we thought about windows 15-20k, we decided to spray foam the home instead.

Probably thinking of me. She used to, left that 2 years ago. Her shop made heritage style wooden windows (Vintage Woodworks).

Not a lot of crossover with the companies that do the composite/vinyl stuff.

Primary clientele was designated heritage buildings (IE: They did a lot of buildings in Gastown, houses in Shaugnessey), or people with heritage style houses and bags and bags of money who were set on keeping the original look.

I dont know where this goes, so ill just put it here. I saw this on the LC lexus forum and holy shit is that ever brilliant. Put a ziplock bag around the oil filter and then wrench off and you get no mess!!!

Well that kind of takes the drama away from seeing how quickly I can pull the filter off and drop it while oil pours all over my hand... extra exciting fit he car was running recently.

Forbidden marinade.

I just crack mine open over the oil pan, let oil drain out, then remove completely. Minimal mess, and my drain plug is close enough that they both drain into the pan at the same time.

Having this convo with a friend, when do you guys think you can afford a car?

- Have the cash?
- 20/10/4 rule?
- Specific net worth?
- Certain Income?
- Yolo?

They got gifted a fat DP for their wedding on a $800K condo. He wants to buy a Datsun 240z but thinks he doesn't have enough.

- 5x the price saved
- Dual income
- No kids
- No debt, all current cars paid for
- SWE in FAANG compensation

I argued if you don't buy it soon, you'll probably never buy one or end up with it in your 50's to 60's. Plus the $40K you pay today, you'll get $40K when you're done with it and sell it. The repairs and maintenance will be your cost to play.

Damn, $40K is a lot for a 240z, but like you said, YOLO.

In this case, I would YOLO. Whether they will get $40K when they sell it is a different story, but at least you drove the car (at least we hope he will.)

Pre sure the Datsun for sale is owned by an OG RS member who pops in here occasionally unless it's changed hands since. He painted it with a paint roller IIRC?

Cars like that don't lose value unless you fuck with them a lot and in a bad way... so it's pretty safe $ wise.

Bad bet purely from a financial perspective would be buying a brand new car.

I dunno what he's worried about, basically just holding his $ in an object rather than in a bank account or some kind of investment. Actual cost to him is close to nil.

the only downside is you pretty much shouldnt drive it considering how old it is.

If you did, or it gets into an accident you....
1) die due to the shitty safety
2) diminish its value so much that youre upside down
3) start replacing parts that are not period correct and thus make it undesirable

Its cool in concept, owning it is another deal

I would say 240Z is in a camp of classics that you CAN go a bit off the wall mods wise and still be okay... so many JDM and restomod options... it just has to be TASTEFUL and professionally done hahaha

Has he already bought the condo? Does it actually have space for a project car?

Ditto on the storage space. When you have a desirable restomod or what-have-you, leaving it out in the open attracts the wrong attention and it's risk and exposure you have to deal with.

But if you're baller, then I guess it's a non-issue.

Ya bought a condo with the wife, late 20's, has 4 garage spots at parents. 1 Spot at the condo for the daily driver, 2nd spot rented for the fun car.

Now that you mention it, older cars you probably wanna leave in a garage while it mostly sits vs leaving it in the condo. But he'd be buying a running condition one for $35-40K.

Fucking do it man. You can't take it with you. Unless he NEEDS a bigger place soon or believes he does that really isn't a dent that matters IMO.

Then he should buy it. Store it at the parents for the winter, keep it at the condo and drive it as much as possible in the summer. Life is too short to drive boring cars any more than is absolutely necessary.

don't buy a classic car when you live in a condo unless you got 2 parking spots and a place you can work on it

fucking building managers will get so horny over oil stains, they are going to bukkake your classic car with notices and dollar store tape

That's what I said. I'm planning to do the fun2drive japan tour with the 964 turbo and R34 GTR. He's thinking about it due to cost $200-400.

It's odd to see how everyone is so unwillingly to spend on experiences and fun stuff, despite having the means to. Been trying to help them try to be less boring and take their money to the grave.

Go spend 5k of that money at exotics racing in Vegas and you’ll never consider buying a “fun” car again lol.. or at least that’s what happened to me

After driving Aventador, 458, GTR, I was like lol.. there will never be a car I could ever afford that would provide any thrill. And yea I get the argument you don’t need HP to have fun, but I’d wayyyy rather go on a crazy trip, or go golf some crazy courses than buy a miata and pretend it makes me happy lol

If money truly wasn’t an issue and I could get into a newer Z06 etc. somthing like that would be ideal as it could be a daily as well. But my days of ever wanting a project car or a weekend car died the day I took all these exotics out and was like ok.. ecen this isn’t as crazy as I expected lol
