I love US grocery store fried chicken as well. For some reason, 90% of them are pretty good and relatively inexpensive except the grocery store in Pt Roberts got pricey (this was pre-Covid). Yah, imagine if they put a Trader Joe's there ... even gas with our lowest prices and high exchange rate, I imagine they are not doing well. And does anyone still use their postal service for buying things from the US anymore? I shifted to Blaine, just a slightly longer drive but there is so much more to do in Blaine like the row of new restaurants, Mexican taco place, Edaleen, oyster bar restaurant, etc. They are trying to make it a bit of a restaurant row there.

Edit: Also CP is usually available on ShipTime, but you only save a few dollars, not nearly enough worth it to choose CP over the other options I listed | I just booked a courier for a 46x30x15 3.68kg box to Casino Nanaimo from Richmond. CanadaPost's says the strike is over, their prices are still bs tho.
CP (3 days) no insurance + pickup = $21.36
CP (2 days) $100 insurance + pickup = $21.93
Puro (2 days) via ShipTime $100 insurance + pickup = $11.94
We usually add a $4 to $6 shipping & handling fee into the shipping charge and it still comes out cheaper than CP ($17.94 vs $21)

I was listening to Canada Post discussions - it's a service, it's not a business (well it sort of is), so you can't evaluate them as a profit model.
You can't put building a highway as a profit.. you can't measure it like that.
How is puro being so much cheaper... well. I don't know, i usually tell my customer u have to pick and choose.
why is ikea and costco hot dogs $1.50 while the hot dog stand 5.99.
Why is aliexpress cable $5 versus what you get a best buy at $15....
u can never win on these arguments.

^ having said that, you still have to strive to be efficient and 'frugal'. Even if it is a deficit, there are degrees, no? You still have to try to trim fat and try to reduce deficit. No one is saying it has to make a profit ... but how about deficit of $100M vs. $400M?

also there's an option to "wait" to resolve with seller, i don't choose that and say no or that they're not responsive.
but ya, if they reject it go through your credit card to backcharge it.

The market's a lifeline for the few locals that live there and doubt they'll close down.

Try it ! But don’t get their baked or grilled chicken. It’s terrible. Only their fried chicken and those “Jo Jo” fries are great.

I'm on gov't side. | I think I saw somewhere that union dues are $100 per month.
55k employees means $5.5M in revenue per month for the union.
I'm am guessing a union priority is save up a large fund for strike pay given that's the whole purpose of a union.

the date starts from when you make the purchase online, not when you receive it IIRC. I don't think I've ever done 'defective' though. I've only not received the item, which i guess is a open/shut case.

Agree with you 1000%, my mom was a nurse and she constantly complains about how are health care has so much waste; yet mgmt are "if u don't use it, u won't get more next yr".
@Eff-1 - good point, I didn't know they rake in $5M a month. Gues they just have to have liquid cash to pull out from their investments.

Switching gears...
Anyone here look into or actively playing around or tinkering with Raspberry Pi 5? I have an old Raspberry Pi 3 which I used for a bit back in the day, but damaged it due to a physical drop.
Looking to see if anyone here has been up to date on this stuff and how it compares to Raspberry Pi 3 and its operating system evolution. Looking to build a lightweight Linux machine to goof around with.

My in-laws have a vacation home in Point Roberts and we go down a couple of times a year to visit.
The Marketplace has seen better days, but in the summer months, it's still quite busy.
It won't go out of business because it's the only store in town. There are a lot of Canadians that own homes down there and you can't bring down everything you need for your vacation down there.

Think Covid pretty much killed PR, it’s such a risk to have a vacation home across a border, especially when it’s landlocked like PR is
I know a few people who had cabins and trailers across the line and I think all but 1 sold them after Covid and seeing how it became completely out of your control during that time

Even the Americans there, some likely left after COVID due to the experiences and border hassles of being geographically isolated like that.

Between Point Roberts and Blaine or Birch Bay ... it's a no contest if you want a quick/short drive waterfront getaway with a marina. Point Roberts is literally a dead end.
