^ your unexpected 'holidays' is over ... officially.

Unless the union appeals to higher up in terms of courts.

Badhobz 08-24-2024 07:20 PM

Yes they said they will comply. Which is sad….. poor conductors.

https://teamsters.ca/blog/2024/08/24...-back-to-work/

Not as militant as the longshoremen. I guarantee if the longshore was faced with a similar situation they would defy the ruling. Especially it was friggin CIRB who declared them as non essential workers in the first place.

I don’t know how long it’ll take them to appeal this order but at least some shit will flow in the meantime.

The Vancouver Sun just ran an article on the sh*ttiest street(s) to drive on in terms of potholes. https://vancouversun.com/news/vancou...treet-potholes

62nd between Argyle and Borden
https://smartcdn.gprod.postmedia.dig...lj9t1XWszm6Xxw

Other sections that should receive honourable mentions:
Elliotte south maybe from 57th to Marine
East Kent from Fraser to Cambie

Reddit mentions a portion of Victoria, north of Hastings

What portions ruins your suspension?

EvoFire 08-26-2024 08:54 AM

Elliot heading south from 33rd is pretty bad. It throws the X5 around a lot.

They've been steadily fixing sections of Victoria Drive. There was a HUGE bump southbound right lane at 44 that was recently fixed, and a huge dip southbound 58th that was fixed a few months ago.

A lot of the big bumps or dips that go right across the road are due to shitty contractors that house builders hire. They dig up the road for the piping but don't fill it properly.

supafamous 08-26-2024 08:57 AM

16th between Main and Fraser has got to be one of the worst 5 streets in Vancouver. That bog makes that section rise up and down in awful ways.

Power outage anyone? north road area

Funny story from maybe last year or the year before, esp for those who are familiar with the Fraserview area (where at least a few of us live in).

For years on end, the roads around Bobolink Park were really, really shxtty, esp along Muirfield Drive. The whole stretch basically looked like the picture shown below. And Muirfield is a bus route too (29th bus, I think?), so I have always been surprised by how CoV didn't bother repaving it.

For some reason, my kid took on a liking to play at Bobolink Park at the time, and we started going there more frequently. But I was really, really annoyed by how shxtty the roads were. So one time I got really fed up, and took pictures of the whole stretch of Muirfield, and sent the pictures off to CoV Civil Engineering / Road Maintenance via email, and asked them to plan for repaving the road since it was part of a bus route. I really wasn't expecting anything, but a few months down the road, one time when we went to Bobolink Park again, we noticed Muirfield was being repaved!

It was a total surprise, and I certainly have no intention to take any credit for the roadwork that happened. But the incident made me think that at least some parts of the municipal gov is still working and responding to public conerns.

They repaved a significant amount of roads in the area, but the crew got lazy and did not repave the other speed bumps, so the new pavement ends right before the old speedbump. What happens now is everything is about 2" higher until the speedbump, which starts 2" lower, your car dips and then climbs the bump and it throws the whole thing like crazy unless you are doing 5

How about the entire stretch of venebles from the ice cream shop till the viaduct. Horrendous

With all the tax money collected you figure these guys would do something to fix the horrible roads. Why is majority of Richmond’s roads perfect? Yes it’s flat. Maybe that helps ?

sw marine drive sucks, Endowment lands sucks, south lands sucks… Vancouver is just horrible

68style 08-26-2024 01:32 PM

Well Vancouver's property taxes are EXTREMLEY low given how much the properties are worth... and didn't the city almost declare bankruptcy last year?

It’s about the same in Richmond. I still don’t get why they can’t fix the damn roads. Worst roads…. Ever

This street is wild because if you're travelling to east van from Richmond via Knight St Bridge northbound, Google Maps literally sends you down this street (vs 57th). I've ended up on it and then was like wtf i'll never take this route again. Turning left to Argyle is bad enough without a light, never mind the potholes.

Hondaracer 08-26-2024 04:35 PM

Higher and higher taxes, shittier everything, it’s really great

Richmond has way less traffic though so their roads last way longer - I'd be surprised if any arterial in Richmond other than Alderbridge gets similar traffic to a Vancouver arterial much less the secondary roads.

If you want bad you should visit Burnaby - it's not so much road conditions but road infrastructure. Lack of sidewalks, crosswalks, streetlights, and any form of traffic calming.

With construction of the new St. Paul's Hospital there, the City is not going to do any paving at all at least until the hospital is done. FailFish

I keep telling myself -- at least we're not Toronto LOL~

*GTA enters the chat*

Broken Roads
Salted Roads
Roads that take decades to complete and over budget
Congestion to the max
It's not that bad.

68style 08-26-2024 06:34 PM

Is Toronto the worst traffic in the world?

A new study has found Toronto has the third worst traffic congestion in the world, beaten only by London, England and Dublin, Ireland.

supafamous 08-26-2024 07:49 PM

Bad roads?

*Montreal has entered the chat*

Hehe 08-26-2024 08:04 PM

Yeah... West coast's road are Grand-Prix worthy in comparison to what they get on the East.

I remember visiting a friend's hometown (can't remember the name... somewhere close to Thunder Bay) in a summer when she went back there and it was on the way of our road trip... I broke one of my wheels in that town. And she said that's the norm. :fuckthatshit: I was like... why didn't you mention it knowing that we were coming.

CivicBlues 08-26-2024 09:08 PM

Don't forget, crappy roads = traffic calming in the eyes of many on Vancouver City Council. It's a feature not a bug.

Great68 08-27-2024 07:26 AM

I'm not sure what's more infuriating, rough roads in disrepair causing you to naturally slow down a bit, or Saanich's latest trend to repave a road and then drop the speed limit to 40km/h or 30km/h and add speedbumps on it.

:fuuuuu:
