Everyone here makes quadruple that on RS, Badhobz. How dare you insult them with an $80K salary!

Traum 07-29-2024 12:49 PM

IIRC, income top up coverage is for those with $100k+ income.

Gerbs 07-29-2024 12:49 PM

How are we affording 2 cars, wives and a house on $80K!

68style 07-29-2024 01:00 PM

or multiple wives if you're supa

When those 5 cars have a total value of under 30k? Lol

inv4zn 07-29-2024 01:38 PM

Income top-up is actually $113k gross, with no other income replacement coverage.

Badhobz 07-29-2024 01:43 PM

^what ? 113k is the limit ?! My insurance lady said I can buy more to top up but I’m cheap and refused to do so.

We're in the midst of working with a financial planner to figure out our finances for retirement etc and on Friday I let leak to my wife that if I were to die that she could immediately retire b/c of the life insurance policies and all the other cash on hand we have.

So if anything happens to me I want you guys to have my wife investigated. And for you to also check in on my girlfriend(s). Please also delete my 2nd Reddit, Instagram and TikTok accounts for me.

GLOW 07-29-2024 02:37 PM

now you have to let her take the 1st bite when she makes dinner, and when she's not looking swap the glasses of wine :ohgodwhy:

it'll be well planned and one of the gf's will be framed :ilied:

My understanding is with the new system, there's a lot less need for higher TPL as it was with the previous system.

Essentially TPL was to insure you in case you hit someone and they sue you for lost wages, etc. Now since most of the time they can't sue, there isn't much use for TPL other than if you damage property. Even ICBC admits this on their page for TPL.

I guess if you drive into someone's house or a business, maybe? Do correct me if I'm wrong though. I carry 2 million.

I was just wondering this the other day. Why pay more for higher liability coverage when we are now no fault. Parties can't sue ICBC anymore, so what's the point?

$2M seems like over kill, even for property damage, there's no way it's going to cost more than $100k maximum.

68style 07-29-2024 04:09 PM

Like I mentioned tho... $2M is literally under $30 for the entire year

So....... it's not really a cost factor

So I’m cruising by all these small islands and communities along the coast and it makes me wonder why the hell don’t I just retire there.

They look so quaint and picturesque. Plus if you wanted to come to the mainland it’s just a ferry ride over. Doesn’t seem so bad.

westopher 07-29-2024 08:39 PM

I'd retire there for sure, but until then it's a little too quaint.

Only if it has a direct ferry, otherwise it's a pain. My in-laws have a place on Saltspring and you go from there to Swartz Bay and then from there to Tsawwassen. It's a 30 min drive + wait + 25 min ferry + 30 min wait + 90 min ferry = minimum 3 hours to get to the mainland.

Of course if you can afford to buy a float plane you're good to go.

Pre COVID Bowen Island was a hidden gem for a easy getaway.

20 min ferry ride that operates every 45 mins, no reservations needed.

Once there it feels like any other island, completely away from the city

Nowadays prices for Airbnb's have skyrocketed like any other. We used to stay at these beautiful 1br loft cabins there for $99 a night before fees, now they're up to $225/nt during summer and they're booked fully the entire summer.

I'm very impressed with Sydney. As close to the ferry as you can get, beautiful quiet seaside town, 20-25 mins drive to Victoria as well if you need things in a city. Beautiful landscape. At one time, there was a ferry to take you to Anacortes/San Juan Islands area but Covid shut that down, but there have been talks of reviving it.

68style 07-30-2024 07:49 AM

It's kind of amusing that Sidney, tiny as it is, has like 3 antique book shops

edit: can't spell

CivicBlues 07-30-2024 07:50 AM

Sidney

I was wondering for a sec how the fuck you could have taken the ferry from Australia to Anacortes :lol

whitev70r 07-30-2024 08:16 AM

:lol ... yes, Sydney, BC !

GLOW 07-30-2024 08:19 AM

just like London.... Ontario

whitev70r 07-30-2024 08:37 AM

London, ON used to be quite nice small town, English flavour, half the city works for the University but I heard it's gotten bad in the core, poverty, homelessness, addiction, etc. They have good healthcare there though ... cuz UWO has a med school who is always looking for willing guinea pigs for new procedures and trials ... :lol.

Is Kingston any good? I heard they have water, islands, etc. But I saw a doc from CBC where all these small towns in Ontario are just filled with drug addicts ... it's the opioid thing.

GLOW 07-30-2024 08:38 AM

just like London, UK Kappa :troll:

bcrdukes 07-30-2024 08:41 AM

Was in London, ON for business recently. Place is pretty rough. I was in and out of there as fast I could.

OriginalJC 07-30-2024 09:04 AM

I was born and raised in London ON. I try to never go back :-D

supafamous 07-30-2024 09:27 AM

https://www.londontourism.ca

The London tourism site doesn't make it seem so bad. For a city of 450k people located in a decent area I'm surprised to hear it sucks.
