If you have your checks, you would be able to link it up to paypal but takes a long time to process the payment without credit card, about a week.

Thanks to all the rain etc water at our beaches and lakes are extremely clean even Trout Lake! (Last time I remember people swimming in there was when I was a kid)

Water along local beaches cleaner than ever
You could even swim in Trout Lake

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A cool, rainy spring and summer has had at least one positive effect. The water along Metro Vancouver beaches has never been cleaner! Surprisingly, you can even swim in Trout Lake.

According to Vancouver Coastal Health, at this time last year, the fecal coliform count at the East Vancouver lake was over 300 (warnings go up at 200).

This year, Senior Environment Health Officer Shelley Beaudet with VCH says "[the] average is 123. Last week, it was 95. So it's quite swimmable!"

And even with those commendable numbers, it's still one of the worst places. So, why are we seeing such clean water?

"We've completed a lot more sewer separation," explains Peter Judd, City of Vancouver engineer. "So you're getting less sewer overflow going in and more pure water."

"The weather is cooler, so there is less boating activity and we believe that contrary to regulations, sewage does get dumped in from pleasure boats," he adds.

Judd expects things to get worse as the summer goes on. But right now, the water is as clean as they've ever seen.

"It's always a good time to take to the water in Vancouver. People need to be aware that east of the Cambie bridge, the water quality is not as good as elsewhere but overall, it's pretty darn good and you can see that from the marine life that's coming back into False Creek as well," he says.

You'll be able to tell if the water becomes dangerously contaminated.

"When there is an issue, we will definitely notify the Vancouver Park Board and the beaches will be posted [with a notice]. But, other than Trout Lake, there have been very few postings in the time that I've been in this position," adds Beaudet.

The cleanest of the clean are WhyteCliff Park in West Vancouver, Cates Park in North Vancouver, and Locarno Beach along English Bay. Not far behind are Second, Third, and Wreck Beaches.

No Frills in the morning when they open up. Superstore is a good place, but you have to be there at the right time, as they crush the boxes on a regular basis.

Cold beer and wine places and goverment liquor stores. I've had good luck at the private liquor stores, as well.

^ you have the lid upside down and then fill it. Put the base on and turn it right side up and voila!

Trouble is, I buy DVD's in 100 packs. The cake boxes are way too deep.

That only works for 25pcs boxes... for 100packs... I use them to put paper towel rolls in places like garage, laundry room... etc

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - More trouble for the RCMP; a Richmond Mountie has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The officer was investigated by Surrey RCMP following an arrest he made on January 26th of this year. Other officers at the scene brought some concerns to the attention of a supervisor and an internal investigation was launched.

In a written statement, the Mounties say the person who was arrested in the incident had to be treated in hospital, but the case is now before the courts and they are offering no further comment on the situation.

Constable Inderpal Bal remains on active duty, but under close supervision.

Yes, if you're referring to Yuffa's post, I can't believe I missed it, too. Must be because it was the last posting on the page.

International recognition for local Gelato maker
James Coleridge of Bella Gelateria wins two awards at the Gelato Festival in Florence, Italy

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - An international award goes to a local Gelato maker.

James Coleridge of Bella Gelateria in Vancouver has picked up both the people's choice and the technical award at the Gelato Festival in Florence.

Coleridge says his tasty creation has a very Canadian feel the Italian judges took to.

"The gold medal winning flavour that we took and made in Florence, Italy was a toasted pecan with sea salt. We also took caramelized pecans to put in there and then topped it off with Canadian maple syrup."

Coleridge adds the Italian masters were a little taken aback that a Canadian took the prize.

"Vancouver is a culinary hot bed in the globe and they've actually encouraged me to make these really multi-dimensional, layering flavours," he notes. "I think they were a little surprised but I think they should be proud too because they did teach me in Italy."

Coleridge's creation was voted on by more than 200,000 visitors at the festival.

Do any of you guys know if we can buy any 3rd party iphone cables that plug into your car (the ones that split into 3.5mm and usb) intended for iPod control via your car stereo. Or if anyone has the pin-outs for the 30pin iPhone adaptor to usb and 3.5mm, that'll be fine too.

I tried googling but no luck. the $30-40$ price tag for the wire is quite steep!

Just remembered that I do have other uses for the larger cake boxes. Being a diabetic, I check my blood sugar levels on a daily basis. I use the larger CD cake boxes as a sharps container. I cut off most of the stem part which leaves a hole at the base. I put the cover back on and invert. Makes a perfect sharps holder for used lancets.
