The younger generations don't use this ancient tech. The old folks who aren't already on here from before have no desire to join now. Opening the gates just leads to spam, scammers, and self proclaimed professionals/business owners trying to plug their products/services.

I run a private vBulletin forum and was forced to upgrade for a variety of reasons. The moment the software was updated, posts and visits took a huge nose dive.

Forums like Rennlist etc. are just full of scammers who have devised clever ways of trying to swindle honest members. It's not fun having to deal with spam bots and scammers all day.

One exception being folks who got banned for random reasons over the years. I know a guy who regularly brings up having been banned from Revscene for posting Tegra Girl lolol.
