The painted nails comments remind me of when I flew back from Burning Man through Salt Lake City a few weeks back.

Every Burn we end up going to some random camp that does nail polishing and we get our nails painted, I ended up getting my nails painted black by some chick.

I'm in the Salt Lake City airport burning off 5 hours until my next flight, alone this time as my GF was on another flight, naturally I go sit at an airport bar for some drinks.

These 2 middle aged women are sitting across from me and instantly strike up a conversation. They both start flirting, throwing some compliments, then they see the nails and the faces change :lol

I mean, I see ads on Chinese WeChat groups or Chinese malls for whatever event listed as "Chinese (as the ethnicity, not Mainland Chinese) only" for things like meetups, blind dates, promo for whatever service... etc. Heck, you'd often hear Chinese people say "oh, caucasians are xxxx, Indians are yyyy..." all super racist IMO (generalizing/stereotyping about a specific group). But still... nothing. Never any news headline would say "Chinese stereotyping/racism against others".

Never ever has anyone raised a concern or feel that this is discriminative in any form or shape. It's just a specific group of ethnicities doing things together.

But is this case really about white supremacy? From what I read, I've yet to see anything discriminatory. It's not that the group is the breeding ground of KKK.

Seriously, I pity white people nowadays. Our society has become so fucked up that it's somehow wrong to be born white. When my son's caucasian friends come over for playdate/sleepover, I don't see anything in them other than the same kids' innocence I found in other kids who aren't white. And yet, they would bear most of the blame.

To dive a little deeper, to say they want a culturally homogenic group is generally acceptable. Say I want to have a Polish play group, an Italian one, a French one, because we want to preserve our culture and language in a place where it's predominantly English speaking, that's ok. To take your point Hehe the groups you listed are all countries or cultures, Indian, Jews, Japanese they are all specific cultures or origin, though I'd argue some groups of Indians(Hindus/Sikh) do not get along with each other, look at what's happening with Canada and India right now. White isn't a homogenic culture or origin. It would be like we are going to have an Asian only playgroup, when certain groups that fall into that category historically hated each other to no end, and some still do.

To say that I want a white only group, which when white could mean so many different cultures and things and even historically different cultures from Europe wanted to massacre each other, and the whole point of this playgroup was to exclude a colours of skin, that is NOT ok.


I agree with the whole problem that for some people being white has become a sin. Some of my white friends (actually one that came over for dinner last night) said he is super conscious that he's a white guy sitting in a Chinese family's home. We are both very un-PC but these topics come up and he's comfortable to joke with me about dumbshit but a lot of white ppl feel like they need to tiptoe around certain topics. I don't believe this is one of those, and imo it's a disgusting display of "we don't want you here". There's no place for that in Vancouver.

A study was done with kids, and to kids there are no idea of skin colour. A friend is a friend. The whole idea of racism is and detesting another based on the pigment that shows on their skin is a taught notion and it's in everyone's best interest to NOT continue to promote these ideas. I hate the idea that white people need to tiptoe around shit when Indians or Chinese comedians can dish out ALL the racist jokes and not get in shit for it. That's not fair.
