Has anyone in recent years driven from Vancouver to LA in late March, early April? I'm trying to gauge what the weather is like and how safe it is to drive from Vancouver to Los Angeles. I know historically, the weather is hit and miss in the Pacific Northwest from Seattle to about NorCal, and it can get sketchy with unpredictable rounds of rain, snow, sleet, ice etc. Vehicle in question is a 986 Boxster S on Hankook summer tires (Hankooks on a Porsche - criminal. I know.) Thanks in advance. |
I drove from Vancouver to SF in Late May and i still wasn't even that warm. I dont think in March is gonna be that enjoyable until you hit soCal. That orgeon coast drive is going to be pretty miserable in march/april |

RIP Looking to do some track days in SoCal. |
Weather wise you should be ok barring a freak snowstorm on the Grapevine or Shasta, but it's not top down weather until SoCal for sure. |
This is what I fear - the freak snowstorm in and around those areas. I'm okay not driving with the top down. It's ok for certain times of the day but for 12+ hours straight, I'd go crazy. :D |
that being said, the drive to oregon coast/norcal coast is spectacular. One of my absolutely favorite drives. Stay off the i5, go the twist route along the coast and just enjoy your time. All the little towns and villages along the way are super charming and the regional foods are all affordable + tasty. Mo's clam chowder is legit in oregon coast. Drive that avenue of the giants top down and be amazed at the wonder of it all. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ymoq332MMuHiD1A4A https://i.postimg.cc/6Q8Stz8v/IMG-4904.jpg |

It’s no wonder everyone just sticks to the I5 because everything else is just a weavy headache. Going from Portland to Cannon beach even it was wayyy longer than I expected because it’s such a weird route. I’m sure that’s how most of that route ends up being. |
It’s the weirdo little routes that’s the most memorable and fascinating. I5 is so boring. It’s only good if you need get there as soon as possible. |
Just got back from a 2 night backpacking trip on a beach in Sai Kung country park.. We took a taxi 40 minutes from the main village to some trails, and hiked to the beach, about 2 hours. It was a paved hike, but with lots of elevation change as you cross over 2 or 3 mountains. Considering how out of shape I am, it was like 8/10 difficulty after about 3/4 way through. For most people, maybe 6. Extra rough because for whatever reason I was only able to sleep for about 3 hours the night before. The views were amazing though. The weather was mostly sunny and dry, with wind to keep you cool https://i.imgur.com/GsfJxo8.png My view from camp https://i.imgur.com/LUufoY2.png It's actually not as remote as a 40 minute + 2 hour hike. You can take a boat straight from Sai Kung and be there in half an hour. It lands on the beach and you have to jump in to about knee-waist height and hope it's not too wavy or you'll get wet. This is how we got home, and it took me literally 1 hour to get home from the beach, including the boat ride and bus. Something about that felt strange, because the damn hike took a lot out of me lol I contracted some sort of bug out there, so I have been shitting my ass off since the moment I got home.. Thank fuck this didn't happen when I was out there! |
It's a chopper. Trucker hauling a chopper hits an overpass on highway 1. https://www.facebook.com/10005756154...60050663439291 |
