Eggette? Been there a few years now IIRC. They just opened a new spot on Robson I heard. Will be surprised if they can last in DT.

Fuck like don’t know how people can afford to go out

Went to Parallel 49 last night, 3 drinks and a Pretzel, $65

Went onto a little new cafe down the street, 3 cocktails and a Burrata, $85

Then went to Resurrection Spirits for live music, had 3 cocktails and a plate of olives, $85

$240 for a handful of drinks and almost no food..

It’s no wonder all of these places are dead AF lol.. Jesus Christ

bcrdukes 09-01-2024 01:49 PM

Nice flex

Hondaracer 09-01-2024 02:02 PM

lol like I was actively trying NOT to spend money and it ended up like that

Badhobz 09-01-2024 06:33 PM

What ? That’s normal going out nowadays. 2 people can easily break 200 bucks for the evening and you’re not even doing anything special

Hell 2 bowls of pho at this place underneath Richmond superstore cost me 43 dollars. 2 stinking bowls. No appetizer. No drinks.

Hondaracer 09-01-2024 09:28 PM

The thing is like I’d rather just not go out at some point.

Funny thing is like on instagram and shit you see the stuff like “bring back $2 taco
Bell!” Etc. The prices for things now, are what they will be going forward. You’re not gonna go to a pub and get a burger and a beer for under $30 you will never get the value people once did compared to their income even 3-5 years ago.

noclue 09-01-2024 09:55 PM

Minimum wage is like what $17 now?
Remember when it was $7? And if it was your first job there was training wages for the first 200 or something hours lol. I remember losing a toonie and it was like 15min of min wage lol

$10pho and $5 extra value meal aint coming back

unit 09-02-2024 07:19 AM

p49 used to be only $3 for a beer 12 years ago when they first opened. those were the days. even in that time i remember thinking how insanely cheap that was, other bars were charging like $5-6 already. now there is way more competition yet craft beer is like $9 everywhere.

spoon.ek9 09-02-2024 07:54 AM

going out for food/drinks has been horrible for awhile already. restaurants really took the pandemic "inflation" excuse to the extreme. yet, they'll also cry victim when it comes to dwindling business. and of course, as guys, we're expected to foot the bill so girls just complain that you don't go out enough :lol

westopher 09-02-2024 08:02 AM

Stupid take. You feel like going through supplier pricing and P+L sheets?

https://blog.clutch.ca/posts/6-cheap...cars-in-canada

Cheapest cars in Canada that you can buy today - which one of these would you actually recommend to a friend or would be willing to own? Base models only.

I've never driven them but I don't think I would be embarrassed to drive a Kia Rio or Kia Soul around. They seem like a lot of car for the money.

underscore 09-02-2024 08:53 AM

I'd just look up which model doesn't have any major common problems and go from there.

AstulzerRZD 09-02-2024 10:00 AM

1) I don't recommend anything pre 2017 anymore because of crash safety improvements.

2) Need to consider gas and insurance - Hyundai/Kia/Nissan owners in US aren't kind to their cars so rates are $$

3) Kia does'nt sell Rio anymore, Forte/Soul IVTs have problems; 40k after 5 years of gas.

4) Hyundai Kona is 41k after incentive, 8 year EV warranty would be my pick. Free charging if you park downtown/Whistler/UBC makes parking "free".

5) Escape Hybrid (25k CAD, uses Toyota system), 2nd gen Prius Prime (20k CAD), or Ford Fusion Hybrid would be my other pick. Import a 2019+ ES300h (30k CAD) from the states if you must.

one thing i've learned with my 2013 sonata, while hyundai cars are a great deal, their OEM parts aren't cheap, and cost more than say hondas i've owned in the past.

bcrdukes 09-02-2024 10:44 AM

Interesting. I did not know that.
How does service cost compare to the typical Honda/Toyota etc?

GLOW 09-02-2024 11:20 AM

i mean i don't drive very much and much less these days with a hybrid work scenario... but similar, just do oil changes, brakes/tires when needed, change out whatever is going ... nothing terrible. though i know people with various horror stories like burning oil, 1 of my coworkers with a santa fe had to get the engine replaced ... fortunately i haven't had that happen.

mind you i also owned a v6 auto accord where the tranny blew up on me with only 70k kms on it so it can't get much worse than that i hope :lol :okay:

What new regulations after 2017 made cars safer?

Off the top of my head, I'm guessing small overlap test.

AstulzerRZD 09-02-2024 03:40 PM

Yeah - and not just the small overlap but both driver and passenger side small overlap.

The recent moderate overlap backseat test has been really difficult.
Manufacturers seem to have figured out the new side test.

Anyone watch Chestnut vs Kobayashi. What a match.

Spoiler!

Germany just elected its first far-right party since 1945..

This shows that people take immigration issues very seriously, and the "lefties" better deal with it. Populist politics can work if the main issue is big enough for enough people.

Value is there.

If you get it right as it is ready, it's pretty good. Overall, I would give it like a 7/10.
