my youtube is weird, i didnt even know anything about "mr beast" as the no 1 youtuber till about a few months ago. That kind of content never pops up on my algorithm

Did he start his career at NCIX doing tech reviews with this Asian girl? The name is vaguely familiar as I believe it was posted on the forum before.

iirc Linus started doing NCIX reviews which turned into Linus Tech Tips, which kept going even after NCIX closed (RIP).

Like Izzy said he was gone a lot for filming which probably didn't help. They slowed down a little during the last bit of TGT but I remember during an episode of TG Clarkson mentioned they had been away for 6 weeks for one shoot. Their kids are grown up and moved out a year or so ago as well. Combine all that and their life is gonna be pretty different now than it was a couple years ago.

Not sure ... you'd have to be really into this to know the guy's history.

I remember the days when NCIX, ANITEC, ATTIC and other mom/pop computer shops were around. I honestly dont know how they made any money, the margins were so small.

Out of high school i used to work at the ANITEC shop on kingsway building computers and trying to sell people garbage. What a different life that was.

10 bucks an hour man... take home after tax was like peanuts. Saved up the peanuts to buy a Voodoo Card

Shit I visited Anitec a lot when I was in highschool. I may have crossed paths with your Sentra lol. I started going when they were at the old location on Kingsway near Earles.

I used to work at distribution and sold components to Anitec and the rest of the chinese mom / pop shop owneers.

CC and NCIX were rivals.

Linus was told to work on video / unboxing (like kids opening xmas presents) on youtube. This started back 2008 and then he just kept going and reaping the results.
I wouldn't say he 'just made it bad' suddenly.

As for Mr. Beast, i still had no idea who the guy is until my nephew said OH WE HAVE to buy his chocolate. I told him i ain't supporting a youtuber and just cause his name is on a chocolate bar.
While walking out of walmart, i see someone's kid with 3 mr. beast chocolate bar which his daddy bought.

I am still a little shocked at how rapidly the NCIX empire crumbled -- or at least that's how it seemed to the average consumer. They have only expanded to have retail locations in Toronto for... what? a year or 2? And then before I know it, they went belly up.

The brief shot early in the video showing a young Linus and Esther under the NCIX banner... My goodness they practically look like babies compared to how they are now!

And that makes me feel old... :okay:
