Chong Lee on Rupert and 22nd is open. Soft opening with Grand this coming Friday. First reported on chat by danned. Was prepared to give him a handle of McLyin but he came through. Place is every bit as good as it was before and better. Will have to wait how long it’ll be before it goes back to being a Wuhan Wet Market. Rice combo with two choices for $9.99. Ordered some char siu.

Oh, forgot. 2 hour free underground parking. Nobody there, because they can’t read the signs. Anyway, a good experience. Washrooms were clean and people at customer service were great.

MG1 10-21-2023 04:19 PM

They had the banhmi, but I'm not into it.

So solly...................

I miss Golden Oscar next door, 12am Baked Porkchop on Rice always hit the spot. It was my favorite here, I'm still looking for a comparable place that's makes it just as good.

Damn ... 24 hrs for another team to pick him up or, he goes back to Jaguars' practice squad. Man, Rourke definitely took the harder path, up and down, builds character! Hope another team sees his potential and picks him up. Surely, he's an upgrade to some of the backups out there.

Try the new place at the Parker Place food court. $13 for baked pork chop rice, or the 2 other baked rice/spaghetti options, and includes an excellent HK milk tea. They are all legit good. The only problem is -- the baked stuff can't be ordered until 11:30am, and they bake it fresh on order, so it's a minimum 20 min wait. One Saturday I waited a whole whopping 45min+ from shortly after 1pm until some time ~1:50pm because they were swamped. FailFish They told me at the time of ordering that it would be at least a 30 min wait, and I was not blind to the sea of people waiting around for their food, so I am not blaming the restaurant at all.

The Chinese name is 正斗茶記, and I have no idea what its English name is called. But it is a larger / longer stall on the side close to the exit, right next to the bakery.

Whenever I'm back in Vancouver I go straight to Mambo Cafe in Aberdeen food court to get my 焗豬扒飯? baked pork chop rice fix.

Are you saying this is better than that? Like if that were a 7/10, what would this be?

bcrdukes 10-23-2023 07:26 AM

2/10 :troll:

I haven't had baked pork chop rice at Mambo in a very long time, even though I regularly eat there every now and then. But the one at this 正斗茶記 in Parker Place, it is very, very good. I'd give the rice + sauce a solid 9/10, and they are not stingy with the beaten egg mixture on the rice. The pork chop itself I'd only give a 7 to 8 out of 10, since sometimes they are a bit on the fatty side for my likings.

The HK milk tea at Mambo tastes better, but it is also much smaller. The one at the Parker Place place is not bad at all, and the portion is larger.

Come try the new place out next time you're here! Be prepared for the wait though...

Can you call ahead to preorder? I do that for the Lansdowne food court because they can be ridiculously busy at times.

Traum 10-23-2023 11:06 AM

Yeah, they take orders over the phone, but I haven't tried doing that myself yet.
(and I should go find out what their number is)

The place at Parker is called One Cafe.

I'm not suggesting I'm a Baked Porkchop Fried Rice afficianado, but I am picky AF when it comes to it. I personally prefer the one at Mambo though One is easily second amongst all the food court stalls and cha chaan tengs here. Their baked curry chicken rice is dope.

RabidRat 10-23-2023 02:39 PM

Btw you guys know you can upsize the drinks at Mambo right?

What's your go-to for Baked Porkchop Fried Rice? Personally I enjoy the one at Joy Cafe on Cambie / SW Marine.

They already charge a lot for cold drinks, upsize it and I can't afford it anymore
