That area is a straight up warzone, but always consistently have the lowest price in the city.

OT: I need a new toaster. What can y'all recommend? (prefer 4 slice toaster that can bagel)

Can confirm. It’s miles ahead of regular toasters. I haven’t touched my regular toaster since I got the Mitsubishi one.

More precisely, it makes regular grocery store bread good and good breads from decent bakeries amazing.

And what else make it justifiable its price? It might get you pussies. I shit you not. My buddy got one too on a trip to Japan after trying it out at my place.

Once going out with a chick on a date, he asked the girl after their dinners to see if she wants to go to his place. The lady said “give me one good reason why I should go to your place on the first date?” And my friend replied “mhhh, I got the best toaster on the planet if you stay until breakfast”

:fuckthatshit:

They did end up getting married, so I’m not sure if that’s something one might want to consider.

I bought a collectible sports jersey(not new) on eBay, from a seller in Texas. I had had him send it straight to my buddy in Tennessee. now I'm getting a message in the tracking app that it's on hold as it's been flagged for duty/tax. wtf! can they do this? it's a used $40 sports jersey, and they want to tax me?

We are reaching out to provide an important update regarding your recent international order, currently being processed by DHL eCommerce. Upon reviewing your order, our systems have indicated that your package may incur duty and/or tax charges.

fuck . now I received an email telling me where I can pay the $10 they want. jebus

BTW, this is not a phishing scam, it's the real deal.

Badhobz 07-02-2024 06:04 AM

^SCAM!

Wait, how can they ding you for duties and taxes unless the shipper created a waybill that says the ultimate destination is Canada? If youre shipping within the USA, you shouldnt get billed for duties or taxes.

DHL is the worst. you will ALWAYS. ALWAYS, BUTT FUCK ALWAYS, get screwed for duties and taxes on DHL (for international shipments)

whitev70r 07-02-2024 06:39 AM

AI ... maybe somehow, DHL can tell where the source of payment is (namely Canada) and it's different than shipping addy. I dunno ... prob not that hard to figure out through logistics. I mean if I can think of it .. surely, a payment, shipping program can.

UPS is also notorious for charging ridiculous fees on international shipments.

But let's say I buy something from a US seller for a friend also in the US. Just because I'm in Canada, I have to pay duties on the package that stays in the US?

Edit:
Hang on... personal experience: I sell LEGO on a third-party website named Bricklink (BL); if I sell something to a buyer in California, BL will automatically charge the buyer tax, which gets remitted to California.

So in your situation, I think DHL is collecting sales tax for Tennessee, because that's the destination for your package. However if that is the case, how come eBay didn't charge the tax?

68style 07-02-2024 10:33 AM

DHL has gotten real interesting with their shit lately.

I sometimes buy/sell watches and was sending watches to the USA because the USA doesn't charge duty on watches from Switzerland.

Most watch manufacturers ship by DHL. The first few times I did this, no problems at all, got shipped to destination in the USA and no duties, no taxes, no problems at all.

2 watches ago, I shipped to USA, DHL started saying okay we have your watch here in the USA, but you need to give us a social security number or we won't deliver it. I was like, well, I don't have one... and why would anyone give you their SSN you're a fucking shipping company. Too bad so sad, they sent it back to Europe.

Most recent watch, DHL again, but I bit the bullet and sent it to Canada... same thing, they wanted my SIN number to deliver it and to sign something giving them power of attorney to make decisions on my behalf. Fuck that, I went to the airport and cleared it myself... who know what they were planning to charge me. Who do these shipping companies think they are asking for a temporary power of attorney and SIN numbers???

Long story short, dont use DHL, they're becoming insanely invasive with their asks and determing the origins of purchases. If you use USPS within the USA or even UPS/FedEx Ground I've never had any issues, they will never ever know, they'll just charge state tax (if there is one) and that's it.

A $500 toaster is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, sorry

68style 07-02-2024 01:48 PM

You can get it for less than 3 bills off amazon.jp

sonick 07-02-2024 01:51 PM

Not sure anybody knows or cares, except maybe MG1, but RIP long-time CBC Radio Vancouver personality Rick Cluff. For a few years I listened to his Early Edition show as my morning alarm: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...s-74-1.7168424

Edit: Just noticed MG1 hasn't posted for over a month. Hope he's ok, and just on one of his self-imposed breaks from RS.

Anything over like $30 for a toaster seems pointless. It's TOAST. Who cares

68style 07-02-2024 01:54 PM

I watched a really long review of what it does with bread and I'm willing to try it, my gf has to eat gluten free bread and it's fucking awful... expensive and awful sawdust... if it can somehow toast the outside and keep it chewy on the inside then that's worth it to me so she doesn't have to feel sad every time she wants toast lol
