The Dalai Lama's administration acknowledged today that it received $1.7 million a year in the 1960's from the Central Intelligence Agency, but denied reports that the Tibetan leader benefited personally from an annual subsidy of $180,000.

The money allocated for the resistance movement was spent on training volunteers and paying for guerrilla operations against the Chinese, the Tibetan government-in-exile said in a statement. It added that the subsidy earmarked for the Dalai Lama was spent on setting up offices in Geneva and New York and on international lobbying.

The Dalai Lama, 63, a revered spiritual leader both in his Himalayan homeland and in Western nations, fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against a Chinese military occupation, which began in 1950.

The decade-long covert program to support the Tibetan independence movement was part of the C.I.A.'s worldwide effort to undermine Communist governments, particularly in the Soviet Union and China.

Didn't know about this, figured some would enjoy the info.

Looks like a small 3x6 foot table
Your regular pool hall table is 4x8
Regulation is 4.5x9

Typed this without googling.

fliptuner 08-20-2012 07:47 PM

Couldn't tell you based on a pic.

Regulation pool and 9-ball tables are 4x8 and 4.5x9' (measured inside the rails), respectively.

If it has a wood top, don't waste your time. If it has a multi-piece, slate top, keep in mind the cost of disassembly, transport and reassembly, including new cloth.

murd0c 08-20-2012 08:06 PM

I have access to a slate one but I'm just dreading on moving it. Just found out it is wood hmmmm

GLOW 08-21-2012 08:33 AM

most pool halls have 4.5x9 dont they? i thought only bars had 4x8.

its hard to tell how big that table is because the cues and balls (and triangle) could also be undersized.

i used to have a 4x8 snooker table and i hated that thing lol. it did however teach me how to shoot extremely accurately.
if thats a 3x6 then thats basically a childrens toy.

murd0c 08-21-2012 10:23 AM

I can get a slate one for free in Maple ridge but I don't have a clue how to move it.

unit 08-21-2012 12:07 PM

oh, and that above table has rounded pockets. its a small snooker table and is pretty much a piece of crap if you like playing 8/9 ball.

fliptuner 08-21-2012 01:10 PM

Snooker tables have rounded pockets and L shaped/square rails vs. 9 ball tables which have angle pockets and pointed rails. fyi

murd0c, the only way to move a table is to disassemble it. If you pick up one end of a table that has a multi-piece, slate top, it will crack the wax joints, shift the leveling shims and there will be a bump or groove in the middle of the playing surface. So it's kind of good for you since you know you can pretty much transport it in your truck. Only downside, is that it's going to take some time to re/re it and you might need new felt.

Avril's career sure has taken a dive, I recall reading in the Sun her concert at Rogers Arena last year was really akward and embrassing with barely anyone showing up for it.

murd0c 08-22-2012 06:49 AM

I would still hit it lol
