“This is why I’m fat” post

Texx big burger in Whalley is one of the better burgers I’ve had in a while great tasting beef and a proper sloppy burger, an upgraded 5 guys imo and better fries. Doesn’t look like much as I had it delivered but not sure if I’d want to eat in :lol

With In-N-Out it’s really weird because people seem to either not like it, or are generally indifferent, or you love it. It’s probably my favourite fast food burger, 3x3 with chopped chili’s and onions

Multiple patty Smash burgers with alternating slices of American cheese that's where it's at I'd gladly play top dollar for.

Romer's was pretty bad when I went many years ago, I have not had the desire to go back.

Do you have Shake Shack there? Those are the best fast food burgers I can get here. Slightly better than 5 Guys although I prefer 5 Guys fries

For some reason I prefer takeout, as the cheese has a chance to thicken up a bit and the bun is extra squishy. It's nasty stuff but so good

bcrdukes 01-12-2025 05:43 PM

Shake Shack is not in Vancouver yet, or at least not that I know of any plans for them to open up there. They just opened up in Toronto, but I have yet to try it. I've enjoyed Shake Shack overall (including the one at TST HK!)

Re: Five Guys - My experience with their burgers has not been fantastic, and I've given them a chance several times. The problem is likely me.

@westopher - Have you been to Splitz Grill lately? Curious how they are now. It's been many years since I've been!

Why are fries so expensive now? They used to be a cheap side but that's half the price of the burger.

Was grocery shopping at Superstore this afternoon, and they bloody wanted $9 for 2 bags of McCain Superfries. And that was supposed to be a discounted deal too, because they would have charged $5.49 for a single bag.

Splitz in Vancouver is gone unfortunately. The family (OG owners of splits whistler) gave up on the restaurant business I heard and left Van.
I've heard the one in whistler (new owners) is great still after being a bit not great after it was sold, but haven't been in a long time.

It's $25 with fries or $17 without.

Tbh if they got rid of the bacon and did it with raw thinly sliced onions instead of caramelized, and used basic chuck instead of the more expensive brisket blend, they could probably get it even cheaper and still be amazing.

FYI brisket is a fair bit cheaper than chuck roll nowadays, and less than half the price of chuck flats.

RIP Splitz Grill Vancouver. Great burgers and great prices.

westopher 01-12-2025 06:22 PM

It was a true family business too. The dad and kids working the kitchen, the mom working the till. They were good people and made good food. It's a very sad sign of the family restaurant dying.

3% of the year is gone. You need to watch this. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEv_z...prNTVqZTNoNnI4

When I was in New York in the summer I went to 3 different burger places including Hamburger America. 7th street burger was the best. Never had a burger patty so hot in my life. They have multiple locations in NYC.

I'm no burger expert but I quite like the Royale with Cheese at Bells & Whistle - it's two smashed patties with melty American cheese, a secret sauce and pickles. I liken it to what a Big Mac could be if it was actually good. The cheese is pretty rich so it stands out in each bite and the pickles have a nice briny sweetness to it. It's my current favourite local burger.

animal burger at the gull in north van is still probably my favourite in the city. Fresh ground, cooked med rare-medium and always seasoned well with a good crust on the patty. TBH I don't know where else is great anymore. I always liked the pourhouse burger years ago when I went often ish, hawksworth had a great burger, but that unfortunately came with being in hawksworth and alibi room had a really good, not great burger, but the beer list that came with it bumped it up into great category.

The closest Shake Shack we have is in Kirkland, WA. There's also one at UVillage in Seattle. I love shake shack, but it must also be because I love how fake American cheese tastes. It just hits diff.

My first experience there (River District), a spider literally crawled down from the ceiling and walked all over my plate. When we told the server, she asked me "do you want to change tables?". Well fucking duh. I was surprised they didn't offer me anything as an apology (could have been as simple as a free coke or whatever). Hell, they didn't even really apologize for the incident at all now that I think about it.

68style 01-12-2025 08:01 PM

Is that really their fault / preventable though? Lol

spoon.ek9 01-12-2025 08:03 PM

To some degree no, but they could have at least said sorry and moved us right away lol. I got neither!

But anyways, I remember my friend saying that I'll LOVE their burgers and they use the BEST ingredients. After one bite, I thought to myself "this isn't anything special". I didn't really have the heart to tell her the truth.

spoon.ek9 01-12-2025 08:33 PM

isn't that a Pulp Fiction reference?

It's what they call a quarter pounder with cheese. They got the metric system over there, they wouldn't know what a quarter pounder is.

A Big Mac's a Big Mac but they call it Le Big Mac. I don't know what they call a Whopper cause I didn't go to Burger King but do you know what they put on French fries in Holland instead of ketchup? Mayonnaise! They drown them in it!

CivicBlues 01-13-2025 07:56 AM

A Quarter Pounder with cheese!?? Well I can picture the cheese...

Do they have Krusty partially gelatinated non-dairy gum based beverages?

Hondaracer 01-13-2025 08:03 AM

Yesterday out for a walk so fucking typical..

Buddy guy TFW (the driver looked fresh off the boat) didn’t know if their truck would fit under this tunnel that does under HWY 1 here:

https://i.imgur.com/3NfYJCa.jpeg

https://i.imgur.com/J2wRsXJ.jpeg

So although the height is clearly posted, they stopped 20 feet outside the tunnel with hazards on while other cars passed, the passenger then got out and guided the truck in until he could determine whether they could fit or not, and he walked half the tunnel until hopping the rail and getting back in…

Fucking clowns, if you’re driving a vehicle like this and don’t know the height/routes, you probably shouldn’t be driving such a vehicle. Not like this has already happened 30 other times..
