Is this a thing? | It depends if it's a flex plan or modular. Do you know?
If not, and it's simply an employer TRAD plan paid without credits or cost sharing, then no.
If it's flex, you can move those employer paid amounts to HSA/PSA or taxable cash.
If it's fully employer paid mandatory plan for EHC/Dental, with no employee cost sharing, you might as well stay in the plan for travel insurance purposes, and paramedical amounts, you're not losing anything by staying in the plan.

EDIT: NM, damn you Civic. | lol sorry man.
FWIW on that trip we stayed at the Lake Louise and had dinner at the Jasper. Jasper is actually a 4* hotel and LL is 5* so it makes sense that it's cheaper. Even then the LL is very overpriced (much more so now) but the view is pretty much what you're paying for. Worth it though, at least in 2020:
Jasper is still fantastic though, worth the extra drive from Banff. Even so, it takes less time to drive from Vancouver directly (9h vs 10h) |

Alaska is unreal. The white pass / Yukon train route is epic. I’m not a rail fan / foamer but riding this train for 3 hours almost brought a tear to my eye. The majestic beauty is unmatched.
The conductor of this train invited me over to his house to drink with him once he found out that I used to be a conductor. Too bad I don’t drink anymore and my boat gotta leave
He gave me a nifty hat though. Rail road brotherhood is real

When i came back from my 3 month australia/asia bender, it was forest fire season over there. I remember landing in YVR, stepping outside, and just taking a breath of clean air. I forgot what clean air smelled like.

I imagine that is how things went down when Badhobz fought the Indian guy over the parking spot at KFC.

How much 3rd party liability with ICBC do folks here carry? I'm at $2m and noticed my brother carries $3m and it got me thinking if I've got enough or not.
This lawyer back in 2016 recommended $5m from ICBC and then even more privately: https://pushormitchell.com/2016/11/i...uch-is-enough/

Do your own research, don't take my word for it, but liability does not work the same anymore. Here's my understanding of it:
You can't be sued under the no fault insurance system, so the liability amount is no longer to cover running over a doctor, the only thing it's for now is if you hit a business, your liability is there to cover their operating losses while they're closed. You need this in Richmond, where you are bound to drive through the front window of a shop at some point.
So basically it's useless now unless you're totally incompetent. I don't even think you need $1M anymore.
Devil's Advocate: If you look at your breakdown of costs, $2M coverage is like about $30 if you're at full discount... so why not just leave it there at that price. It's not saving you anything to get rid of it. It used to be WAY more expensive when it was for personal injury coverage.

speaking of benefits, does anyone else find that benefits are shit now that practitioners are asking like $180/hr for physio, $135/hr for RMT, etc..?
back when these things were like $90-100/hr, a $500 or $1000 allowance was plenty, but now that they have gone up so much the benefits cover far fewer sessions.
if these things were not covered under benefits the prices would absolutely plummet. only because they are billed to insurance they just charge whatever they want.

Essentially TPL was to insure you in case you hit someone and they sue you for lost wages, etc. Now since most of the time they can't sue, there isn't much use for TPL other than if you damage property. Even ICBC admits this on their page for TPL.
I guess if you drive into someone's house or a business, maybe? Do correct me if I'm wrong though. I carry 2 million.

Getting out of control. RMT / Physio etc. Some practitioners can still be reasonable, but more often than not, the ones who bill directly often charge whatever they want, and you are out of pocket. I am careful on telling practitioners if I have insurance or not, just to test the waters.

Or maybe I'm just out of the loop, started seeing a physio recently for the first time in like 20 years and it's $100 for 45 mins so about $130/hr same as RMT really. $180 sounds wild not that $130 doesn't sound crazy already. At least RMTs don't have the tip option anymore like before unless some of you are still seeing it. Once prices started creeping a few years ago the place I go to stopped the tip option all together.

Depends on your risk tolerance, what is the chance you get into an accident, and also be the one at fault to pay the deductible?

So many physios are just bullshit too. I’ve probably seen 4-5 physios in my life and only 1-2 have actually addressed issues and seem to actually have the knowledge to assess things probably.
My RMT recently bumped her rates to $135 but I’d gladly pay more. Also helps when each individual service is broken up with my plan, spent almost $2500 on massages alone last year

There is an additional coverage that most of you high income broskis should get from ICBC. The one that covers future loss of income and wages. I think basic only covers you up to 80k a year. If you make more than that, it’s whomp whomp for you if you get into an accident and can’t work.
