You're not losing your marbles, don't worry. The regular corolla hatch has a significantly larger amount of trunk space over the GRC. At one point, it was available with a manual transmission in a NA config which was fabulous. Great shifter feel, you could rev the piss out of it and not break the speed limit. My friend who's our track day photographer had one. It was able to carry all his equipment whereas the GRC is not. I didn't actually know how slow the car is until I drove it. He always seemed to keep up with the CTRs around town / hwy (eventually). Turns out he had to floor it in 1-2-3-4 to keep up when we're barely accelerating LOL.

The FK8 CTR has quite a bit of trunk space. I'm not sure about the FL5 CTR, but the DE5 ITS definitely had it's trunk shrunk and the opening is much smaller.

Literally just saw this happen at 7th/Quebec an hour ago. Driver at the 4 way didn't notice the pedestrian crossing in front of them. Tapped the pedestrian. No one got hurt luckily.

Then watched a minivan blow through a red light a good 5 seconds after it had changed on Kingsway near Knight.

For me it was really a no brainer.

Was the WRX in contention? A base MT is $438/mo on 24mo or $500/mo on 48 mo, both tax-in with 0 down. The Sport trim is $542-584/mo under the same terms.

I know the GRC loses a lot of trunk height over the base Corolla (you can get a lot back by taking the foam out) but I think this GTI is closer to the GRC side of things. I'll try to remember to snap a picture tomorrow but it's tighter than that shot you have.

I would like to try a manual base Corolla if I can ever find one to test drive. Not breaking the speed limit very easily is a plus for me lol. At least here in Cali the GTI picks up speed on the highway very easily. In auto mode I was accidentally picking up 20+mph without noticing.

4 I dont know which shifter is worst, but I tried that wrx before and it was pretty rubbery.

5 seems like joke talking about reliability vs VWs but I honestly didn’t wanna deal with a Subaru boxer engine and its head gasket issues or RTV issues. Ea888 in the gti is pretty stout all things considered. Just it carbon builds and needs cleaning after 130,000kms

You can still get the WRX in the first 3 trims with manual... and BRZ of course... but tat's it for Subaru everything else is CVT now.

It's too bad because I was checking last night, their prices are very good for their cars... just no manuals. I'd get a new Impreza hatch or Outback or something for Calgary as a use it and abuse it car at $35k for sure but the CVT is a non-starter for me.

They used to gate the heated steering wheel into the premium package before. Plus, the bigger screen (wtf 8 inch in this day and age Toyota), nicer sound system, dual zone climate etc are still within the premium package. Yes, the rest is cosmetic.

For the GTI did you take out the cargo cover? If you're limiting to what can fit underneath the cargo cover then yes it's 1 carry on and 1 check in, but if you make use of the vertical space it can carry a lot of more due to the shape of the rear greenhouse. I have fit dishwashers (in the box), kitchen cabinets and other really boxy furniture into my GTI. I basically used mine to renovate my townhouse lmao. Corolla loses out on length - the rear cargo area is short and the GR Corolla's floor back there is so much higher you can basically fit one check in bag and that's it under the privacy cover.

The new Civic slopes the back window very severely - it's almost liftback vs hatchback. It really cuts into the space if you have boxier/taller things. I don't think you can do what BIC did and fit 8 wheels/tires.

I used it as I found it since it worked that way anyways. The little passthrough in the middle was handy when I had to grab some DIN rail. I'm mainly just surprised the floor was so high since there shouldn't be anything under it taking up space. Does it have a full size spare or something? I'm assuming you folded the seats as well? The back seat area does seem a little roomier than the Corolla but I never sat in either.

I had to do a double-take to make sure this video was for Jaguar, the automotive brand. Kinda curious to see where they're leading with this...

The GTI has a spare tire, it's the inflatable kind that kind of unfolds itself as you add air into it. The Mk6 actually had a full size spare. The Golf R does not have a spare tire IIRC. GRC has no spare either, inflator kit. Yech.

For the larger items yes I folded the seats. You get the funniest looks when you go to the dump with a GTI fully loaded in the back with a tarp covering a bathtub (in pieces), sink and a toilet.

I found the gti wasn’t roomy enough for me and the chihuahua to spend 2 days down in long beach Washington. Don’t get me wrong it’s decently sized…. For a hatchback…. But nothing compared to my RX.

The RX is insane. It can swallow 4 suit cases in the back and 3 carry ons while still seating 4 people inside.

At least with a spare you can just take it out if you really need the extra space. You can yoink the foam out of the GRC but then you still have the battery sitting there and exposed terminals to worry about. I'm still surprised I haven't seen anyone relocate it to the dge of the trunk yet.
