We got lucky and weren't affected by the flooding or power outages. I should probably look into getting a battery battery for the sump pump: seems like it's when you really need the pump to work, that's when you're most likely to have power go out. |
^ yah, once power is out, the trickle down effect is pretty serious. Cell towers don't work rendering your phone (if you can charge it somewhere) useless, ATM's don't work with either no power or no connection (=no cash, most of us don't even carry much cash anymore), gas stations go down during events like this ... oddly when people need it (imagine if your tank was down to 1/4 or near red!), if they do open, credit card might not work because of communication. Internet service interrupted. If you want to cripple a city, hit the power stations. |
Depending on where you are, cell towers do work when power is out. By design, most (not all) cell towers have backup battery or diesel generators on site. Of course, battery backup or diesel backup can only last so long. Quote:

I had to go to Kamloops late Monday night as a long time friend of mine messaged and told me he has very high brain pressure and wasn't going to make it, take care of his shit after and then he went radio silent. I called his sister and we booked it up after I put my kids to sleep. We arrived to him just barely conscious in Kamloops ER. The CT returned a big brain bleed on the left side and a small one on the right. The neurosurgeon operated on him and he now has a tube coming out of his head to relieve any continued bleeding, but he was mostly back to normal. We called his parents and they arrived and take over from me and I had to come back to my family and kids. The neurologists said he'll make a full recovery by a week and walking talking jumping like before, just with a suture in his head and minus some hair. My friend is 36. He's had a troubling migraine for the last 2-3 weeks and he was given a checklist by his sister (nurse) and he followed through with it in his limited cognitive ability and went to the hospital. If he went a day later the prognosis would have been much worse. This was not a stroke as he didn't lose oxygen to his brain, but it could have developed into one if he waited any longer. Just a PSA for everyone out there, age doesn't mean anything, there's no tough guy acts when it comes to health. |
Your friends kind of a dick. Hey I’m dying. Take care of my family and shit bai. That’s a helluva bomb to drop on a buddy. If I was dying I’d be like evofire come and fuck my wife. Okay bai. Lucky you can drive 40km for free on a 300km trip to Kamloops. That 140k bmw is worth it |
He's a single guy so he has no one really, just a dozen shitboxes. I took the M3 because I didn't know how long I was going to be gone for and I can't leave my wife without a car. |

More importantly, good to hear he will make a full recovery. |
I'm glad your friend will make a recovery, and I'm sure he'll have a different outlook on life from this experience... I recently caught up with a friend and she brought up a classmate dying in his sleep randomly one night. He was in his early 30s and nothing was found in the system, so he probably died from a brain aneurysm or untreated sleep apnea. Just tragic... |
EvoFire, First and foremost. Fuck you. I cannot believe this is the kind of bullshit you would pull off for a dickbag friend while you can barely come out to a parking lot full of internet geeks and jerk offs who get horny over the wrong colour of your car. If you've made it this far in my rant, trust that I am only kidding. In all seriousness, a shitty situation indeed. Hope your friend fully recovers. He's really lucky to have you as a friend. I'd do the same for Badhobz. :hotbaby: Quote:

He's getting discharged tmr. His parents and sister are gonna hogtie him back to Vancouver for his recovery :lol But I think this scared him a little and he wouldn't mind being around family just for a little bit. His bosses all came by yesterday to visit according to his sister, so work isn't going to be a problem. He's in a technical expertise role so it's gonna hurt them short term to not have him at work, but it would hurt even more to lose him completely. |
You a good bro EvoFire SeemsGood I would trust you to delete my search history and caretake my cars if something happened to me. |

I joked about how I need to clear his browser history, and she wouldn't know what to do with a gutted Yaris racecar and the other dozen or so shiboxes :nyan: |
Evo logic : I’ll take the white m3. It’ll get me to my dying friend faster ! Interior Cops: mmmmmm!!!!!!!! Jackpot. |
Any recommendations for a multimeter? Primary use is for some minor automotive and general household diagnostics. Don't need one that's made for commercial/industrial use. Looking for something that won't break the bank, but also not break after 2 uses. Thanks in advance. |

Goes on sale occasionally for like $18 or $20 |
Parkshore sends me a marketing email about some BMW M tour event and when I see the list of cars my first thought is how ugly the BMW lineup is now. If they had a manual M2 I'd be interested in going for a spin but that's such an unappealing list of cars. https://www.bmw.ca/m-ultimate-tour https://i.imgur.com/OCEgX8s.png |
At least there's no XM. Going to guess the surprise model is a M5. |
Any IT bros in here affected by Crowdstrike? :ohgodwhy: |
Just reading about crowdstrike. They fucked up big time. Whole companies are down. Sky news can't even broadcast. |
It's amazing the amount of fuck ups that happened for this to occur. 1. Update was pushed on a Friday (or Thursday depending where you lived) 2. Update wasn't tested and pushed directly to production (if update was thoroughly tested, how was it not caught?) 3. Update wasn't staged by geographical location and was released worldwide all at once There's probably more fuck ups you can add to the list, but those were the major ones that stood out to me. |
This is basically what everyone thought would happen for Y2K |
