing an autox run, or if you are trying to do an evasive maneuver, it becomes noticeable and gets a bit annoying.

.

Nah, I understand

I call Texas often off my work phone, and there is literally a 3-5 second delay before the other line responds. Each time you talk. Gets really awkward, really fast lol

You adopting? :alone:

AzNightmare 09-19-2023 04:16 PM

It really depends on your lifestyle and what you need. I only have 4gb on my phone because that was the plan I signed up with like 7 years ago and I only need 1gb a month. My rate has been under $40 for the longest time, so I'm happy with that.

I was on Telus 150, but had to upgrade to 250 since I renewed my contract and that's now the slowest option. But just for browsing and watching Netflix, it's perfectly fine for me.

Some people need more, some people simply just want the best. But whatever your situation is, always negotiate and never pay full price for these services. I can't believe how much money people are losing by just going with the "deals" they see on the websites.

Badhobz 09-19-2023 05:33 PM

internet speeds sounds a lot like those chinamenz who buy the highest model of cars just because it has a bigger number on the rear end. Bigger equals better apparently

Hondaracer 09-19-2023 05:43 PM

There was never a single person I ever installed gigabit internet for that needed/used it period.

Everything throttles you. Whether it’s game networks etc. even YouTube upload throttles you. The download speed was -never- needed

There were a handful of people who legitimately needed fast upload speeds, but even then that meant a difference of minutes, not hours.

Even zoom throttles you and your subject to the slowest connection showing their face

sonick 09-19-2023 05:52 PM

Yah if you read the FAQs zoom uses something like max 8mbps for full HD video conferencing.

Guy buys STI, finances it at 8.99% for 7 years!!!

I've done what I consider somewhat dumb stuff with my car spending but it's always interesting to see what others do.

Razor Ramon HG 09-20-2023 11:44 AM

Lol, I laughed when everyone knew what car it was from the engine blowing up comment in the original post.

8.99 is peanuts, I knew someone on a 25% loan and he thought it was a good deal

donk. 09-20-2023 05:14 PM

He belongs on Reddit

HoW dO I gET out Of mY cAR loAn?!?!?

You sell the car.

Badhobz 09-21-2023 07:01 AM

Historically you either leave it in Surrey for it to get jacked, or you race your dumb shit friends and get it written off. Not sure what the kids do nowadays, but all my friends who wanted out of their auto loans did one or the other above.

Yeah you could sell it… but that’s so pedestrian

68style 09-21-2023 07:43 AM

Hahahaha that reminds me of this guy I knew like 25 years ago who had an old RX7 that was busted up and he couldn't afford to fix it and nobody would buy it, just wanted to write it off and take the $ and run... he decided he was going to drive it into a tree and spent like an hour psyching himself up to drive this thing into a tree, taped a pillow to the steering wheel and shit...

He finally decided his way to do it was he as going to get it going toward the tree with the driver door open and then when he was close enough he was going to jump out and roll to safety while the car hit the tree like some action hero hahahahaha pillow became the backup plan if he got tangled up getting out.

So he finally decides he's going to do it, we're all egging him on, he takes a couple of practice runs and he's driving so slow and we're like GO FASTER YOU MORON and he guns it and last minute he chickens out, swerves away from the tree, knocks the passenger mirror off on the tree, hits a big bump on the grass and comes tumbling out the drivers door, almost gets run over by the back wheels and then the car went by itself down the road until it hit a curb... hahahahaha even to this day I can't stop laughing every time I think about it.

He chickens out and decides to drive home, on the way home a police car pulls him over and gives him a ticket for not having a mirror lolol

Badhobz 09-21-2023 08:32 AM

thats hilarious! i hope you all called him a pussy afterwards

my buddy had a old Altima (like 2000) and he left it in Surrey near whalley to see if it would get jacked. He left it unlocked, and even left a few scattered coins on the seats to make it look like it had valuables

NOBODY STOLE IT. He came back a week later and that shit was exactly there, but now with parking tickets on it.

he was so pissed

Yeah I feel it's not that common to get your car stolen. I've been in Surrey since 1989, I've live in Newton, Fleetwood and now Cloverdale the last 15 years and I legit don't even know anyone who lives here that's ever had their vehicle stolen in all the years I've lived here.

My dad had an enclosed trailer stolen once but that was the closest thing.

Maybe me and everyone I know is just that lucky?

Hondaracer 09-21-2023 08:58 AM

Grew up in Surrey as well and never knew a single person who had their vehicle stolen

Once or twice a ride ended up on blocks at guildford theatres though lol

Badhobz 09-21-2023 09:10 AM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bait_c...20since%20then.

Surrey was designated the "car theft capital of North America" by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 2002.[4] Their bait car program was launched by the Vancouver Police in 2002 and has contributed to a 55% drop in auto theft since then.[5][6][7]

i guess the bait car program works

donk. 09-21-2023 09:16 AM

Maybe work trucks are the new point of interest

We have had several trucks stolen at work, driven a few km away, then cleaned out. 10-30k of damage and stolen tools for a couple hits of the meth pipe

Let's give out some more safe drugs on Main and Hastings
