Yep, travel between Vancouver and Richmond during the day has been f-ed for weeks for the reasons mentioned above. Best bet is to take Knight Street Bridge if you go during a busy period - it will still be congested, but not as bad as Oak or Arthur Laing.

When is oak going to be completed

I snaked through the side streets trying to get myself to Marine to get back on Arthur Liang, and there was construction along a long stretch of Marine, with cars backed up pretty much all the way from Arthur Liang to just west of Cambie. At that point, I said "fxxk it" and we headed home on Marine.

Passing by Knight Bridge, the on-ramp to Knight had a line up of cars stretching past the Indian temple.

Access to all 3 bridges were clogged. Gotta say it was my first time ever seeing that. FailFish

People have been avoiding Oak Street Bridge for the last few months because the construction was slowly moving along West Marine and also 70th. I believe the construction is right at the intersection of Oak and 70th right now so you can imagine what a shit show it would be. I've avoided that area entirely for the last few months because of it.

A lot of the traffic has moved to Knight and it's backed up almost all day long now.

Probably they think i can bike from Vancouver East to Richmond before and after a 12hr graveyard shift.

IMO the rain in vancouver is the biggest thing - aint nobody wanna ebike in the rain unless they dress patagonia year round

Richmond-Vancouver travel i think we should really consider rebuilding the Fraser St Bridge

Anyone ever noticed why Fraser and No.5 suspiciously line up?

Yeah I noticed it a long time ago, but that bridge was pre WWII?

It'll take them 15 years and 5m of consultations to even start doing anything

Wow.. Highway 1 eastbound 232 to 264 has been closed since 4am. There was a fatal accident involving a motorcycle and car.

What’s with Vancouver getting its shit pushed in by barges?!!

RabidRat 09-19-2024 07:25 PM

Wow, SFU is opening a medical school.

https://www.sfu.ca/medicine.html

whitev70r 09-19-2024 07:29 PM

^ yah, was in the news for a while now. They need more doctors so yah, more med schools would be nice!

RabidRat 09-20-2024 07:57 AM

I wonder if we could make a Bachelors of Medicine a thing.

Like educate people enough to be able to essentially diagnose the basics to efficiently gather data for legit family doctors. Like Tier 1 tech support for humans.

And be advocates of healthy lifestyles based on a real medical education, but not actually being licensed to practice for real. So kind of offload a lot of time that could be better spent by legit family doctors to handle the complicated stuff. They would now be the "Tier 2 tech support for humans".

Degree could also be used to go next into nursing or even full-on medical school after, or just leverage it as a general science degree and either do something in the bio / biotech field.

whitev70r 09-20-2024 08:40 AM

Yah ... it's called Google ... WebMD ... AI.

Seriously, there are LPN's, nursing school is only 2 yrs in some colleges, and Nurse Practitioners now to offload MD's.

Hondaracer 09-20-2024 08:55 AM

I’ve legitimately got better health advice on instagram than some “professionals” have provided me.

With that said I think the majority of temporary foreigners and their ailing family members could be diagnosed and sent home by nurse practitioners as opposed to clogging up ER’s for days

MG1 09-20-2024 09:56 AM

How about charging foreigners full price on health services. If a Canadian that has been out of the country for more than X years, or better yet one's who have never lived in Canada, like tourism babies, pay full or partial cost of services. When push comes to shove, people who've lived here all their lives and have paid into the system should get priority over one's who've never stepped into this country after they've been born here. There's no simple solution and obviously case to case sort of thing.

Like I've posted before, there are three times as much Care Cards (whatever they're called these days) as there are bona fide citizens in BC. We need to crack down on these free loaders. /rant

LOL, it's becoming a business............

https://canadianimmigrationexperts.c...%20visa%2Dfree.

approximately ten grand............. lifetime of benefits.

Isn't that what we already do with foreigners and non-residents (with Canadian citizenship)?

Wasn't sure........... more like the people who get services covered when not paying taxes here. lived here for six months then come back 45 years later kind of thing.
