2nd Gen with the USB-C. The sound isolation is solid, it's nice to switch between my iPhone/iPad/Macbook seamlessly, and the case doubles as an AirTag which is a nice bonus.

Edit: I've decided not to pursue them but still curious to read about peoples experiences with them. Thanks.

Android guy here but I've been using the regular Airpods since the beginning (Gen 1 and 2). The reason I chose Airpods in the first place was simple, fit. The galaxy and other ones didn't fit my ear well and the regular airpod fit my ear perfectly. In the almost 8 years of using them I haven't really had any problems. Occasionally it doesn't connect and I'll have to try a couple times and only twice in 8 years did I have to un pair and re pair them. Volume and audio quality is fine for my needs though I'm sure audio snobs would say it sucks but then again if you really cared about that you wouldn't be getting an airpod in the first place.

Noob question but can one try them on at the Apple store for size/fit? Kinda unhygienic but yeah.

Yes you can.

Suck on a door knob, donk.

Was browsing through my iTunes playlist to see what songs I haven't listened to in a while.

After all these years, nujabes still hits hard.

PeanutButter 06-11-2024 12:18 PM

This reminds me of when I was growing up and my sister would make fun of me for having wet ear wax versus her dry ear wax.

ATC did warn the pilot before takeoff, but left it to pilot's discretion

In the aviation forums it seems like Coal Harbour (and Victoria Harbour) both have non-standard rules with how planes interact with boats - there's been lots of debate and it seems like the local rules don't make a lot of sense (nor have they been enforced that way).

These are Port of Vancouver's rules: https://www.portvancouver.com/wp-con...rrardInlet.pdf

The specific part is that boats are to keep clear of the aircraft operation zone and be aware of landing aircraft but it doesn't specify what to do with aircraft taking off and elsewhere the rules apply to both landing and takeoff (the plane has right of way). It seems like using local rules the plane is at fault and using international rules the boat is at fault. Basically the plane is considered a boat during takeoff and considered a plane during landing and if it's a boat then it's at fault b/c the other boat was on its starboard side.

CivicBlues 06-11-2024 12:35 PM

It's a fucking miracle how everyone on the plane walked away unscathed. I mean the goddamn thing nose-dived and sank. Must have been traumatic AF. After all those turbulence incidents wear your seatbelts!!

The reality of that crash is it was like the Austin powers scene where he runs over the guy with the steamroller. There was so much fucking warning what was about to happen there was like 15 seconds for someone to make a decision and no one bothered.

Man got TBoned. Other driver ran.

Amazing that with all the boats, seaplanes, and water traffic there AND this loosy goosy rules that stuff like this hasn't happened more often or earlier.

Now, there will be full investigation and hopefully, some better rules and regulations.

I much prefer the Pro over the Airpod thanks to the tip being silicone, it's more secure. The sound is better too, and the ANC is a nice bonus. The switching between apple products is seamless, and the voice quality is great.

I was in a call while cooking and the other person could not hear the fan of the range hood, the cooking noises etc.

AstulzerRZD 06-11-2024 04:50 PM

TBH the Pro gen 1 and 2s still have a very mediocre microphone.
The Bose Quietcomfort buds are better but a lot less comfortable.

TOS'd 06-11-2024 05:32 PM

Anyone have/try the AirPods Max Over-Ears?

Hondaracer 06-11-2024 05:39 PM

Yea they are pretty good.. I’m almost up for a new set of over ear headphones and it will be a hard choice between the new quiet comfort or the AirPod max

For day to day use I have AirPod pro and they are fantastic, the noise cancelling is amazing and like most Apple products, they just work. Always connect to everything necer any issues, great for the gym, and battery lasts 4-5 hours with almost no deterioration so far owning about 2 years.

Apple definitely followed Bose’s model of “no highs, no lows” and as with Bose, it’s likely to save the drivers and provide longevity of the product. You can get your Beats etc. with the pounding bass but of course you’ll eventually blow out your drivers and they will sound like shit. My Quietcomfort 35 over years are like 5 years old now and outside of the wear on the ear cuffs, they still work and sound amazing.

For plane travel, I don’t Think the ear buds will ever compete with over the ear in terms of cancelling out engine noise

If you're talking about the ear pads on the QC35, I got replacements on Amazon and they seem to work just fine.

I used to bring my QC35s with me on the plane but stopped after getting the AirPods. I agree that the NC is better on the Bose, but the Airpods let me pack lighter and they cancel enough noise during a plane ride for me.

Hondaracer 06-11-2024 06:51 PM

Yea the packing is huge considering it either fits in your pocket or it’s the bulky case

The AirPods almost always die before the flight is over though as opposed to the 10+ hours of the QC35

roastpuff 06-11-2024 08:07 PM

The Airpods Pro sound quality and microphone quality is mid, but the convenience is the unbeaten factor. No fumbling around, no pressing buttons to switch - it just happens.

SSM_DC5 06-11-2024 08:29 PM

I don't use headphones and ear buds often, but was talking to an audiophile at work (previous job was a sound processor, but it wasn't steady income, so changed fields). I see him using Sennheiser at work, but when chatting with him, he suggested looking into Grado (https://gradolabs.com/collections/in-ear-wireless). They don't do many wireless, but for wired, he has no problem recommending them. Also, said Bose sucks cuz they cut out sounds. I'm assuming that's why they are known to have no highs and no lows because they sound bad, so it gets deleted.

Can't judge poor sound quality if it doesn't make it to your ear right?

donk. 06-11-2024 08:31 PM

250$ for airpods, jesus christ, a 45$ set does the exact same thing
