I've dealt with a similar issue many years ago with the city installing speed bumps in a nearby side street. It was clear to me that the city staffer responding to the requests is just a pawn meant to act like the city would listen to residents feedback, when their real goal is to dissuade you from doing anything that goes against city plans. It is also her job to prevent you from reaching her superior to lodge the complain when you know she was clearly not the decision maker, or even the one making useful suggestions.
With it being a municipal matter, I suspect you might have a better chance of getting in touch with a city councilor. But don't get your hopes up with that either, because that sort of work is being done by city staff. All that the city councilor can do is to follow up with the relevant department on your behalf for a bit. Unless your complain align with his political goal, or something that is already on his agenda, you are not going to get very far.
IMO the only way you'd have a chance to make the needle move is if you can mobilize a sizable number of people to all file the same complain as you do to counter the issue at hand (implementing traffic calming measures). In my experience though, far too many idiots think these traffic calming measures are good when all they do is make things worst. And by the time stuff has been built, it is often too late / too costly to reverse course. And then some of the idiots will start complaining too, all the while totally forgetting that they supported this BS in the first place. | The stupidity that was the 45th and Elliot intersection comes to mind. They tried to throw everything at that intersection and just ended up going back to a 4 way stop.
If ppl knew how to drive, a large roundabout would be perfect, but unfortunately ppl can't drive here.

For fuks sake. I guess I'll have to go door to door now and get signatures. What a waste of time.
I just can't comprehend why they need these measures on our streets when it's so far away from the volume. They sent me the traffic study and you can clearly see there is no measurable increase in volume in our area, no one cuts through our streets either. We're literally at the border of their designated zone.
The patronizing part is they have this other document that says how much community feedback they've gotten and how much input they have gotten from the community, as to say their decision is community informed.
It's just annoying when you ask them direct questions and they literally don't answer them or they say something irrevelant.
I guess that's not surprising though.

They should block 45th altogether, make everyone use 46th.
Clarendon was never meant to be this busy but once they connected it to 33rd, everyone uses it.
And Killarney/88 Market attracts idiots like moths to a flame.

Did you find Clarendon not that busy until it was connected to 33rd? To me, while there are certainly more cars on Clarendon now, the additional traffic volume just seems like it scaled up along with all other traffic in the city, and the increase wasn't due to Clarendon being connected to 33rd.
Back in the day when there was still a house there (where Clarendon connects to 33rd now), I thought people just turned on Clarendon to 34th, and then turn again on Nanaimo to get to Kingsway.
Killarney Market also attracts multiple groups of older Asian uncles to just chill, chat, and smoke there outside Starbucks and at the Chevron station tire pump. It never fails to amaze me that those Asian uncles are smoking right next to the gas station like it's the most normal thing to do LOL~

I guess we know where to find Badhobz and his crew during the daytime.
Joking aside - Yes, Clarendon was not as wild prior to being connected to 33rd. It was my secret route during rush hour, and now, it is rush hour 24/7! I'm exaggerating, but my point is I did notice the change.
I'm glad that corporate giant Starbucks is a place for seniors to hang out and socialize. They've done a good job in connecting the locals. Without these places, I don't think the community would be as vibrant.

I wasn't in the area when the connection happened, I lived in Burnaby at that time. Right now during rush hour, that 4 way stop is stupidly inefficient. 4 ways can't handle the amount of volume and they need to put a sensor/pedestrian control light there if they don't want to do a roundabout.

4 way stop or roundabout which people don't know how to use. Pick your poison!
Rant of the day: School sucks and a total pain in the ass as an adult le arner.
Question for RS: Anyone here specialize in M&A or currently with a Big 4 firm? Looking to connect. And no, I don't have a company to sell or buy. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a large covered area to take my son out for biking in the middle of the day so it's shaded from the sun or if it's raining, covered from the rain.
Anyone know of anything in Vancouver or Burnaby?

Ubc has some riding trails in the spirit park that’s shaded from run/rain with a huge tree canopy. Also there’s mulch on the trail so if the little man dies he won’t die so brutally.

Anyone know of anything in Vancouver or Burnaby? | Metrotown parking lot ... it's like a city in there ... but then you have other things to worry about there.
Any other quiet underground parking lot that you can think of? Way out in East Burnaby, the 2nd or 3rd level underground of Highgate Mall/Plaza with Club 16 is pretty quiet.

Anyone know of anything in Vancouver or Burnaby? | dunno how old your kid is or how challenging you're looking for, but central park is a pretty safe bet. trees are pretty tall. it's not challenging but the paths are wide and easy enough to ride on and not a lot of people getting in your way.

I second the Central Park suggestion for bicycle riding with your son. The trails themselves are wide and sufficiently smooth, with the majority of them being under tree canopy, so it is very well protected from the sun.

A busy parking lot isn't gonna work....
I would take him to Central Park, but he thinks it's creepy and I can see where he's coming from.
My old elementary school has a covered play area. I remember it to be quite large but then again I was small back then, everything seemed large.

Why creepy ? It’s only some girl who got raped and killed…. What’s so creepy about that. Plus his dads gonna be there to shout slogans at him about pushing the envelope and maximizing the pain.
He’ll be too busy resenting you to feel creeped out.

If I recall, there's a fair-sized covered area at Lord Beaconsfield Elementary that could work out for you and your son. I have a few friends who live in the area and I've seen parents take their kids there to learn how to ride their bikes.
There's an open space for him to ride around as well so it's pretty safe. If you need a quick washroom break, there's the McDonald's down the road at the corner of Renfrew and Grandview Highway.

Tyee Elementary School also has a covered area. I remember because my cousins grew up in that area and we used to ride our bikes there. Warning: The Google Street view makes it looks like a creepy place.
@dark0821 - I don't think EvoFire's kid is old enough to be riding BMX. I'll make sure to never buy a car from you.

seems most underpasses these days, big or small, has a mini tent encampment under.
