Hers is so bad though like you can’t use oven mits that baked a loaf of bread type thing.
Getting tested and confirmed for it is a very egregious process... you basically have to make yourself sick wheat products for while doing various tests... she just moved here from the USA just over a year ago so she hasn't yet...

Hers isn't tooooo terrible she just seems to get insanely tired and can't keep her eyes open if she eats any wheat products and if she eats a bunch at once somehow she has pretty bad intestinal issues.

She seems to be ok with trace amounts though... ie: possible cross contamination

Breakers can and do go bad, there's nothing special about a main breaker over a individual circuit breaker other than the higher current rating.
Also check the main feeder wires to the panel that they're properly secured and torqued down on the lugs.

Sorry Honda, there's no such thing as a "current coming in" problem.
The house loads will draw the current they want to draw.
The utility can't "push more current" down the line without cranking the supply voltage up to levels that would kill every electrical device in a house far before the main breaker ever tripped.

So this is where it gets weird - it happens when nothing is drawing major current (i.e. only laptop/modem/lights are running) or when the dryer is running and we are cooking something using the stove or oven. It's very random.

Does this happen to our neighbours - We're not sure. We've never had a chance to ask them because it happens so infrequently and we forget about it a few days later when we see them. I'll have to be vigilant to ask them about it next time. The last time it happened, it happened three times in a row when nothing major was drawing any power.

If the power drops to 100V it'll pull 12A. If you're getting lots of brown outs the increase in current draw might be tripping the breaker, but that seems weird unless maybe the breaker itself is defective?
We're unsure of the breaker itself is original (20 years) or if its been replaced. We didn't replace it, but we might do that as a next step.

Edit 1: Didn't see Great68's reply. Thanks for that. Will look into replacing the main breaker as good measure soon.
Edit 2: Didn't see westopher's reply earlier. We were running two vacuum cleaners in parallel and that tripped the main breaker after about 20 minutes of operation.

Watching the news of the 7.4 earthquake in Japan and got to wondering how well prepared folks are for an earthquake here. My preparedness varies from time to time as I don't often think about what supplies to keep handy but generally it's pretty bad. At least I'm reasonably handy as is my wife unlike some of my friends who can't even change a flat tire or do basic repairs around the house.

How about you guys? Anyone got an underground bunker and a year's worth of canned food?

^fuckkkkk noo. If the big one hits im hosed. I got a box of watches to grab and then good luck trying to get all her handbags and jewelry out.

Sigh… I had this idea of preparing an inflatable in case of tsunami but I think that’s just idiotic and likely will kill us faster.

I’m in Richmond anyways so if the big one hits just come loot around my fat corpse for watches. P.s if you see a white seal looking chihuahua, that’s moochi. She’s just really fat and you should save her. I’ll be eternally grateful

I’ve got a bunch of flats of water, easily a few weeks of food, always have 2 full propane cylinders etc.

I recommend everyone put a set vice grips on your gas meter shut off and just leave them there locked on, also put some WD40 of some sort of Lubricant on the shut off and make sure you can move it. That and your water main are probably the biggest concerns

I used to stay hella stocked but realized it was unrealistic, expensive, and wasteful.

Now I just make sure I have a healthy rotation of canned goods and instant noodles I would eventually eat anyway and make sure I rotate my stock often.

The only thing that I keep around that I don't use regularly is a flat of water. I rotate out the water once a year in the summer when I do more summer sports.

I live in a townhouse / row house here in the GTA. There's about 5 of us connected to I think the same electrical feed or whatever it's called.

Once in a while, the whole house loses power and trips the main breaker. None of the other breakers trip. This will happen randomly throughout the year.

We called in our friendly electrician and he's come over to help us troubleshoot using all his fancy tools and with us loading up the outlets and appliances etc and it doesn't come close to tripping the main breaker or any appliances. There are some random times throughout the year where power will go out for a split second and recover immediately, but these are rare.

We suspected it was the dryer but we replaced it a number of years ago but it's still happening. About a month ago, it happened while we were just watching TV and then poof, the entire house lost power.

Before we call the hydro company, anything else we can try or troubleshoot ourselves?
Any flickering of lights under no load? If possible you should get some voltage readings around the house at different outlets.

The real question is, are all 5 houses effected by this, or just yours?

This is the million dollar question. I'll have to find out and that would mean catching my neighbours at the right time.

The cold is coming soon to the GTA this weekend so likely I will find out in the spring, assuming I ever get to see them.

Edit 2: Didn't see westopher's reply earlier. We were running two vacuum cleaners in parallel and that tripped the main breaker after about 20 minutes of operation.
Things aren't always steady state. Once things have been running for awhile, it can warm up and draw more current. I had my power washer hooked up to an extension that was rated at 10A without really thinking about. It tripped it a few times before I doubled checked that the garage has a 15A plug and grabbed a higher rated extension. It would trip the 10A cord after it's warmed up from extended use and always after I've held the trigger for awhile and never right when I squeeze the trigger and the washer starts up, you'd think it draws more at start up but it didn't.

Was in the area, so went into Hard Rock Casino. Turns out it isn't a Hard Rock anymore. Gone are the neat memorabilia. It's now just Great Canadian Casino. I haven't stepped in the place for nearly two years. Entrance to parking lot has changed, so I had to go in via the street we used to street race on.

Speaking of street racing days, I drove down (literally) memory lane a few weeks ago. My daughter asked me if I could pick up some items from https://vfdfood.com on the way back from the US. I'll have you guys know I was the guy who found that street racing location. Port Kells was getting too stupid back in the day when all them high schoolers started coming out. Anyway, Glouchester Industrial Estates. Such great memories.

Also found the road by the Fraser River near Fort Langley. River Road, LOL.

very good point. breakers tripping often we look at the load being exceeded, but another way to look at it is an increase in temperature (for whatever reason) as a reason to trip and protect the system.

@bcrdukes perhaps try to recall and log what was being powered, if there's consistency to it perhaps it'll help trace it.

Update: Confirmed with my wife that she noticed when our power goes out, other homes on our block all have lighting, so it seems restricted to us.

Almost always, it's the dryer that's running and the power goes out. But even when it's running, we may randomly lose power for a second and everything is back and running, or on the random chance, we lose power completely.

No, we have a high velocity hydronic furnace powered by a Rinnai unit and the AC is off for the winter.

68style - I think my 20v portable air pump is dead. I need to contact Craftsman for warranty.

I have an old car and I have a bunch of devices hardwired to the fuse box. Like dashcam, backup cam, mini sub, etc. It's pretty cluttered in there with all the fuse taps. I read that using wire (T) taps, you can share multiple devices in one fuse.

Anyone know if this is ok? Like adding power for the devices with a T tap on one of the fuse taps?
